I am exceptionally lucky in that my parents never hit me, grounded me, confiscated my things, banned me from my hobbies or threatened any of these actions to make me behave as a kid. as an adult it has made me realise how very very long a road most people have to traverse before they can take a statement like 'no rule that must be enforced by threat is legitimate' seriously.

#it is so far outside my comprehension for parents to actually do all the things I always say would be best for your child #this is how it's done #treat your child like a human being with feelings and intelligence; they're smarter than people give them credit for #they just don't *know* things #and *teach* them #that's your job as a parent is to teach them #tell them why something isn't allowed or why the thing they did was bad and they're so much less likely to do it again when they understand #if you scream or punish without explanation they may do it again but this time they'll keep it secret from you #I'm jealous but also just the fact there are kids being raised genuinely treated as full people and not property or an obstacle #that you have to break down until it behaves #makes me happy #I hope that becomes more widespread

"these researchers published a paper on something that literally any of us could have told you 🙄" ok well my supervisors wont let me write something in my thesis unless I can back it up with a citation so maybe it's a good thing that they're amplifying your voice to the scientific community in a way that prevents people from writing off your experiences as annecdotal evidence

I took my little brother (autistic, mostly non verbal) out and he was using his voice keyboard to tell me something, and this little boy (maybe 4 or 5?) heard him and asked me "Is he a robot??" I tried to explain to him that no, he isn't a robot, he just communicates differently, but my darling brother was in the background max volume "I am robot I am robot I am robot I am robot"
