whew I'm finally done...

this was supposed to be what Hoyo teased us with but didn't deliver on - Bennett meeting the Pyro Archon

(originally I wanted to touch on the Mare Jivari & Abyss and Mavuika offering him a place to stay too but I didn't see the point in rehasing it)

instead I wanted to highlight Bennett's struggle, the confused cycle he's found himself in - the comic & Mavuika has no answer because he needs to find it himself*

I even thought about the "what does freedom really mean when demanded of you" line when making this because it FITS

Mavuika was really hard to write so I was really careful with her actions here so I hope I did her okayish at the very least

I tried to find a connection between her and Bennett even if their situations weren't the same - she has her own regrets & he reminded her of them

*the conclusion (I know it's wonky I'm not 100% happy with the comic) is basically him being his usual stubborn self where he still doesn't have an answer just knows he'll make it happen because he refuses to let down the people he loves

tried to do a soft re-design of Bennett's skin

differences; the colors are much more vibrant now, more BLUE splashes here & there, the added "nightsoul" effect would be purely cosmetic (since Hoyo is a coward) when burst is active & only ON his past scars, his bag is looser to allow for more movement during the run animation

the yellow+orange cloth around his waist & the dangling belts are also much longer now for the same reason he's got similar patterns on his shirt like his dad & bandana got a feather(?) similar to his mom's keep in mind this is just a ROUGH sketch for fun & ik it could be better

Have you ever considered the ship Gaming/Bennett?

I don't know if you're much of a shipper, but the moment Gaming came out I was mushing them together: Gaming's sheer positivity and tenacious gumption made it such an easy idea to say that he'd call Bennett his Good Luck Charm 🧡 That he'd always be sure to tell him it wasn't his fault when misfortune struck and - since he's always so prepared - I feel like when that "curse" would finally rear its head, he'd soothe it back down. Not to mention, when Bennett was sad, Manchai would fly over and nuzzle into him, making everything feel a little warmer 🥰

Idk.. it's just an idea. But your artwork is so warm and beautiful, it made me think of them together again 😅

and yes I love to ship characters even if I have no time/inspiration for them and when I'm not into a ship for one reason or another I can still see the potential/appreciate it (few exceptions ofc)...though people won't know unless I ACTUALLY draw something for it shocking I know but there are just too many ships 😅

and Gaming is literally my fave from Liyue - how can you not love him?? so it did cross my mind but I never really dug too deep into it since many people jumped to either ship him with Chongyun or Freminet (cuties)

since the more popular ships for Gaming (or at least from what I've seen) are leaning towards the good old firexice/redxblue/introvertxextrovert I can see why pairing him with Bennett can seem bland upon first glance - but to be honest? they'd be a wholesome couple

until I get my hands on them to bring out the angst

I feel like they'd instantly warm up to each other too; Gaming is so open and treats people like friends right off the bat & both of them have some baggage to bond over, both are stubbornly following their passions despite their conditions, I could see Bennett being a fan of Wushou Dancing and encouraging Gaming to pursue it who in turn would encourage Bennett to think of himself as a better adventurer when he's badmouthing himself

good luck charm? no, no that's done for nearly every Bennett ship...BUT did you know lion dances are supposed to bring good luck? Gaming is the "luck bringer" therefore; private Wushou Dances 👀

I wish we knew more about Man Chai's personality but 100% he'd be a cuddler (due to Gaming's idle) and since Bennett gives off similar vibes he'd definitely be there for him - even sensing his bad mood before anyone else since Bennett often hides behind his positivity which can fool people, so Man Chai could also alert Gaming ahead of time? meaning before Bennett can go off to sulk on his own ofc

okay I PROMISE this is the last thing I'll add; Gaming finding a second home at the guild with Bennett's dads - they don't nag him, heck might even ruffle his hair to praise him for his guts for chasing his dream? which is a complete 180 to how his own dad is, and you think they'd let him go hungry? sure Gaming would take out Bennett to eat in Liyue - but Bennett's dads would not only not let him leave on an empty stomach, they'd give him more food to take home
