I'm having a moment and I don't think there's a better place to put this so hello again.
So I am chronically ill with digestive issues. My father is, my grandfather was, my aunts on his side are too. I assume this continues on up my paternal line.
I have been looking for foods & herbs that are demulcent, since that seems to help me the most.
Mullien is a type of plant that has a lot of moisturizing effects, but I was only familiar with the leaf used in teas and smoking blends. While reading more about it, the root is traditionally used for back pain.
The primary indication I have of indigestion is back pain. The same thing my father has.
My last name is a variant on Mullien.
I looked up where Mullien is indigenous to, and it matches up with where my paternal line lived before coming to America.
I'm so. WE ARE NAMED AFTER THIS PLANT. PROBABLY BECAUSE WE RELIED ON IT SO MUCH. FUCK.
I'm off to procure some Mullien root.
Getting whacked over the head by the ancestors. once again.

I feel like I'm finally in the last quarter mile of healing. Topical progesterone has been such a restoration. I haven't felt this good since before puberty, and at 31 that's quite a long time from 14.
My axis of ills seems to hinge on EDS and a compound heterozygous MTHFR gene variant. When I hit puberty my body couldn't clear the excess estrogen, and it built up quickly. Compounded by the stress of abuse, neglect, and living in a home riddled with black mold, the estrogen kept increasing and the progesterone that was supposed to stabilize my mast cells was not kicking in.
The EDS seems to be improved by strength training, yoga, and zinc supplements (but not too much).
The MTHFR & other metabolic variants are able to be managed by high intake of vitamin rich foods, like herring and liver.
The MCAS is gradually receeding. My gut microbiome continues to be exceedingly delicate but I am hoping it will stabilize in time with the right mix of probiotics and foods. Aloe and L-Glutamine have helped stop most of the joint and organ pain.
I am so thankful that topical bioidentical progesterone exists and it's able to be purchased without a prescription. I can feel it waking up my parasympathetic nervous system and I can finally feel all the things my therapist hopelessly tried to elicit in me through talk therapy, somatic experiencing, and emdr (lmao).
I wish literally anyone had talked to me about estrogen dominance and the importance of progesterone in balancing estrogen's effects. I could have skipped years of hormonal birth control that only ever made me sicker. I could have avoided surgery and all the complications it has caused. I couldn't make different choices with the options I was given at the time, but I'm glad I'm still here to make better informed choices now.
From the bottom of my heart to the tips of my fingers, I hope the western patriarchal white supremacist eugenicist insurance-medical system dies in a fire and we can all build something better with our collective knowledge and experience.
I deserved health care as a child, an adult, as a disabled and chronically ill person, as a queer and trans person, as a survivor of abuse and neglect.
We all deserve better care, community care. I hope we can help each other live our best lives. My life has been saved by other sick people on the internet talking about their problems and how they've solved them. By free research articles from so many countries. By people sick like me who have perservered and developed medicine despite being told we're not really sick, we're just a bit sad, if we went out and did more or tried harder and were more optimistic we'd get better.
I was almost sick to death of people telling me it was all in my head, I was having an emotional problem, or that I was making up my symptoms. That shit almost killed me and it came from everyone. My family, teachers, friends, therapist. Above all, trust yourself and trust that your journey back to health will be worthwhile. Just because others don't understand doesn't mean no one will. I've had wonderful support from friends and complete strangers.
Augh, I could go on forever. I've had such a long six years of serious illness. I'm so glad to be shaking out of it. MCAS SUCKS!!!!!!!!!! TOPICAL PROGESTERONE RULES!!!!!!! THANK YOU TO MY FRIENDS WHO HAVE BEEN WITH ME THIS WHOLE TIME!!!!!!

hey everyone you can find me @p0laris on bluesky. desktop is broken such that it's pretty much unusable so I won't be able to use this blog regularly.
However, I've spoken to so many of you over the years with health issues like mine, and I'd like to put the info I've learned and solutions I've experienced out into this space. 1. If you have heavy bleeding and clotting, excessive cramps, ovarian cysts, terrible mood swings, or any other various really bad menstrual cycle symptoms: you probably have too much estrogen in your system. Take 1000-1500mg of berberine (from oregon grape, barberry, goldenseal etc) per day (for insulin resistance, gut bacteria overgrowth, PCOS, and estrogen normalization) or 50-200mg/day of DIM (Diindolylmethane, from cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, for estrogen normalization and inflammation reduction). Or you can take them together for complementary effects.
2. Progesterone is a natural anti-inflammatory and is the reason people with autoimmune diseases get pregnant and then no longer have an autoimmune disease during pregnancy, and sometimes they are cured for good. Artificial hormones are shit for the body if you're unable to process them, which is common in people with autoimmune conditions. "Body-identical" progesterone can be made from mexican yams and soy, and is best applied topically in 50mg/day doses during the last 14 days of your menstrual cycle if you're premenopausal, or you can take it every day if you're post-menopausal. Your cycle begins on the first day of your period. Be wary of "bio-identical" instead of "body-identical" and make sure your supplement is certified by a healthcare regulatory committee. If you take too little progesterone it can make things worse.
3. If you're taking estrogenizing HRT (THIS INCLUDES HORMONAL BIRTH CONTROL) and your doctor hasn't prescribed you progesterone pls go get that, otherwise you're in the same boat of having a high level of estrogen and (probably) low levels of progesterone, which can lead to the development of autoimmune conditions if your body has a hard time eliminating excess estrogen. However, artificial progesterone can also be difficult to process and can cause its own issues. If you are taking synthesized hormones and start to experience autoimmune problems please do your own research but I would recommend seeking out bioidentical/body-identical HRT over artificial HRT every day of the week. Or, at least make sure the artificial HRT is in the same proportion as a natural hormone cycle. MANY birth controls utilize high levels of artificial hormones which can cause more problems than they solve if you do not have the ability to excrete excess hormones.
love you all.

Kid: I can’t and won’t thing/situation
Me: I completely understand. For no reason, we are just going to sit calmly next to thing/situation.Don’t have to do anything we’re just gonna sit here.
Kid: *has opportunity to be exposed to thing/situation in a low-pressure environment by being adjacent to it and observing without participating*
Kid: I think… I think I am brave and can try thing/situation now. *feels brave because participating in thing/situation is now a choice and not an obligation*
Me: Wow, I’m glad you feel brave now! Let’s do it!

it is weird that celiac stuff has become part of the 'culture war'. because it's literally just a medical thing.... I get super anemic unless I cut a certain protein out of my diet, because it bulldozes the villi in my intestines. but if I post about it, right-wingers send me gore images. I guess you can't expect shitty people to be logical, but I've even heard lefty people make fun of gluten stuff, and it's like why are you mad about this??? why are you pissed off that I'm eating bread that doesn't taste as good so that I can have blood in my body? it's so morally neutral.
