An international student from Champs Le Sims, Chloe is embarking on her first semester at the University of Britechester as a drama major.

While driving home, Adam Volkov reflected on the previous night's events. Just as he was about to leave the precinct, he received an email informing him that a detective from San Myshuno would be joining him to assist in investigating a case he'd been working on for the past few months. The case began with the discovery of a prominent tech entrepreneur, Daniel Chen, found dead in his apartment in Brindleton Bay. The initial appearance suggested a straightforward case of a robbery gone wrong, but something didn't feel right and Adam continued to investigate. Evidence at the crime scene included a series of heavily encrypted emails and documents hinting at a major corporate espionage plot involving something named, 'Nightshade'. Furthermore, Chen's business partner, who claimed to have vital information about the situation had gone into hiding and was last seen in San Myshuno. He met the visiting detective by chance in the lobby and the woman introduced herself as Mia Zhao. The pair ended up at a coffee shop where they talked about themselves and the investigation and as Adam prepared to excuse himself, he received an urgent call requesting his presence at the community college in Sable Square. He reluctantly arranged a taxi for Nadia and, along with Detective Zhao, hurried to the scene, where they encountered a horrific crime scene involving a woman's mutilated body.

Nadia, initially intent on staying unnoticed, found herself thrust into the spotlight when her English teacher caught her gaze and insisted she introduce herself to the class. Once Nadia forced the bare minimum, she quickly sat down, hoping to fade back into obscurity. Her return to her seat was met with playful teasing from Serena Edwards, the girl behind her, who lightened the moment with quip. Serena then introduced Nadia to Connor, the boy sitting beside her. With every classroom she entered, a quick scan would usually find either Serena’s friendly smile or Connor’s reassuring nod. During lunch, Nadia was welcomed into Serena and Connor's wider circle of friends that included Lilith Pleasant and Alex Kimura. In between bites and conversation, the group occasionally turned the focus to her to ask about her interests, previous school, and her thoughts on whatever they were discussing at the time. As the day drew to a close, Nadia and her friends lingered, gathered in a casual huddle, chatting and laughing together. During the conversation, Lilith, excited about a video they had mentioned earlier, promised to send it to Nadia via Social Bunny. Sheepishly, Nadia admitted that she didn't have any social media accounts. Back where she was from, she explained, she wasn't really allowed to have them. This revelation was met with a mix of surprise and disbelief from the group, particularly from Serena, who was evidently the most active on social media. Without missing a beat, Serena, ever the initiator and problem-solver, promptly took out her phone and began creating a Social Bunny account for Nadia. The rest of the group gathered around, offering username suggestion. By the time Nadia arrived home, she had earned four followers.

The next morning, Nadia is gently roused from her sleep by the smell of pancakes. She follows the scent to the kitchen where she finds her father, still in his uniform, standing in front of the stove with a spatula in hand. It doesn't look like he's gotten any sleep. He looks over his shoulder to smile at her, they exchange pleasantries and engage in light conversation over breakfast. Nadia sits quietly in the passenger seat as her father drives her to school. The car is filled with a comfortable silence, broken only by the sound of a morning radio show animatedly discussing a viral video that's been making rounds on the internet. As they pull up to the school, her father finally speaks. “Have a good day at school." He leans in for a hug, which turns out to be somewhat awkward but despite the slight discomfort, there’s underlying affection. Nadia offers him a smile, acknowledging the effort behind the gesture. She steps out and the car pulls away, her nerves palpable as she takes in the sight of her new school.

Nadia's father, knowing he would be late from work, thoughtfully arranged a taxi to transport her from the airport to his home. Nadia, who had no preconceived notions about the appearance of his house, was surprised to discover it was a charming, cape-style dwelling. As she stepped inside, she was unexpectedly and enthusiastically greeted by a dog with a nametag reading "Flynn." With the Blue Heeler by her side, Nadia spent the rest of her evening unpacking and decorating her room.

Wanting to seek refuge from the heat, Mariana, Nawwaf and Devon gathered at a table in the mess hall. Nawwaf and Devon struck up a conversation and made efforts to include Mariana, who initially showed little interest in joining the conversation due to her initial dislike for both of them. Nawwaf attempted to encourage her to participate by goading her into responding to his lighthearted teasing. Recognizing her reluctance, he extended an invitation to watch a movie with him later that evening. During the movie, Mariana and Nawwaf found themselves deeply engrossed in conversation. The time spent with him culminated in the development of a crush. Later, Mariana's night was disrupted by a startling nightmare involving aliens. In an attempt to settle her nerves, she wandered into the mess hall and found solace in preparing a late night meal.

Adrianna spent her time in the mess hall passively observing the other campers until boredom drove her to search for a spot with cell service. As she wandered over toward the vending machines, she gained a bar of service and noticed Rafael, who seemed upset that the machine took his dollar and gave nothing in return. He turned to notice Adrianna and motioned to her phone, surprised that she was able to find a signal at all. Adrianna showed him a few videos on her feed and the pair carried their conversation outside. Despite their pleasant banter, Adrianna developed the sentiment that Rafael was a bit pretentious as they watched Sims of the Dead. Adrianna struggled to fall asleep, tempted by the allure of her roommates who appeared particularly enticing to her after not having eaten for the past eight hours. She resisted the urge and instead chose to sneak out to the infirmary where she was relieved to find a few plasma packs.

The group hiked through the forest, with Nick offering occasional commentary on the various bugs and birds they happened across. Upon reaching the campsite, Nick sat them around the firepit and proposed a question, 'What three items would you bring with you if you were stranded on a desert island?' Responses ranged from practical to humorous and kept the group talking long enough for Nick to find his clipboard with the assigned room arrangements. Adrianna, Devon, Anne and Mariana were allocated in cabin one; Carter, Nawwaf, Rafael, and Noah were placed in cabin two; and Casey was lucky enough to have the last cabin to themselves. A few hours after everyone settled in, they were now free to explore the campsite.

The nine participants gradually arrived at the designated trailhead located near a lake, as directed in their welcome packets. Some engaged in casual conversation, while others observed their fellow campers with a more evaluative gaze. Their initial interaction came to a halt when a man emerged from seemingly out of nowhere and confidently introduced himself as Nick Callahan, their camp counselor. He provided a standard overview of the camp, detailing its objectives and what the participants could expect during their stay. He also shared a bit about himself, revealing that he is a retired police officer from the Oasis Springs police department, an avid outdoorsman, a father of two, and had a passion for working with troubled youth due to having faced similar challenges when he was a teenager. When he paused for questions, the group responded with silence and blank stares, prompting him to announce the beginning of their journey with a brief hike to the campsite, a revelation that was met with mixed reactions from the group.
