Ruthless Vows, Rebecca Ross. Book 2 of the Divine Rivals series. 4.8 out of 5 stars. (for every single one*) Would recommend for: the hopeless romantics, peptic writing, separated lovers, angst (makes the fluff all the much sweeter), historical fiction + fantasy vibes (not actually based on true events i’m pretty sure-just vibes).

not an wise lady who sits in new york coffee shops with fashionable dark academia outfits and a typewriter* who reviews books as a job. unfortunate, i know but i am doing this for fun-so there’s that! i try to be as rational and respectful as possible! but these are my opinions i’m sharing, so my conclusions may be a tad biased! no spoilers (i know i’m amazing).

• Again, the writing style in unique in my opinion.

• I won’t dwell on this too much because I already did in the Divine Rivals review.

• The story between Enva and Dacre is so interesting, but I feel like there could have been a bit more oomph (emotion, heartbreak? I don’t know how to describe it)to their story.

• Obviously there’s the Kitt and Iris situation, fair warning it gets crazy with the plot twists!

• A good kind of crazy but still…

• I won’t reveal too much because I don’t want to spoil (lie-I would like to spoil very much).

• Also you know how authors do that thing where they kind of re-explain events or like the story’s “stories?”

• Rebecca didn’t do that much in this book, just a note.

• I loved all the side couples introduced in this book!

• Forest’s character arc was a joyful experience in this book.

• The story didn’t end with a perfect happy ending (Hunger Games style kind of), still showed the scars of the war and everything although I wish it was dwelled upon more in the epilogue even if we did get romantic scenes.

• There were a lot of emotional scenes throughout the book, it’s a very good continuation/ending if you ask me considering that there are so many authors that don’t give the same oomph(?) to their second books.

• And to conclude, the chapters were pretty short so that was great!

*for every single one: trying not to give every single book a 5 star rating is hard.

The Chalice of the Gods, Rick Riordan. Book 6 (?) Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. 4.8 out of 5 stars. Would recommend for: do i even have to say anything- for uncle rick lovers? pjo fans? interested in getting into mythology inspired books.

not a professional reviewer, i can be biased because i’m a pjo fan. i try to be as neutral as possible-but i’m talking about MY opinions-so i don’t think that’s entirely possible. no spoilers (no need to thank me).

• Okay, starting off with saying that I’d recommend reading the first five books before picking this one up.

• Now for the writing style because apparently I like doing that first.

• Incredibly sassy and relatable, first person pov from Percy Jackson like always!

• I love the way he “thinks”-it’s incredibly accurate to what a teenager would probably think in the context of the Pjo world.

• Side note: I love how the characters have actual “lives” outside the events of the books, like Percy and his skate boarding and rock (?) bands.

• I swear someone made a post about that before. but I unfortunately can’t remember who wrote it (very disappointed in myself because it was an interesting post from what I remember).

• The romance was peak again in my opinion because Percabeth is my otp.

• I really liked the friendship scenes between Grover and Percy because I feel like their friendship is very overlooked at times.

• But like during those scenes it was like Percy was reading my thoughts (iykyk).

• And Percy giving Grover romantic advice was so cute and hilarious because he’s Percy but also makes sense because he’s Percy.

• Annabeth, the queen. She was amazing as ever.

• One thing I’d like to say though is that I have no idea how to imagine the trio after the show came out- because they’re so different (I love both don’t get me wrong my mind is just confused).

• Chapters are pretty short!

Divine Rivals, Rebecca Ross. Book 1 out of the series. 4.8 out of 5 stars. (this is me trying*) Would recommend for: quick but interesting read, fantasy + writer/journalism mash up, rivals to lovers romance, not exactly slow-slow burn (?).

no spoilers (you’re welcome). and i’m definitely not a professional book reviewer, just a highschool girl with a love for novels. so beware!

• To start off: this was a great book!!

• One of the main things that I loved was the writing style.

• It’s very poetic, it tends to remind of poetry more than novel writing.

• Not saying that words rhyme with each other left, right, and center.

• They don’t but they give of poetic vibes if you know what I mean.

• The romance was cute, Iris and Kitt (yes I do call him by his last name) are so precious!!

• It’s not very slow burn though, even if it kind of seems that way.

• Rivals to lovers is my second favorite trope!

• I hate when it gets mixed with enemies to lovers (I dislike enemies to lovers-don’t come after me-it’s just my preference the exception being juardan).

• Loved the writing style’s of both of the characters, although I • remember them vaguely because of all the plot twists (i’ll get to those later).

• Can someone tell the vibes of Iris and Kitt’s writing?

• World building was pretty interesting, I loved the way she explains it-how Roman “writes” them to Iris. It’s very touching.

• More is revealed in the second book than the first-doesn’t necessarily make the plot confusing though.

• Funnily enough I found Roman very relatable even though we’re barely alike (can’t state the reason why because spoiler!)

• Okay, now drumroll please….dundundun…!

• The plot twists have to mention those at least as a warning because holy shyt-they’re are A LOT(mentally)!

• Not as many as the second book but still!

• Overall, the book was great ( I know because Ibhad to set it down for emotional breaks-the good, heartbreaking kind not the “Ughhh I hate this” kind).

• Chapters are pretty short but there are many (yay to me but to others I’m not sure).

• This one is a bit slower than the second in my opinion but it happens in fantasy books I think!

*this is me trying: not to give every good book i read a five out of five stars.

P.S. i actually love writing footnotes and adding “p.s.���s that’s what i’ll do from now on unless it’s unnecessary.

jason buys you flowers every two weeks or so from the store and he'd arrange them himself for you and make it look pretty. he does it like it's his job to make them perfect.

and he'd have the audacity to be all bashful like, "i arranged them myself. it's not perfect but i hope you like it" 👉🏻👈🏻 while it looks like a damn masterpiece

listen.... he cooks. and it's lowkey gourmet since he learned to cook for you. like he'd bring you breakfast in bed and everything.

you both cook dinner sometimes, and a lot of those times were spent dancing to the music in the background while cooking— which did lead to a certain mishap a couple times (the food burning/small fire erupting because you were too focused on each other, but you both agreed that none of that ever happened)

the sidewalk rule. he never, ever, ever lets you take the side closer to the road, he has to be the one there.

he's the one who looks around while crossing the road.

if you wear glasses, you'd switch glasses with him playfully out of nowhere. (he kisses your nose because "you're so cute." when you're wearing his glasses.)

this man is CHIVALROUS. i think we all know that already. he opens door for you (yes even car doors), pulls out chairs for you, lets you take the only empty seat in a crowded bus, everything.

writes you love letters and little notes on a post-it just because.

kisses your hands. a lot. kisses everywhere but your hands, forehead, temples are his fav spots ehehe im giggling just thinking about it.

would call you sweetheart, darling, my love, like an old man.

speaking of old man, this man loves listening to old love songs, like he LOVES it. something like 'it's been a long, long time' would be heard playing every morning on your record player. and he'd hum along to them.

hear me out,,, he'd randomly takes you flying sometimes. (but if you're scared of heights he wouldn't pressure you) but if you aren't, he will carry you in his arms and fly away.

bonus: you both sings along to 'a whole new world' when you're up in the clouds.

he knows your style, so sometimes when he's out and sees an item of clothing that he thinks you might like on a window display, he'd get it for you.

"saw this earlier on my way home and i thought you'd like it. you don't have to wear it if you don't like it though.."

the two of you has a lot of shared playlists. you'd play them on car rides and would just have the time of your lives singing along.

whenever you'd have a fight, you'd always find a way to resolve it by communicating. and he never raised his voice at you.

if it's a bad one, you'd give each other some space to cool off, then you'd try to resolve it again the next day.

back to the fluff... he can draw, right?? yes. and he sketches your face, most of the times when you're busy or occupied and he'd sit on a chair across from you and just sketch. he has piles and piles of sketchbook filled with random stuff, but mostly you. you're his muse.

he's so so supportive of you. and he's never shied away to show you and tell you how proud he is of you.

you both have matching lockscreens— jason's of you, and yours of jason.

you'd both each get the same book, read it, annotate it, and once you're done, you switch the books and read it again from each other's point of view.

whenever you'd see a stray cat, you both will stop walking and pet the cat and give it as much pets and attention as possible. and will be sad when you have to leave it after.

he's not big on pda and neither are you, so you'd just try to keep it simple in public— i.e. holding hands, locking pinkies, his hand on the small of your back as you walked, his fingers running up and down your spine (🦋🦋🦋🦋), and keep most of it in private.

he gets jealous of your celebrity crushes or fictional crushes. he's subtle about it, but it's obvious enough that you'd tease him sometimes.

you'd go to a café on the weekends to get breakfast.

he braids your hair. THIS MAN BRAIDS HAIR. idc. idc. it's canon in my head.

you'd pamper him sometimes, and he let's you because who is he to deny his love of anything?

at first he was a slight relunctant (because come on, that man was raised with wolves) but then he'd give in and lets you put on your fluffy headband on him to keep his hair away and put on your facemasks.

you and jason each bought a journal to put random entries of your daily life, some doodles and sketches— sometimes you'd stick some polaroids on the pages too. and once they're full you'd keep it in a box for your future children to see.
