I have this kinda stupid idea for my Shifty AU that Shawn Pines went. To High school.

To Gravity Falls High, specifically.

I imagine that at around fourteen or fifteen (or whatever, Shapeshifters have weird ages) Shifty realizes that, as great as the Mystery Shack is, they are never going to truly socialize, and be good at being a PERSON until they are more accustomed to actual people.

Stan only..technically counts as a person, and their caretaker is sort of a shut in when it comes to live outside the Mystery Shack. Shifty is a teen (technically) and they want to explore.

So for weeks, they create the ultimate presentation for Why Shifty Should Go To School. They gather resources about what stuff they HAVE learned, (mainly math and engineering to help with the portal, although they do a fair bit of reading) and what they want to learn that Stan can't teach (remember, this would be...late 90s? So no online classes or GOOGLE) and they want to go out into the population.

Shifty uses every single bit of knowledge about compelling or shmooze they've learned from Stan. Every instance where they can use "puppy dog eyes", they prepare for it. Shifty is ready to cry on command. They are prepped in guilt tripping. This will be like going into the ultimate battle.

They have a fold out tri board of information as part of their pitch. They've planned this moment down to nothing, and finally, FINALLY they are ready.

They catch Stan right at the perfect moment. He's making dinner, his back is turned, so Shifty sets up the board quietly (though not SILENTLY, silence tips Stan off about things, whether thats mischief happening or his hearing aid going out again) and takes a deep breath.

"Stan?" Shifty asks, and they wait to hear the grunt of affirmation that he's listening. Once they do, they square their shoulders. They've trained for this. They are ready.

"I would like to enroll in high-school."

They wait a beat. This is crucial to the plan. Let the idea sink in for a moment before giving reasons, so the customer listener can form quick decisions, which will later be torn down. One beat.

In that one beat, without turning around, Stan stirs the pot of pasta. "Sure kid," he says. "I've got the transcripts and test scores in a box downstairs. There's some paperwork to fill out, and a placement test you gotta take, but we could probably get you in when school starts in August."

Shifty goes completely still.

After a moment of no response, Stan turns around to look at them. Its at that moment he actually sees the tri fold presentation board (complete with relevant handouts and connecting strings) and the look of utter shock on Shawn's face.

"Ah." Stan says, a little sheepish. "You were expecting me to say no."

Shifty can't really hide the crestfallen look on their face. "Yeah."

"And you had prepared an entire pitch?"

Shifty sniffs. "It was really good too. I have color coded notes."

There's another long beat.

"Okay," Stan says, and he turns back around, back to the stove. "Ask me again, I'll say no this time, I wanna hear the pitch."

"You dont have to-"

"Ask me again or I'll really say no this time."

"Okay okay!"

Shifty gets back into position. They square their shoulders again. "Stan, I would like to enroll in high-school."

There beat before Stan whips around, and points at them with the spoon. "What?! Are you crazy?! You're a shapeshifter, you can't go to school!"

Stan's objections would be far more convincing if he wasn't smiling, but Shawn lets that slide.

Omg imagine if like, Stan went to a drummer audition for a small band he's never heard of before for shits and giggles, but turns out he actually has a knack for drums and they let him in. It could be the found family trope or the "we're all doing it for money and we hate eachother" trope. But either way, the band became surprisingly popular. And at some point they even make it on TV.

So imagine Ford's surprise when he's casually changing channels on his TV and he comes across a band, and Stan rocking the drums in said bad.

stanley pines looks like the kinda man who could fuck up a drum kit in a shitty punk band idk what it is but i feel it in my bones

You know Stanley has a lot of IDs, can lie easily and is good blending into the public. Thats how he made it so far...

So, really, was it so surprising he got hired as a private investigator?

It started with Rico, he saw his potential and asked him to do some snooping around. Then a richer client, pale and sharp fanged, though his wife of 134 years was cheating on him, asked Stanley too look into it and so his name began to spread from big names who wanted to keep their secrets, find other people's secrets as well as the... weird.

"Gravity Falls huh..." Stan holds his new request in hand, reading while driving to the destination of his new destination.

(Or: private investigator Stanley gets hired by Ford or to investigate Ford :3 )

Idk how to explain it, but Pacifica is that type of mean girl who will make sure to use your right name and pronouns. Bc hey, if you're gonna insult someone then do it right, you jerk. She's also that type of girl who will defend you if someone misgenders you on purpose. Like, yes, she fucking hates you, but wow, transphobia? That person must be a total loser to fall that low and she won't hesitate on calling them out on that. That being said, pre-Northwest Mansion episode where someone misgenders Dipper on purpose (how did they find that out???) and Pacifica just so happened to be there and saw what was going on and she insults the absolute Hell out of that person to the point where they run away crying. And afterwards Pacifica is all "ugh, don't get used to it, loser.🙄" While Dipper is absolutely flushed red in the face (huh, must be the heat) bc no one's ever stood up for him like that, apart from Mabel.
