idk if its just me or whatever but i feel uncomfortable when white people mock or belittle things associated with non-christian, non-western spirituality and health like astrology, numerology, the burning of incense, scent therapy, acupuncture, herbal remedies, etc. like i really don’t give a shit if you don’t believe in these things it doesn’t matter to me at all but insinuating that people are stupid for deriving meaning from these things is just cruel and hurtful and ignores how important these things are to those of us whose cultural history and traditions are inextricably tied. these things all started pre-colonisation in the americas, africa, and asia, and colonising white christians tried (and were quite successful in many cases) to wipe these indigenous beliefs out only to later co-op them as alternative “pagan” spirituality to market as commodities and make trendy/appealing to white people, while continuing to take away our freedom to participate in these outlets of spirituality.
things like astrology, praying to ancestors, numerology, herbal remedies, and spiritual healing have been in my punjabi family for generations. i don’t care if you think all of that is stupid or false or not scientifically true, it matters to us as a people and as individuals and helps us connect not only with our history but our own thoughts and feelings and bodies in a practical, accessible way that isn’t connected to or relying on colonial philosphies. your white ass saying we’re stupid and delusional for being dumb enough to fall for this hokey magic bullshit is racist, insensitive, and unwarranted.

“Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, S.D. ― Dominique Amiotte, 17, always makes sure to keep a few extra tampons in her locker. It’s not much, but it’s enough to encourage at least some of her struggling friends to come to school when they have their periods.
About half of Amiotte’s girlfriends can’t afford tampons or sanitary pads. As a result, when they menstruate, they’ll skip school for as long as a week. This can lead them to fall behind in class, contributing to the already abysmal graduation rates on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. There are no official records on how many of the young women at the reservation’s 13 schools have felt the consequences of this issue, but individuals we spoke to say it’s an inescapable part of everyday life.
“It makes me angry,” Amiotte told HuffPost unflinchingly while seated in an empty classroom at the Crazy Horse School, where there are 70 girls enrolled in middle or high school classes.”

So.... I fuck. Quite regularly actually.
My friend just didn’t ask me whether I'm afraid of getting chlamydia before I fucked a brown man.
