odysseus absolutely does present a threat to penelope if he perceives her as at all unfaithful, and i feel the unfairness of this, and i think people tend to undersell how much tension at least potentially exists between odysseus and penelope. but i'm also like. his reaction, all speculation aside, his actual reaction in the odyssey to her flirting with the suitors is delight, because he immediately ascertains that she is running a con. sorry that they're so in-sync in spite of the forces that try to drive a wedge between them, including their own misgiving hearts. sorry that they invented homophrosyne ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

INFORMATION ABOUT QUEER/ADULT CONTENT BEING DELISTED

Hey, I'm sure you've heard by now that several online retailers have blanket delisted queer/adult content. Information seems sporadic, so I want to create a masterpost of what happened, why it matters, and what you can do about it.

WHAT HAPPENED

You've probably heard that Steam and Itch.io have removed all of their adult/queer content from listings. Itch has even gone so far as to prevent creators from being able to get their payouts.

This is not Steam/Itch's fault. Mastercard and Visa have pressured them to remove their adult content. Visa and Mastercard collectively hold over 90% of the market share in payment processing. Unfortunately, if they cut you off, you pretty much lose over 90% of your gross income, which is a death sentence for basically any company.

This is also not just localized to Steam and Itch. Several anime/manga retailers have also been affected, and more companies are likely to follow. I would not be surprised if Patreon cracked down again soon, so if you have adult/queer content on there, I suggest you prepare accordingly.

The reason for this happening is not a response to the current US political climate, or these payment processors randomly deciding to force their puritanical views. It is a concerted effort by a group called Collective Shout, an anti-porn group masquerading as a feminist liberation org. (Look up the meaning of the word SWERF.)

Collective Shout has, allegedly, sent over 1,000 letters to Visa and Mastercard urging them to take action against certain digital retailers selling adult content. Which, thankfully gives us an avenue to respond. More on that in the third section.

WHY THIS MATTERS

For some of you, I don't need to explain why you should care. For others, let me explain to you why this is a massive cocern for everyone, not just adult content creators.

First of all, we've already seen perfectly sfw queer content catching strays from this. You should already be well aware that adult content and queer content are often conflated, and the two are pretty inextricably linked to each other. If you try to ban one, you will, inevitably, end up banning the other as well.

Secondly, this sets a precedent for "concerned citizens" to be able to pressure payment processors into removing whatever content they don't like from the internet. Even if you don't partake in adult content. Even if you're not queer. Even if this doesn't currently affect you or anyone you know right now, it will. They managed to do this with only 1,000 letters. If they get away with it, it'll only be the beginning.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

Remember when I said they sent 1,000 letters to make this happen? I bet we can get more.

I wrote a form letter for Mastercard and for Visa. Fill in your name. Print them. Sign them. Mail them out. The addresses for the respective companies are at the top. It shouldn't cost much. Even international postage shouldn't be prohibitively expensive for most people.

Some people are sharing phone numbers and emails. That's fine, but I prefer a physical footprint. You can't see 1,000 phone calls. 1,000 emails don't take up physical volume. If you get 1,000 letters about something, you can see how much people care about it. That means something in this day and age.

IF YOU LIVE IN THE US there is a bill being introduced right now that stops payment processors from being able to control what people can and cannot purchase. Call your representatives. Right now. Even if you don't think they'll support it. Here's a script I wrote. And trust me when I say it'll help. I used to talk to politicians for a living. I know what I'm talking about.

SHARE THIS POST. Reblog it. Reblog it multiple times a day. Send it to everyone you know. Seriously. Everyone. Even if they're not on Tumblr. Get the word out. The most successful advertising is word of mouth. So use your voice and make sure people hear it. We've beaten this shit in the past and we'll do it again, but we still need to put in the work.

Oh my goodness yes! This is exactly it! When my family moved across country I was having really tough time (because going from the culture and more importantly the flavors of Southern Arizona to Tiny Nowheresville Connecticut is ROUGH) and I found this little ramen shop in a tiny outdoor strip mall that made the best and spiciest tonkatsu. I loved it so much, I would come in every paycheck and get a bowl and a spicy salmon avacado roll. It only took a short while but the young lady who was always running the counter started just inputting my order as I walked up to the front door. Eventually I moved out and let the place kind fade to the back of my mind.

I moved back in with my parents a few years ago to save money and help around the house, and you can imagine how horrified I was when I hopped in the car to go get some ramen after a long day only to find my lovely little ramen shop had gone out of business and been replaced by an IHOP. 😭

I refuse to go there now just on principle.

i see posts here about how people are so mortified when they are acknowledged as being a regular customer somewhere that they never return. cowards. the employees at taco bell treat me like a celebrity. like royalty. i am their strange little pet customer who gets traded along as staff comes and goes. they know my car before i even speak in the drive-thru speaker. today i was 2 hours late and she ran over and squealed that she "thought i'd left them!" and that she "made my order with extra love!" and you what, she did

I feel like I gotta document this. No idea why, but just in case something happens. I'm typing this down.

I had a weird dream last night. *trigger warning for potentially dangerous situations, mental health, and talks of death and spirits*

Now the important thing to note is I hadn't watched or even thought about Kallmekris or Celinaspookyboo in over a week at this point. I have also never claimed to be psychic or an empath or clairvoyant or anything of the like. I will ever so occasionally feel like there's something else near me and if I focus I can sometimes see things I my minds eye. But that's it, its vibes and nothing more usually. And even that could just be my mind playing tricks on me.

Now, in this dream, I was watching Celina on a roof or just some open-top area of an old building. Kris was somewhere nearby, but I couldn't see her just yet. They were on a ghost hunt and Celina was talking to someone but couldn't hear what was actually being said. All I could hear was like this sort of whisper encouraging Celina to get closer to the edge and, you know. That's when Kris showed up and grabbed her arm, looking scared. The dream then shifted really quickly to them being on either a basement or ground floor, in kind of a small room, there was a lot of red lighting and it felt really cramped. I don't know why. This time, however, it was a lot harder to tell who was talking cause I was seeing things from their p.o.v . And this bit is harder to recall anyways because I forced myself awake in the middle of it. What I do remember is someone, either Kris or Celina, was sitting on a couch trying to talk to the spirits. And there were suddenly a lot of spirits in the room who were ANGRY. Like, really angry, like all I could tell was the spirits wanted to hurt whoever was trying to talk to them. It got worse and worse until I managed to force myself awake. Even after I woke up, I felt like I was kinda floaty and not all there for a few minutes. Eventually, I had enough wherewithal to walk myself through some grounding techniques.

I'm hoping this was just a nightmere, and nothing will ever actually come of it. But just in case, I thought it best to put this out there. If anything, y'all are welcome to use this as fanfic prompt and maybe that's all it'll be, but just in case.
