With Mumbo gone, it was time for them to head back to Scar’s ship and prepare for a voyage back home—to Bedeyl.

Grian considered the past day to be quite eventful. He and Scar headed to Nessilx with the intention of finding spare parts for Grian’s (overpriced) ship, only to bump into a variety of people. First was Bdubs, the guy Scar scammed of a ton of credits back at Bedeyl who unfortunately was from Nessilx. Despite his initial hostility, he eventually calmed down and led them through the forests and to the clearing. His sudden compliance didn’t come as much of a shock to Grian, who found out back at Lydax that he had quite a knack for being persuasive.

i just wanna say that i absolutely adore solar event. the way it's written is really lovely and the way everything is described makes it very easy to get a good visual. i really feel like i get a good sense of everything that's happening. and everything is so.. i don't know how to describe it other than pretty

i normally don't like art in the middle of a fic, a personal preference i like better a link in the notes, but i was surprised at how well it work for this! and of course the art itself is incredible. i love the line art, the shapes, the colors, really just all around amazing

anyway, just wanted to say that everything about this fic is incredible, and i look forward to what comes next! (and of course no rush, take all the time you need)

I just started reading your fic and I really enjoyed it!! I’m on the second chapter and I really like how made Grian new wings and how interesting this space world is! I also really like the art and art style!! I just wanted to pop in and say you guys are doing an amazing job! I’m gonna go read the second chapter now!

“Hello! I’m Mumbo.”

The tall lanky creature stood before Grian, bug eyes petrifying through him with a sort of kind look to those brown pupils. Mumbo leaned backward to pull the lenses off of his eyes, revealing the normal sized orbs beneath with a slim face and a button nose, almost like Scar’s. Tufts of white and red fur lined the man’s sideburns, blending into the black hair on his head. Antenna waves around curiously, examining the air. Grian thought he’d looked similar to what Alerion described as a vampire, with a white streak running through the man’s strands.

So the silliness ensued.

Grian smiled the moment he shook hands with Mumbo, their conversation flowed so naturally it was rather comical how well they’d bonded.

“Hello, I’m Grian.”

As the month passed, Grian slowly grew accustomed to his prosthetic.

After crash landing into Bedeyl—more specifically Scar’s house—and barely getting out of the wreckage in one piece, the Lydian assumed that he’d be flightless forever. Avians like him needed at least four wings to fly, and the crash left him with three. Scar was kind enough to let him stay and nurse him back to health, but each day was a constant reminder that he was now bound to the ground beneath him. He would no longer feel the exhilarating sensation of the cool breeze against his face as he dipped in the skies and flew above the clouds.

It was a painful reality to accept, especially for an avian like him, but Grian was ready to take on his new life as a flightless bird.

That was, until Scar walked into the bedroom after a long day of work and a fresh shower—and a protesthic. A new wing. His fourth wing.

Grian would hate to admit it out loud, but he did cry in Scar’s arms. He cried some more after he looked at himself in the mirror, because there he was. No longer a flightless bird. No longer a three-winged avian that was cursed to trek the lands instead of soaring through the air, where he belonged.

No amount of words or actions would ever be enough to describe Grian’s gratitude towards Scar.

Something had gone wrong. Truth be told, he had absolutely no clue what—One minute he had successfully done a hyper space run, jumping from the atmosphere of Lydax into the dusty stratosphere of the planet covered in holes. While it was not the best to fly around inside of, the outside was vast and spacious—Grian just wasn’t aware of the dust storms from the mountains and how harsh they could be. They must’ve clogged his thrusters and piled in the main OMS engine, and as a result, auto-locked on Grian.

“Shoot!” He yelled, the feeling of exasperation catching up to him faster than he was prepared for. He felt it in the middle of his chest first, before the pressure expanded rapidly, and the panic began to muster.

“Okay. Okay okay okay, this is fine. Emergency brake, emergency brake,” He muttered to himself as he forced his body forward. The cloud of dust was there for a mere few seconds before it wasn’t, revealing a very distant object that gleamed in the distance. Grian couldn’t make it out, nor did he have any interest to do so in the moment. He’d probably miss it anyways, with his level of elevation—so he chooses to focus on finding the emergency brake.

That is before the ship begins to tip downwards with the sudden pull of the planet’s gravitational field. Fuck.
