Perhaps Gale was a fool once to believe they would settle into a quiet life after Emmeline reclaimed her home. They met in chaos, and chaos continued to follow them over the next few months.

He set to work on creating the teleportation circle in the master bedroom while the redecoration process began. More than once, Gale overheard Emmeline reassure Lilia and the staff that the runes were not cultist in nature but rather a way to travel instantaneously to Waterdeep. Their excitement at the prospect quelled their fears, though no one dared step upon the arcane etchings when they took root in the floor. Upon completion of the circle, he traveled home alone, their first time apart for more than a scant few hours.

Sea salt air flooded his senses, sharply contrasting with the earthy scent of Hueron he had gotten used to. After a month away, his heart sang to be surrounded once more with his books and full wardrobe. Still, he missed Emmeline immediately, comforted only by the fact that many of his tasks in the City of Splendors had to do with her. Not more than a few minutes into collecting her clothing, the familiar sound of flapping wings announced Tara’s arrival, followed closely by her nosing her way into his intensions and demanding a full report of his travels. Anything he told her would likely be reported immediately to his mother, but Gale threw discretion to the wind, grateful to have her approval in the task he looked forward to the most.

In the corner of the room, the piano tempted him to provide a suitable ambiance. Recalling one of his favorite pieces, Gale willed it to play, accompanying their tranquil evening. Far from a jig, the melody contrasted playful, almost questioning staccato notes with swelling responses, a rallentando building emotion that surrounded them appropriately in that moment. As he stared at the keys, he felt the weight of the last few days, the not so literal dance they had been doing around one another.

Tearing his eyes away to take another sip, Gale beheld her staring at him. The question awaiting his response.
