REVIEW: Kitani, Brunei’s first zombie series
Tumblr media
poster used with permission from Syafi Halim, director and founder of New Wave Film.
Alright enough with the content from Netflix for now. Let me talk about a recent Bruneian made short series released on the 29th October, on the Progresif Media website and App. In my personal point of view, these past recent years, our local Bruneians who are involve in the creative and art scene are trying their best to expand and getting recognition in the country by showcasing their talents and skills through an end product and currently the creative industry in Brunei is slowly rising, in which the film industry is one of them.
As you all are aware by now, I love to watch movies and series that I am interested in. With the rise of Bruneian movies and series content that has been released for now, I am really happy and proud that the quality content of some these releases are really worth watching for both locally and internationally. In this post, I will be sharing by thoughts on Kitani, Brunei’s first ever zombie series directed by Syafi Halim of New Wave Films.
SYNOPSIS
Just a quick self synopsis about the series, basically the story takes place on a fictional post-apocalyptic setting where zombies exists to a viral outbreak which transforms humans into deadly creatures called “Jangkits”. The story of this series starts 8 years after the viral outbreak, focusing on the siblings Nazurah and Ilyas, trying to survive not just from the “Jangkits” but from other humans who survived as well, but they are an unlawful group of aggressive opportunists, known a  as “The Cure”. With Ilyas being just a 10 year old, unexperienced kid, it is up to Nazurah to take care of him while trying to survive from “The Cure” in the day and the “Jangkits” at night.
PROs and CONS
As usual I will explain my thoughts on the series by pointing the good and bad aspect of it. First will be the good side, I would like to point out that they did an excellent job on the make-up department for the zombies because personally in how I see it, the zombies looked legit! It does not looked fake and even if it was, it does not look to obvious. The extras who play the part of zombies did an excellent job acting as one so that is one of them. Then for the music of the opening credit, I don’t know who made it but yeah great job I love the music used in every opening credit of the show! It has that like a Walking Dead or Last of Us’s eerie vibe which is important so the audience can get a feel before watching each episode accompanied with the opening credit’s visuals of a b-roll of a damaged room, dried dead leaves and so on. But most important highlight of the good aspect of the series is that the casts did an amazing acting performance, especially Nazurah, she is my personal favourite where she and her colleague’s acting did not feel “fake” but realistic and convincing.
Now moving on to the Cons aspect of the show. Honestly the bad side of the series does not really affect my overall enjoyment of the show but just something I noticed a “mistake” they made. I noticed that the clothing that some of the casts wear in parts of the episode are clean, in which if it was a real post-apocalyptic setting, their clothing could have been a bit dirtied or a bit torn-off something like that. Then I more Cons side of the show is that it lacks establishing shot. Showing the landscape environment is also important to get the feel of the zombie-apocalytic setting and I noticed that in the series, most shots either mid close-ups or location choice are a bit limited. Personally I do understand why they made it like this since the fact that this is not a high-budget production hence their resources is limited. Although even with the strict resources they had, I still think they managed to deliver the story and setting very well because I pretty much binged watch the whole series in one sitting lol.
VERDICT
So yeah overall, Kitani has a minor flaw but with a low budget production, they managed to deliver a great quality content with amazing acting performance from the cast, convincing zombie make-up and amazing music production for the opening credits. Speaking of music I can not believe they brought back a classic viral malay song in here in which I will not spoil for those who have not watched yet heheh. I am giving this series my personal rating of 8/10.
Those of you who have not watch this yet, you can only watch it on either Progresif Media website or mobile app and pay a subscription. It only has 6 episodes so it is easy to binge watch in one sitting or just one day. For those who have seen the series, what are your thoughts? Do share them in the comments below!
This might be my last blog post for now as I need to focus on other personal commitments but I might continue again if I ever feel like posting another review. So for now, I will see ya guys time! Cheers! :D

A recommended must watch for League players! (Minor-spoilers)
SYNOPSIS
In the game, the lore and character’s story are based on regions. There are a lot of them and this Netflix series for now only covers on the region of Piltover and Zaun. Just a quick information for the none league players, these two regions differ in terms of the nation’s welfare but they are placed in the same are. Piltover is the where the upper middle class people live in a modern society, where they are ruled following the politics of the Councils of Academy. On the other hand, Zaun is the opposite, it is an underground city located beneath Piltover where the people in poverty live together in a shanty-ish town environment, under the protection of the Lanes, the powerhouse group protecting the city from dangers or threats from Piltover. The characters involved are the younger versions from the current roster of League of Legends which are Vi, Jinx (here she is known as Powder), Jayce, Viktor and Heimerdinger. There’s also Caitlyn and Ekko but here they don’t contribute much in the story. As usual I will try not to post spoilers but there will be some section will have minor ones as I need to explain the character’s backstory. So here are my Pros and Cons of the series.
PROS AND CONS
Now let me say this early and tell you guys that, personally for me there are nothing bad about the series I want to point out because I honestly ENJOYED the episodes so far.
Story wise basically there are 2 plot and backstories being shown here which focuses on Vi and Powder’s Arc and Jayce’s Arc. Both arcs have a different agenda and motive but the events occurred are somehow relates with one another. For instance, the first episode is when Vi, Powder and her gang sneak into a Piltover’s room in a  building in which coincidentally is Jayce’s room. Vi and her gang tried to steal whatever is in that room but when Jayce tried to enter, they panicked and locked the door. Vi and her gang tried to run but an explosion happened when Powder not realizing that when she stole a  mysterious blue gem, one of them dropped and created an explosion. As a result, Vi, Powder and her gang tried to run from the enforcers while Jayce has to suffer of his room damaged AND getting arrested as well because apparently he was holding illegal technologies. From these two events, the series has been focusing on Vi and Powder’s survival from the Piltover’s Authority while Jayce needs to convince the Council that what he is researching can give benefits to the nation, which is using Arcane magic, the blue gem that Powder stoled, is also feared due to its dangerous capability. I enjoyed the story as it was pretty much carried by the character's performance as well as the animation and soundtrack.
Character wise, the main characters were the best. Young Vi, is a strong, dependent and tough girl who knows how to fight and take care of her sister Powder, who is the opposite of Vi, where she is innocent but eagers to learn how to survive and be tough like Vi and wants to be helpful her group. To compensate her lack of fighting skill she tries to invent weapons like bombs that explodes nails. They had the best sister relationship going on but not until at some point of the episode when Powder tries to prove she can help, it did not end up well, causing Vi to get really mad at Powder. I gotta tell you now that when you reached at this part of the show, this when things get a bit "bittersweet" I guess? You'll know when you see it.Then we have Jayce, a motivated inventor tried to study how to use magic due to his past that someone used arcane magic to save him and his mother from dying from the artic cold. He's character was fine,  arc wise no real threat but he's decision and actions in trying to prove to the council, especially heimerdinger who feared the dangers of Arcane, may lead to change in Piltover.
Other than that, action, animation and soundtrack wise was AMAZING. The animation along with the visuals is very smooth and clean. It was pleasing to watch during the episode of Jayce’s backstory when a magician used magic to save him and his mother to teleport to another area, the magic circle and sparks was beautiful. You can spot on other visuals throughout the episode. Then the action and fighting scenes part, they used slow motions in some parts to emphasize more on the motion and impact, which was pretty cool. And of course not to forget, the soundtrack used in certain scenes gives better impact based on the events occurred in parts of the plot.
VERDICT
So yeah overall, I definitely recommend this to every League of Legends players to watch this series but I think by now, even if I didn’t tell you this you guys probably went straight into the action by now lol. But if you’re not a League player and you’ve got nothing else to watch. I’d recommend you guys to watch this as well. This one is an easy 10/10 for me heheh.
So for those of you who have already watch it, what are your thoughts? Do you agree with what I’ve explained in this post? Do comment below to share your opinions as I’m also curious to know for your point of view.
See ya’ll in my next post! Cheers!

New adventure begins....on a train ride...
SYNOPSIS
Before I explain further on what to expect for the Mugen Train Arc, let me give a quick and brief recap of season 1 for those of who may need some refresher or maybe have skipped season 1 for some reason. So long story short, the story focuses on the journey of Tanjiro on a quest for revenge for the death of his family who were killed by a demon. All of his family members were dead except for his sister, Nezuko who survived but became a demon which she manages to control herself from eating or injuring his brother. At the same time, Tanjiro tries master the art of demon slaying using a katana as that is the only to fight other demons in this realm. Thus, the whole journey of Tanjiro and Nezuko during season 1 has been trying to train new moves and skills of demon slaying, and at the same met a few friends along the path; Zenitsu and Inotsuke. Both are..... “ unique ” and comedic characters but have decent strengths and katana skills in assisting Tanjiro during his journey. Together all four them travelled together, fought some tough demons that made them develop further with new skills and power. Then as the season reached its finale, they had to continue to find the demon responsible for killing Tanjiro’s family by going on a train ride next to their destination. Hence here we are! Season 2 is here in netflix and started with Mugen Train arc!
There are some mixed reactions regarding this because there was actually a movie about Mugen Train arc which was released last year 2020, months after season 1. Those who already watched this are a bit disappointed as they need to wait longer for a new episode arc after this, which is the Entertainment District Arc while those who haven’t watched the movie finally get their chance and are very eager in looking forward for weekly episode release. As for me, I did had mixed feelings about this as I have already watched the movie but the producers did mention there will be some new scenes added in to re-adapt the Mugen Train Arc a bit and this made me curious. So with the episodes released so far, do I recommend for those who have watched the movie?
Tumblr media

Now let me tell you readers that as of now ONLY episode 1 is a new scene that was not featured in the movie. Basically episode 1 introduces us Rengoku, a fire hashira of the Demon Slayer Corp who is very skilled in the Fire Breathing Style of katana wielding skill and can fight/kill lower rank demons very easily. The whole episode basically is just showing him doing some preparations and investigations regarding passengers that have went mysteriously missing went boarding a train. For me this episode does not have impact much with the story going forward because how I see this is basically just a fanservice for the Rengoku fans out there who likes to see him in action and to those who have watched the movie...well without saying any spoilers...lets just say that this episode is for you before....you know....heh 😓... Other than that, this episode is also relevant at the same time because its a good start for those who have not watch the movie as it introduces and prepares you all what to expect about the next future episodes for this arc and especially introducing Rengoku as he plays as an important role in this arc.

As for episodes 2 until 4 as of now, I can say that for those who have seen the movie can skip these for now as all of the scenes, music, action sequences, animation and music are the same from the movie. While for those who have no seen the movie yet, you may look forward for these episodes as episode 2 is where the series continued after the final episode from season 1 where Tanjiro and the gang boarded the train. At this point is where they get to meet Rengoku and the antagonist of this arc, Enmu, the lower rank Demon who was introduced during last season finale as well. Again without trying to spoil anything, be prepared for another emotional ride of amazing fighting scenes with beautiful animations and musical score just like season . Alll thanks to the effort from Ufotable studios in which they did not disappoint. As for me, even though I’ve already watched the movie, I still enjoyed the episodes as a recap but man I don’t think I will ever be ready for what is next to come although I already know what to expect.......
Tumblr media

VERDICT
So yeah overall, only new scene that is not featured in the movie is only episode 1 as of now. So I do recommend those who have seen the movie to watch this and maybe watch the rest as just a recap before the Entertainment Arc begins. While for those who have not seen the movie, I have said from my earlier post so all I can say now...enjoy the series and prepare some tissues! ‘😤🤧
Have you guys started watching season 2 now? What are your thoughts? Do share them in the comments below :D I’ll see you guys in my next post. Cheers!

REVIEW: Netflix’s Squid Game
Tumblr media
Movie poster downloaded from: https://www.cinematerial.com/tv/squid-game-i10919420/p/eom0ctk0
Ah yes Squid Game, the latest Korean drama series from netflix which right now is the current trending and most talked about series at the moment. It is pretty much EVERYWHERE in social media, especially in Tiktok where everytime I open the app, this always appears in my FYP. To the point that I almost got spoiled but luckily I managed to skip these posts in a hurry *phew*.
With all the current hype about this series, I managed to finally finished the series in one go (well not really, took me two days because I need breaks as there were some parts that was a bit slow for me) and am FREE FROM SPOILERS HAHA!
Well now it is time for me give my own opinion about this series. Do refer my next post below for my review! Eventhough it has already been months after the release, I’ll try to make my post spoiler-free as possible to those who haven’t watched the series yet
P.S Sorry for the LONG DELAY as I have a lot of commitments in my Uni tasks :/

Eyes on the prize! Desperate for money even if you have to kill? Join Squid Game now! 😈
Tumblr media
photo downloaded from https://wallpaperaccess.com/squid-game
SYNOPSIS
The whole premise of the series is that we have a mysterious unknown organization approaching people with financial debt, inviting them to participate a game which offers 45.6 billion Won as the prize money. What the participants does not know that the game involves killing other players off the round and survive. Only the players realize that when started with just first part of the game. These mysterious organization consists of soldiers in pink jacket uniform with three different shapes on their individual masks to distinguish their rank; from low to high rank; Circle as normal soldiers, Triangle as armed soldier and Square as their supervisor. But the one who manage and oversees everything is the Front Man, wearing black jacket with black mask to hide his identity.
The main character focus of the show is Seong Gi-Hun, a divorced middle-aged man living with his mother where both are living with financial problems. One day, Gi-hun finally won huge cash winnings after winning a bet at a horse race but all of them suddenly vanished when Gi-hun tried to escape from the loan sharks which he has a debt to settled. His cash was actually stolen when during his attempt escape run, he accidently knocked over someone who later on will meet again later  the series. This someone is Kang Sae-Byeok. When Gi-Hun accidentally bumped her she used the opportunity to pickpocket the cash winnings from him. Now he went back to square one of being broke and in financial debt. Later on he was approached by one of the agent of the mysterious organization. The agent first invited him to play slap a card which if he wins, he’ll earn money but if he loses, he’ll get slapped. After several slap on the face, the agent offered him his business card, which is an invitation to play Squid Game, where the winner will earn cash winnings. Due to desperation and having some thoughts, Gi-hun accepted the invitation and what he did not  know not until later on is that he participated a deadly survival game with 456 other players, doing whatever it takes to survive the 6 games based on children games just for the sake of winning the cash prize. It is now up to Gi-hun and other players, think of way to plan and survive the next round to come!
PROs and CONs
Let’s talk about what I think is the  ONLY bad part of the series which was my first impression of it. Honestly during the first few episodes of watching the series, it gave me an impression that the series was overhyped. A lot of people in my social media page kept talking about this show and keep on referencing and spoiling a bit some early scenes of the show which means I had expectations that the show was that good but my first early impression of this drama is that it was just normal, nothing special or worth hyping because the games introduced on earlier episodes were team based, hence I had this expectation that all of this game will be team based.  BUT I was definitely wrong hahahaha. As I continue to progress watching the episodes, there is that one point where one of the game decided to twist the rule and took a dark turn, which is instead of working together with your partner, you need to kill that partner instead. That moment is consider as a WTF moment for me and fully changed my impression. For those who haven’t watched yet, I will not tell which episode this is for avoid spoilers. This part of the series is definitely my personal highlight of the show due to that twist in rule that I did not see that coming. Also this episode is where we get to see more of our characters interacting with their partner before one of them got killed off and we get to see true colours of one of the characters.
Speaking of characters, they are part of the good aspect of the show in which honestly I think the actors made an amazing performance. Gi-Hun at first, I did not like the character because early on of the series is that all he thinks about is money and there is something about his personality and attitude I really don’t like and I can’t describe it but as the episode progress, he’s character has changed in motive due to his participation in the game. His reason of joining the game in the first place is out of desperation of getting the money but all of that has changed as he seen a lot of people died from the games and players killing each other for the sake of money. His character development is one of the Pros side of the movie. Other characters, Cho Sang-woo, Kang Sae-byeok, Abdul Ali, Oh-ilNam, Jang Deok-su, Han Mi-nyeo and Hwang Jun-ho standout as well. I would love to elaborate more it will be spoilers, so to summarize basically some of these characters, one of them you will either love them at first then hate later or vice versa due to their choice and action in the series, or you just love them just because that character is nice all the way. I will let you know early  that some of them will die and when you see that moment you will definite feel sympathetic towards. That goes for me as well and I definitely did not cry when I saw some of them died *cough* *cough*. The ones that suddenly bad in the end you will definitely hate them but at the same time understood their decision because it is just human nature and in their situation, it is the human thing to do sometimes to do whatever it takes to survive even when you had to trick people to be killed and they stay alive. Again you may have no idea what I’m explaining here but yea I’m trying not to spoil so better go watch the series so you can understand better heheh.
Other than that, the Pros aspect of this show is the set design used in the games.  Some of their set is unique and one of them was visually pleasing to watch as these sets were made in real life, not using CGI. This practical approach in set design production I think is a good choice because if everything is heavily dependent on using CGI and visual effects, otherwise the set design might look a bit fake on screen. Not looking realistic affects the impact of the pleasing visuals of the set design.
VERDICT
Overall, I was wrong for giving a wrong first impression just by looking at the first few episodes and I’m glad I binged watch all the episodes for two days. The character development and some plot twists in the show really has proven itself to be worth hyping up and become one of the best series of the year in Netflix. Giving this a personal rating of 9/10 and I definitely recommend for non-kdrama viewers to try and watch this series or at least put this as their must-watch for 2021 series. But not recommended to watch for younger audience due to violence and uncensored nudity with sex scene present in one of the episode so be careful not to watch with your family and your child/ young siblings.
So those who has watch the whole thing. What are your thoughts? Do let me know in the comments below and try to avoid spoilers please for the others as well :D
See you all in my next post! Cheers!

IMPRESSION: Netflix's Clickbait (First two episodes)
SYNOPSIS
So Netflix's Clickbait is an 8 episode CSI drama series about solving the mystery of how or who kidnapped Nick when his sister, Pia, discovers that his brother got kidnapped and viraled in a video with him showing a sign he will die in 5 million views, he abuses women etc. Knowing his brother's real behaviour, Pia sensed that something is wrong and immediately tried to get help finding his brother. It is now up to her and the people around her to solve the mystery and finding Nick's whereabouts.
IMPRESSIONS
With the first two episodes I've watched so far, I can say that it got me invested as how it keeps me thinking and got me curious, how and what is the motive Nick got captured in the first place. First episode gave an impression that he is a nice guy and the sign he is holding on the video does not really reflect him at all. Although this is a CSI drama we are talking about so who knows? We might get the real answer reveal as we progress through the series.
Then another thing I would like to point out is that , even though it has only been two episodes, I noticed that the titles of each of the episodes suggests that the character focus in the narrative will change one episode from another. For instance, the first episode focuses on Pia's perspective, the sister of the victim then the next episode changes to another character perspective which is a detective who is involve with the investigation. The change in character's focus and perspective allows me to see and be familiar with that character's background story and certain agendas that they need to achieve. This change in character focus I think is not a bad thing as well since the plot still progresses on.
CONCLUSION
For those who loves CSI type of drama, I definitely recommend you guys to check this one out. And if you've already watched the whole thing, please don't spoil lol. Let me get that whole experience of suspense and shocking reveal by myself. Guess that is it for now, I'll continue on this review if I've already watched the whole series.

Netflix’s Animated Monster Hunter better than the live action? 😲
To be frank, I have never really watched the live action version by Paul Anderson nor do I even the intend to even watch it. Just by watching from the trailer release back then I had doubts to either go watch it at the cinema or just stream it.  Until now I never had a slight interest to watch it cause after watching the animation from Netflix, it was already enough.
SYNOPSIS
The movie focuses on the narrative background story of Aiden;  a young, hardworking village hunter who one day went out to find the culprit who stole a village farmer’s goods. While on the journey he got attacked by a Velocidrome ( a blue raptor like dinosaur) but got rescued by a professional Guild Hunter, Julius. The encounter with the Guild Hunter definitely was not a coincidence as his real purpose was to come to Aiden’s village to warn the village head and it’s people about the coming danger of an Elder Dragon who is about to approach the village in a week. It is now up to Aiden and Julius to come up with a way to defend the village and fight off the Elder Dragon.
PROs and CONs
Let me explain the good part about this movie first. Firstly if you have ever played any Monster Hunter titles before then I DEFINITELY recommend you guys to watch this movie. Most of the references they mentioned and shown in the movie are easily recognizable, especially the weapons and monsters.
In some parts of the movie you could see Aiden wielding a giant hammer and how he swings them is pretty much the same as how you wield in the game. There’s also a scene where Julius is teaching Aiden how to wield a dual blade and yes the way he demonstrates the normal swing is almost the same animation swing from the game. That is pretty much some of the weapons used but I won’t say further for the others so you can see them for yourselves!
The monsters here, holy crap their movement, behaviour and attack choreography is the same from the games as well! The monster is, I think is what will attract the Monster Hunter fans to be interested in this movie. Lunastra is the main baddie here. The menacing Queen of Elder Dragon who controls fire, is where most hunter players struggled to fight especially in Monster Hunter: World. In fact, I still am furious just thinking about the name itself since I’ve always struggle A LOT fighting this beast 😬. Lunastra is probably one of the most famous Elder Dragon in Monster Hunter series and I think they made the right choice choosing her as the villain, a huge threat in this movie. They even made a menacing fiery entrance when they introduced her and all I can say that it was pretty bad***.
That’s pretty much it I would to point out about the good part of this movie. Now the only huge letdown about this movie is the animation itself. Sometimes it is good but other times it feels like it’s a bit “cluncky”? when they do the fight scene and I do notice that sometimes that the lips movement is a bit slow to sync with the audio speech, or maybe it’s just me. But animation still is an issue here. This movie is probably just a test run whether this will be a success or not which explains the bad animation(?) either way, for me it is still a bit tolerable in a way as the story, monsters, characters and some references made me ignore the animation issues.
VERDICT
So in the end, even though the animation is an issue despite this movie is supposed to attract the Monster Hunter players and community to be enjoy the love this movie, I think it still worth the watch and again, I really do recommend to any Monster Hunter enthusiast to watch this movie and support it so that maybe they can continue on making this project of either another movie or make it a series maybe. And they might improve the animation if they plan for another project. For the casuals movie goers who does not recognized and play any Monster Hunter titles before, this may not be the movie for you and you might criticize the bad animation parts. But if you are interested to watch then go ahead! Enjoy the Monster Hunter experience!
