Getting emotional thinking about (good) children's shows. Specifically educational shows/shows that have a lesson, Wild Kratts, Odd Squad, Word Girl, Bluey, Sesame Street, Mr Rodgers, ect.

Shows that are made just to gently hold your hand as you grow up. Shows that are made to introduce you to the world, give you a little pat on the head and some knowledge, some animal facts, some basic math to share on the playground.

Something about the thought of rooms of writers sitting down and thinking about what lesson to teach kids in the next episode, how do we word this in a way the kids would understand, how should we present this information, makes me warm.

There's just a feeling about them. Like extra care has been put into them, like they are handling the viewer gently. Not patronizingly. But gently. These shows aren't made to scare you or keep you hooked till the next episode, make sure you binge the entire season.

They feel like they would gently wipe your tears away after you scraped your knee, give you a dinosaur bandaid while telling you a cool fact about dinosaurs to cheer you up, then help you back to your friends. They just feel kind. Feel safe.

The best way I can describe it is like... Kinda parental. Like they are just shows, they can't replace a parent obviously, but they took part in raising you. In shaping you into how you are today. And no matter what, I think they would be proud.

Okay, I know a lot of people think Grampa's name is a variant of Petey's (Pete, Peter, etc), but...

I think it's Ralph.

It makes sense that he would call Li'l Petey "Ralphie" here, given that he doesn't bother to remember his grandson's name.

It explains Petey's expression really well

He's clearly imposing himself on these two, especially since he called Petey "Junior" in the last book. After all, they look like him, so they take after him by nature! (...right?)

🔧🦴 — I always thought how funny and perfect it is that Lil Petey calls Petey “Papa” because that just makes it so fitting for Dog Man to be called “Dad”. Petey starts with “P” so “papa” and Dog Man starts with a “D” so “dad”. Silly coincidence.

Thank goodness there’s multiple ways to say father and mother. It makes it easier for the gays we would have figured out a way anyways somehow hahaha

Still I can imagine both situations for Lil Petey. He probably just keeps saying “Dog Man” because that’s just what he’s used to. But it’s nice to think Lil Petey out-of-nowhere, unconsciously calls Dog Man “dad” for the first time. Of course, Dog Man would be surprised but quickly accepts it full-heartedly.

Petey: Change Your Mind (yes it's short but it gives redemption arc tones so I like it for him)

Li'l Petey: Tommorow (the OG optimistic song)

Chief and Genie/Sarah: Get This Right (depends on who you ship him with, this is how they got engaged)

Sarah or Yolay: Try Everything (I can't really explain this one, just vibes)

Molly: Get Back Up Again (this one gives optimistic yet aggressive vibes, which is exactly her type)

Dr. Scum: How Bad Can I Be (this one's here cuz it's funny, and it actually fits him in book 12)

Big Jim: Backflip (listen to this and try to tell me it doesn't sound exactly like him. It's like his theme song throughout Big Jim Begins)

Grampa: Remember Me - Ernesto de la Cruz (this is mainly here to contrast with Grace, but both Grampa and Ernesto are terrible people who exploit/abuse everybody, especially their partners, so I thought this one fit)

Grace: Remember Me - Hector Rivera (meanwhile Grace and Hector are kind souls who were dealt unlucky cards in the game of life, and truly cared for the children they never got to see grow up. Gone, but not forgotten)

I got the idea of it bc I was wondering why every animal in the dogman universe can literally talk except for dogs.

Well that's my only excuse for this AU 😐

Fun fact: Anthropomorphic is just a fancy scientific word for creatures that can talk and act like humans

@pineapple-cowboy got it right in the comments; this cop's part unicorn, part pegasus, and all alicorn hero!

And here are the other two guys to complete the trio:

Twisty's (Petey's) cutie mark is a star inside a gear, showcasing a talent is in using magic for science (obviously). Peaceful Twirl (Li'l Petey, similar name intended) was a cloning accident, and he was nothing like the evil Peaky Twist... but strangely, when Twirly got his mark, it was an inversion of his: a gear inside a star.

Maybe we're not so different after all.

They were combined after the accident, and Pegacorn can't speak because of it. Messed up vocal cords and things.

This guy had so much angst after this. He had to get used to being a technical alicorn, had Knight's cutie mark for a while (he got his own later, but that's another can of worms) and he got a bit popular with the press:
