#SuperMarioBros2 Developed by Nintendo Published by Nintendo Released in #1988 Rating 9 out of 10 I'm sure by now we all that that this isn't the actual Super Mario Bros 2. This is a really just Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic with copy and paste Mario characters. I'm sure none of us knew this growing up and even if we did I think it wouldn't matter, this game is great, even if it was all just a dream in Mario's mind. It's completely different from the original, this could be good and bad because you don't want the same game but you want a similar experience. I'm happy that Nintendo of Japan thought that the real Super Mario Bros 2 would be too hard for their western gamers. If any of you have ever play the real part 2 it's very difficult and in my opinion just an extension. If anything Luigi was the winner here. Both sequels gave him is own traits with his high jump and less ground friction. When I first played this game I was hooked and excited to play with Toad and Princess Peach, they all had their own traits and you had to use all of then to progress through the levels. The colors were vibrant, music was catchy, the level designs awesome and the gameplay was great. This one of my favorite NES games until part 3 was released but that's a story for tomorrow. #Nintendo #NES #VideoGames #Games #Gamer #SuperMarioBros #Gaming #GamersLife #Retro #Classic #RetroGames #ClassicGames #InstaGamer #80s #Handsome_Rob_7 #TCOAG #GOGP #Handsome_Rob_7_The_NES_Years https://www.instagram.com/p/BnWg_UsFZuQ/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=agvzs0idvfmq

#SuperMarioBros is probably one of the most influential games in video game history. Without #Mario the video game industry would have collapsed. America was very cautious after the fall of #Atari in the early 80’s, with lawsuits for sexually explicit games and games that were being released at a rapid pace with no approval or backing from Atari. Let’s not forget that developers also weren’t getting their due’s. When Nintendo was marking their system overseas to America they had a real true game plan. They called it the #NintendoEntertainmentSystem, they also released the classic black box games with actual game graphics on the cover instead of amazing artist drawings of the games. Last but certainly not least was the Nintendo seal of approval in the form of a gold stamp on the bottom right of the box. Mario was in some of the black box games, his first appearance in Wrecking Crew to Donkey Kong to Mario Bros and then the ultimate video game franchise Super Mario Bros. Mario single handedly saved the video game industry in America. I'm covering all three Super Mario Bros games as they are next in alphabetical order, is it ironic or is it fate? #Nintendo #NES #VideoGames #Games #Gamer #Gaming #GamersLife #Retro #Classic #RetroGames #ClassicGames #InstaGamer #80s #90s #Handsome_Rob_7 #TCOAG #GOGP #Handsome_Rob_7_The_NES_Years https://www.instagram.com/p/BnRe2XflM2y/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=l7p3ahkaoaej

#SuperMarioBros Developed by Nintendo Published by Nintendo Released in #1985 Rating 4 out of 10 #Mario is definitely the most famous video game character of all time. What could honestly be said about him that wasn't said in his 37 year history. Super Mario Bros is probably one of the most influential games in history as well. It also takes one very tough son of a bitch to die on the cover of their own game, that speaks volumes about the man. Mario was a carpenter, plumber, demolition, boxing ref, a doctor, tennis umpire, professional golfer, space pilot, ice hockey player, etc. The man is famous and though his history as been added too or changed over time, there's no doubt that he can do anything. When I first played Super Mario Bros I liked it but I also was 4 or 5 at the time so this was 30 plus years ago. My father had a stack of NES games in his collection, so I had several titles to choose from but I hardly picked Super Mario Bros. I played Mega Man, Zelda, Metroid, Punch-Out, Batman, TMNT, Blades of Steel, Contra, Life Force, Friday the 13th, really anything but Super Mario Bros. It wasn't the difficulty because I think the difficulty increase is fair. The music was good, sound effects were there as well. Great level designs and cool power ups but something was missing, what that was I don't know. The game just didn't resonate with me. All these years later I still don't play it and that's cool, you can hate on me but each his own. However Super Mario Bros 2... Yeah that was an all time favorite but that's a post for tomorrow. #Nintendo #NES #VideoGames #Games #Gamer #Gaming #GamersLife #Retro #Classic #RetroGames #ClassicGames #InstaGamer #80s #Handsome_Rob_7 #TCOAG #GOGP #Handsome_Rob_7_The_NES_Years https://www.instagram.com/p/BnUDKK0lOjm/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=18hnbwuol5lwd

#SuperDodgeBall Developed by #Technos Published by #CSGImagesoft Released in #1989 Rating 8 out of 10 the first spin-off sports title in the Kunio-kun series which includes Renegade, River City Ransom, Crash 'n' the Boys: Street Challenge and Nintendo World Cup. These games were "Americanized" to appeal to the Western gamers. The story was changed as well to better reflect a sports title. When I think of sports games on the NES I think of Blades of Steel, Mike Tyson's Punch-Out, Pro Wrestling, Temco Bowl and last but certainly not least Super Dodge Ball. The gameplay is great, the action is funny and challenging and playing with two players can ruin friendships. I loved this game and enjoyed playing it with my friends. We had countless tournaments at my house over the years. The teams in the game consist of, Team USA, Team All-Pro (USA), England, India, China, Kenya, Iceland, Japan, Russia and Team Shadow. There are the typical funny stereotypes represented for each country, each with their pros and cons. There are three game modes for a high replay value as well. I'd like to share a true and funny story. When I was in the 5th grade back in 94', we had a kid in our class named Douglas Wang. Doug was a fucking beast of a 5th grader and was by far the biggest kid in the school. He was 5'8" and pretty stocky. Well the entire 5th grade class faced him in gym in dodgeball. He was killing kids left and right, finally it was me vs him. He threw the ball with such velocity that it gave me a welt on my face, as Doug went to see if I was dead, the ball fell from sky and bounced on his back making me the winner. Doug if your out there somewhere, good game! #Nintendo #NES #VideoGames #Games #Gamer #Gaming #GamersLife #Retro #Classic #RetroGames #ClassicGames #InstaGamer #90s #Handsome_Rob_7 #TCOAG #GOGP #Handsome_Rob_7_The_NES_Years https://www.instagram.com/p/BnHLgeNlk6E/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=19xg76rcsj89

#SuperC Developed by #Konami Published by Konami Released in #1990 Rating 8 out of 10 A year after the battle with the Red Falcon Organization, Bill and Lance are sent on another mission. This time, the alien forces have taken over an allied military base, possessing most of its troops. They must not only fight against their former comrades-in-arms, but also a new mutated form of the same alien creatures they fought during their previous mission. The famous #KonamiCode isn't present in this game but that's ok this game isn't as hard as the original but don't be fooled it's still challenging. #Contra was one of the first games I've ever beaten alone and with my father. We also enjoyed the sequel together. Little is changed in terms of gameplay and that's ok, who doesn't crave for more Contra?! Instead of the even levels getting a "3-D" style level this game opts for an overhead view level. The boss battles and designs are just as good as the original as well. Playing with a friend makes the game even more fun. I feel like this game gets overlooked or doesn't get the recognition it deserves. It's a great sequel and to me another Konami classic on the NES. #Nintendo #NES #VideoGames #Games #Gamer #Gaming #GamersLife #Retro #Classic #RetroGames #ClassicGames #InstaGamer #90s #Handsome_Rob_7 #TCOAG #GOGP #Handsome_Rob_7_The_NES_Years https://www.instagram.com/p/BnEoNSUF51g/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=271ofk0rx2w2

#StreetFighter2010TheFinalFight Developed by #Capcom Published by Capcom Released in #1990 Taking place in the "distant future" of 2010, Street Fighter icon Ken is now a hardened bionically enhanced space explorer who sets off on a journey to avenge the death of his friend Troy. Even as a kid the story made no sense, how did Ken become a space cop 25 years after #StreetFighter I knew it was stupid and it was a horrible idea from Capcom. However, the game is fantastic and a true underrated gem on the NES. The game is balls to the wall difficult and you will need to master all of the controls and deal with a time limit as well. This was yet another game on the NES that I couldn't beat until my adulthood. Even with unlimited continues the game can cause loss of hair because you will be pulling it out or even result in controller smashing. Despite the difficulties the game has a lot going for it including gameplay, graphics, music and controls. I found out way later in life that the English localization changed the main character's identity and backstory from Kevin to Ken to imply that he is the same Ken from the original Street Fighter. Knowing this information really makes the game better because who in their right mind would choose Ken over #Ryu. Overall I'll rate the game an 8 out of 10. #Nintendo #NES #VideoGames #Games #Gamer #Gaming #GamersLife #Retro #Classic #RetroGames #ClassicGames #InstaGamer #90s #Handsome_Rob_7 #TCOAG #GOGP #Handsome_Rob_7_The_NES_Years https://www.instagram.com/p/BnCCFbalGkn/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1dm2y9f3vneep

#StarTropics Developed by Nintendo Published by Nintendo Released in #1991 In StarTropics you play as teenager Mike Jones ("Who Mike Jones" for my older fans who like hip hop) who goes to visit his uncle after he received his letter. Upon arrival Mike notices his uncle is missing and discovers an alien named Zoda is responsible and sets to destroy earth as well. This was a pretty cool and slightly challenging game when I was younger. I really enjoyed the story and thought it was cool that you play as a young teenager much like Mikey from The Goonies. The gameplay is very similar to Zelda II: The Adventure of Link and that's not a bad thing. The levels are all nicely done and colorful. The graphics and gameplay are great with great controls and music. One of the coolest things wasn't even in the game but something that came with it. A letter written by your uncle. It's the actual letter that Mike read when he set off for the island. If you put the letter in the water a special code is revealed and its actually required to continue the game. I thought that was one of the coolest things that Nintendo has done. Even my father was pretty impressed. The code is 747 if you are playing on an emulator. If you have the game used and didn't know then there you go. If you have the game from Wii's Virtual Store then it's included in the manual with a short animation of the letter being dipped in the water. The game is great and I highly recommend it. Overall I'll rate it an 8 out of 10. #Nintendo #NES #VideoGames #Games #Gamer #Gaming #GamersLife #Retro #Classic #RetroGames #ClassicGames #InstaGamer #90s #Handsome_Rob_7 #TCOAG #GOGP #Handsome_Rob_7_The_NES_Years https://www.instagram.com/p/Bm_YUAflgVy/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=18xmngnz3bpya

The villain #PaganMin was beyond excellent and a true highlight of the game. Much of the gameplay is virtually the same from #FarCry3 and that's ok. #StarWars Developed by #BeamSoftware Published by #JVC Released in #1991 A long time ago in a galaxy far far away... Star Wars on the NES is loosely based off of episode IV #ANewHope When my father showed me Star Wars for the first time I was awestruck. I thought it was great and my two favorite characters were #HanSolo and #DarthVader It was the story of a young man on a journey and I really love those movies. For some reason I really didn't feel connected to Luke Skywalker, maybe it was because I thought he was a bit of wimp... I don't know. I thought Han Solo was just awesome, he was sneaky, cool and a bad ass in his own right. Darth Vader was the ultimate villain and kind of scary, especially when I was younger. My father clearly liked Star Wars over my mother's Star Trek. The game I thought was really good but very challenging. The controls are tight but it does have its frustrating moments. There's a few different styles of gameplay as well; platforming, first person flying scenes and overhead flying level. You can play as Luke, Solo and even Princess Leia. If you can use force to overcome the high difficulty and sometimes cheap deaths the game is actually good. Overall I'll rate the game a 6 out of 10. #Nintendo #NES #VideoGames #Games #Gamer #Gaming #GamersLife #Retro #Classic #RetroGames #ClassicGames #InstaGamer #90s #Handsome_Rob_7 #TCOAG #Handsome_Rob_7_The_NES_Years https://www.instagram.com/p/Bmyd5fTFjmD/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1f5amgt1l7kl

#StarTrekTheNextGeneration Developed by #ImagineeringInc Published by #AbsoluteEntertainment Released in #1993 Stardate 72103.4 In my previous post I talked about my love for #StarTrek and The Next Generation was no different. I thought #JeanLucPicard was a great Captain and played very well by Patrick Stewart. My mom didn't really care for this show maybe because there wasn't any "beef cakes" for my mom on the show. I played the Next Generation at my friends Adam's house before and after we watched the "Trio". The "Trio" consisted the TV shows of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: The Warrior Princess. It was the 90's, we were teenagers and it was absolutely epic! Adam loved the game, I didn't. I thought it was boring as it only had mini-games and no real story. You don't even play as any of the characters, but yourself. You are an up and coming #Starfleet cadet and Captain Picard is basically your trainer. You start as a Ensign and try to work your way up to Captain. I think this game is boring and annoying. It does have that TNG appeal but I wish it was better. Graphics aside the gameplay is just not there. It's a randomly generated mini-game and that's it. Without the Star Trek license the game probably wouldn't even get a second look. It's ashame because there are cool aspects it's just not in the gameplay, so what's the point. #Nintendo #NES #VideoGames #Games #Gamer #Gaming #GamersLife #Retro #Classic #RetroGames #ClassicGames #InstaGamer #90s #Handsome_Rob_7 #TCOAG #Handsome_Rob_7_The_NES_Years https://www.instagram.com/p/Bmv7q03Fa3i/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=y1ij1ixkc1h0

#StarTrek25thAnniversary Developed by #Interplay Published by #UltraGames Released in #1992 Stardate 72100.7 Ironically enough it wasn't my father who got me into #StarTrek, it was mother. My mother had a huge crush on #CaptainKirk and #WilliamShatner in general. My father would usually nap when my mom watched Star Trek. We used to have a snack and drink chocolate milk together and try to figure out the episodes. I had a crush on some of the women on the show, human or otherwise much like Captain Kirk himself. The 25th Anniversary game is actually quite good, it plays very much like the show. It's kind of a point and click/action adventure game. You play as Captain James T Kirk and he can bring two companions with him including #Spock and other crew members. Each member has their own abilities and you have to use them to complete the mission. There is even some space battles with the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701. I've watched all 7 Star Trek shows and all 13 movies. I even loved the rebooted series and hoping for more. I think the franchise is great and had some really amazing stories and some that fell flat just like some of their videos games. This one however is enjoyable. Overall I'll rate the game a 7 out of 10. One day at #ComicConNYC I got to meet William Shatner, I was very excited and when I told my mom she was so jealous. I was going to tell him how much I loved his work and list his other projects besides Star Trek. Then when I got face to face I froze. He asked me my name and I couldn't speak. My girlfriend had to introduce me, she said I was nervous and he said clearly. They spoke for a bit and I just stood there like a freaking idiot. Finally when it was it was time to go I just said "live long and prosper." #Nintendo #NES #VideoGames #Games #Gamer #Gaming #GamersLife #Retro #Classic #RetroGames #ClassicGames #InstaGamer #90s #Handsome_Rob_7 #TCOAG #Handsome_Rob_7_The_NES_Years https://www.instagram.com/p/BmtV2hrl6dL/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=132v3fvtm6wcq

#Spiderman #SpidermanTheReturnOfTheSinsterSix #SinisterSix Developed by #BitsSoftware Published by #LJN Released in #1992 Now right off the rip you see the infamous LJN logo and you can only assume the worst but... Nah who am I kidding the game is a piece of shit! The game is loosely based off the #MarvelComics arc #TheAmazingSpiderMan issues 334 - 339 which I thought was a good story with great 90's art. The game though is dreadful and the gameplay is clunky with difficult controls and inconsistent in difficulty. The hit detection is the one of the biggest issues, there are no power ups or health that you can gain. The enemy placement is ridiculous and webslinging is a chore rather than fun. I was so excited when I got this game because I was a huge Spider-Man fan. Spider-Man was actually my number two next to my all-time favorite Batman. Spider-Man had one of the best rogues gallery in comic book history yet again just behind Batman's. I had so many Spider-Man comics it was ridiculous, I had a comic box just dedicated to him. When I put the game on I was disappointed from the beginning, it didn't look very good and music was annoying. I still played the hell out of it because it was my only Spider-Man game at the time. There are shining moments but not enough to shine a spot light on it. Overall I'll rate the game a 3 out of 10. #Nintendo #NES #VideoGames #Games #Gamer #Gaming #GamersLife #Retro #Classic #RetroGames #ClassicGames #InstaGamer #90s #Handsome_Rob_7 #TCOAG #Handsome_Rob_7_The_NES_Years https://www.instagram.com/p/BmjKpxeFNSU/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=48w14iyv34ry

#Solstice Developed by #SoftwareCreation Published by #CSGImagesoft Released in #1990 Much like #SolomonsKey my post from yesterday, Solstice is great, it's fun, it's addictive and highly difficult. It's an unforgiving puzzle game and my father loved these types of games. Perhaps he liked getting frustrated or just liked a difficult challenge, I'll never know. The story is five pages long in the NES manual of the game but the gist of the game is that you are a wizard named Shadax and you witnessed the kidnapping of princess Eleanor by Morbius the Malevolent. You then discover by doing research that the staff of Demnos is hidden in Morbius' fortress Kâstleröck where he would least expect it. Every one hundred years on the winter solstice the six hidden invisible pieces of the staff are revealed. You must now collect the pieces and rebuild the staff, defeat Morbius and rescue the princess Eleanor. The gameplay takes some getting used to because of the isometric view. There is a total of 252 rooms with various puzzles to figure out. There are limited lives and continues. The continues act more like check points instead of starting at the room you died in. Once all continues are used it's back to the start of the game. There are no saves or passwords. Definitely in the top twenty hardest games on the NES. My father has beat this game many times, first time he completed it he got a 100% by going in all rooms and getting all items. Then he would try to beat the game with the lowest percentage possible. He was a glutton for making a difficult game more difficult. I did beat this game but I didn't care about my percentage, I'm just happy I beat it. It also is notable for one of the best opening songs on the NES created by #TimFollin Overall I'll rate the game a 7 out of 10. #Nintendo #NES #VideoGames #Games #Gamer #Gaming #GamersLife #Retro #Classic #RetroGames #ClassicGames #90s #Handsome_Rob_7 #TCOAG #Handsome_Rob_7_The_NES_Years https://www.instagram.com/p/BmghLDVlHtR/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1dtlymt10yr9a

#SolomonsKey Developed by #Temco Published by Temco Released in #1987 Solomon's Key is a yet another chapter in my book. Solomon's Key was probably one of my father's favorite games and one of the few games that I "beat" and he didn't. He came close many times but could never achieve the perfect GDV (Game Deviation Value) of 80. That score is based off various things including, completing rooms in a timely manner, collecting faeries, finding all secret rooms, all secret items and not dying. There are three different endings in the game, all depending on your GDV score. This is by far top ten hardest games on the NES, probably top five to be honest. There's 50 rooms total, including optional yet needed rooms and you only get 3 lives and no continues to complete the game. You could however get additional lives by collecting a certain number of faeries but still, good luck. I watched my father put in endless amount of hours in this game. When I wanted to see if I could get the GDV he never achieved, it took a lot of patience, practice and research. It took me on and off two and a half years to do this and I only did it once and will never, ever try again. It really was one of my most memorable accomplishments on the NES. This is a very special game to me and holds a spot in my heart. Funny thing is my father completed this game several times, so to me he beat it and kept on beating it. The only thing he wanted was his perfect 80 GDV, so I'm happy I earned it for him and for me. Overall I'll rate the game a 7 out of 10, even though its insanely difficult and highly frustrating. #Nintendo #NES #VideoGames #Games #Gamer #Gaming #GamersLife #Retro #Classic #RetroGames #ClassicGames #80s #Handsome_Rob_7 #TCOAG #Handsome_Rob_7_The_NES_Years https://www.instagram.com/p/BmeI0psl21a/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=164a5h48q11k9

#Slalom Developed by #Rare Published by Nintendo Released in #1987 An original #BlackBox release title Slalom holds a few notable firsts; it's the first Rare game for a console, the first NES game developed outside of Japan and finally the first western developer to strike a deal with Nintendo of America. Now I need to discuss the most obvious thing about Slalom, the skier's #Ass When people think of the greatest asses in video games they mention the usual suspects; #LaraCroft #Samus Aren #MorriganAensland #Cammy and maybe #TyrisFlare. I would definitely add the unknown skier' ass to the mix, whether male or female there's no denying #DatAss Now the gameplay is very simple but difficult to master yet fun and addictive. You simply ski down one of three mountains representing the three difficulties the game gives you. You must avoid all types of hazards and while you try to finish the race within the time allotted. You can get bonus points by doing tricks in the air but if you fail you will fall and lose time. Even though the game is only one player you can still take turns and try to beat your friends score. This is what me and my friends did. Though the game doesn't really hold up after 32 years it's still fun and very advanced for it's time. Overall I'll rate the game a 5 out of 10. #Nintendo #NES #VideoGames #Games #Gamer #Gaming #GamersLife #Retro #Classic #RetroGames #ClassicGames #80s #Handsome_Rob_7 #TCOAG #Handsome_Rob_7_The_NES_Years

☁️ #SundayMorning 🎮 #Writing a #Book #Sega #Genesis I'm beginning to edit my second book on my experience with the Sega Genesis. #NHL94 is one of the 30 chapters featured in the book. It's not just a simple review book but rather the growing pains of becoming a teenager and the loss of my father in 1992. The fist book which is still in the editing process is based on the stories of me and father playing the #NES together. He was collector of video games before it was cool or even a thing. Hopefully I'll have the NES book out by the end of the year.
