im so afraid of the future. i have no idea what i want my career to be and bc of this my parents are trying to encourage me to do subjects they want - which is the opposite of what i want. ive heard too many adults talk about the 'real world'. do things ever get better? it gives me so much anxiety

hi angel!! please don’t worry too much. i know it’s stressful and scary (believe me, i spend sooo many nights worrying about this and whilst it’s getting better, it’s still a terrifying concept) but it really does get better and you’re not alone in this. barely anyone knows what they want in life when they’re young - heck, even people in their 30s and 40s are still figuring it out or just faking their way through it, so don’t feel like you’re the only one who doesn’t know what they want because i assure you it is very very common. it does get better though!! and please don’t ever feel like you’re constrained by your choices right now. even if you choose to major in one thing or go down one career path, it doesn’t mean you’re stuck in that particular field whatsoever. you have no limits!! you’re free to do whatever you wish, as long as you’re willing to try and learn along the way. for example - my older brother majored in physics, but he now works in business analysis which is v computer science-y. my oldest brother majored in accounting, but he changed to be a chef and is now working in social media. what you decide to do isn’t permanent unless you want it to be. you’ll be okay bub!!
