people with tooth decay aren't bad people. they aren't lazy either. neither are they unclean or irresponsible. tooth decay doesn't make you a bad person. you don't deserve mockery, judgement, or tooth pain for having any. the only thing people with tooth decay deserve is healthcare.

"Thousands of trees have been planted by volunteers as part of a new temperate rainforest in south Devon.
More than 2,500 native trees have been planted so far this winter at Devon Wildlife Trust's Bowden Pillars site near Totnes.
The charity said as well as storing carbon, temperate rainforests supported "a super-abundance" of wildlife.
The trust is transforming 30 hectares (75 acres) of sheep-grazed fields into a landscape with 70% tree cover and open glades and wildflower-rich meadows.
The charity said more than a 100 local people planted species including oak, rowan, alder, hazel, birch, willow and holly.
Nick Biggs, an 83-year-old volunteer, said he got involved with the project after being inspired by his apprenticeship with the Forestry Commission in 1958.
"That introduced me to the environment," he said.
"I was really keen to carry on with it and it's good for your fitness just to get out and do something."
The trust said in decades to come the new trees would form a temperate rainforest with high rainfall and humidity.
Helen Aldis from Moor Trees, which supplied some of the saplings, said many had been gathered locally.
She said: "The oak that's going in today is from acorns that we've gathered on Dartmoor that have come back to our tree nursery.
"Our volunteers process those, pop them into the root trainers and then they come out a year or two later to become the woodlands of the future."
'Incredibly rare habitat'
The trust said the damp woodlands used to cover large parts of Britain, but today amount to just 1% of its land area.
Project leader Claire Inglis said: "It's an incredibly rare habitat and we've lost a great deal of it over the years.
"Across the UK there is around 13% woodland cover but in Devon it's actually 11%, so it's lower than the national average."
The trust said the forests supported a variety of birds such as pied flycatchers, woodcock and redstarts, while the damp conditions meant mosses, liverworts, lichens, ferns and fungi thrived on the trees and forest floor.
Ms Inglis added: "The mix of young trees in amongst grass pastures and hedges, along with our commitment not to use pesticides and artificial fertilisers, will be better for local moths, butterflies and bees, along with farmland birds such as yellowhammers and barn owls."
The trust said 7,000 trees would be planted in the first winter with more planned in the future."

My favourite question to ask (mostly suburban) people when commenting about XYZ thing that they claim makes the city unsafe is "Is it making you unsafe or is it making you uncomfortable?"
Is the safe injection site making you unsafe or does see it make you uncomfortable?
Is the encampment making you unsafe or does seeing unhoused people make you uncomfortable?
Is the person asking for change on the corner making you unsafe or are they making you uncomfortable?
Is the person talking to themself at the bus stop making you unsafe or are they making you uncomfortable?
Is the queer couple kissing making you unsafe or are they making you uncomfortable.
People existing in a way that you don't approve of isn't unsafe. People need to get better at understanding the difference between those two feelings because when you feel uncomfortable and claim you feel unsafe you often make the people making you uncomfortable actually unsafe.
Calling the cops on the person talking to themself may well result in them being harmed. Pitching a fit about safe injection sites and petitioning your local government to close them will result in people dying.
Being uncomfortable isn't a bad thing. Often times you simply need to learn to live with it or you need to direct your discomfort toward the system problems that lead to your discomfort.

Martina McBride didn't win Country Music Association Song of the Year for a song about how burning your house down with your abusive husband still inside it is good, noble, and an allegory for the American Revolution for people to act like the genre belongs to bootlicking fucks

btw while people continue to fight the system don't forget about Undue Medical Debt (formerly RIP Medical Debt), a charity that buys and forgives medical debt. on average a donation of $10 will forgive $1,000 of medical debt.

Doctor, suggesting a replacement because it looks like insurance won’t cover seeing them “I referred many patients to XYZ and never heard from them again.”
Me, stunned “I don’t think that’s the endorsement you think it is. You know how many awful fairy tales have the line ‘and they were never heard from again’ in them, right?”
Doctor, trying not to lose Professional Voice and failing “Ha hahaha *cough* I didn’t mean it like that. You have such a great sense of humor! Ha ha ha ha.”
Me, patiently “Did you ever see or hear from any of these people after referring them? As opposed to other places? A “Thank You” or a request for files or need for a consult or asking you to fill in while the new one is on vacation or anything at all?”
Doctor “No. Wait, let me think. No.”
Me “Is that normal?”
Doctor “No.”
Me “Can you see my concern?”
Doctor, sounding quiet “Yes, I’m sure they’re fine, but now that you asked, I’ll check my records for other care providers.”
Me “Fairy tales are cautionary tales. I’m concerned for the patients you referred to this other Doctor. Their chances seem grim.”
Doctor, not laughing “I understand.”
Me “If you can’t find anyone you’ve referred, you might want to check nearby ditches.”
Doctor makes choking noise “I want to laugh at that, but you’ve got me worried.”
Me “Yeah, well.”
(Silence)
Doctor “I’m going to check on a few people I referred to them.”
Me “Yep.”
— two weeks later —
Doctor “I won’t be referring anyone to that provider again.”

No citizens of any country are somwhow inherently bad or evil because of their government. Full stop. That includes Russia citizens, Israeli citizens, Chinese citizens, Iranian citizens, North Korean citizens, etc.
Everyone in this world is just living their lives, each with their own complex needs and desires and interests and emotions. They all have hobbies and friends and families and favorite foods. They all have their own motivations and varying political opinions and views on their governments. They all weigh the risks of standing out or speaking up and they all make their own decisions about that.
They all fear the same in times of danger. They all feel grief and pain and terror the same. They all love and hate and bleed the same.
They are people. They are no different from anyone else, they are not monsters or caricatures or nameless bodies in videos. Complexity and humanity are not exclusive to your country, to people like you.

I’ve seen a few posts pointing out the “work so that you can relax” fallacy, like oh if you work really hard then in the future you will be able to relax when in fact you’re already relaxing now, and there’s like two or three layers of wrong going on there with the first being standard ant and the grasshopper fable where a student who relaxes right up to the exam is typically going to fail and repeat the subject, thus actually doing more work than someone who passes first time, just like being unemployed is often less fun than having a job given the fact that people still need to eat.
the second layer is like even if you’ve arranged matters so that you work as little possible and still survive, you would still be reluctant to endorse that for everybody, as you benefit from their work! it might take a shit ton of effort to become a good doctor, but all of their patients and society as a whole benefits from that effort, not just the doctor themselves; hard work can be a pro-social move when you’re doing something good.
third layer is to say okay sure we need people to do difficult jobs like growing food and curing cancer or whatever but still there’s exploitation built into the system, we should share the spoils more equitably and blah blah yes that’s true also, and we could quibble over why cardiologists get better remuneration than strawberry pickers (and investment bankers over cardiologists!) but the fact remains that once we’ve figured out the One True Arrangement of society that gives everyone their fair share… we still haven’t cured cancer or done lots of other things that require hard work, there’s still a reason why someone might want to work hard, if only for the selfish desire to see solutions devised in their own lifetime, which remains finite.
this isn’t an attempt to guilt trip anyone who would rather laze about on the beach come what may, but not everyone working is trapped in some positional hell trying to keep up with the rat race, even if it’s a valid thing to watch out for.
