some general thoughts after finishing egghead!
i love love love that the main consequence of the ancient weapons' use is worldwide isolation. the ocean rises and buries nearly everything and great continents become islands where people are "content to live and die" exactly where they are. and how the ability to hide an entire century of history is possible because of that isolation... easier for the world gov to control its nations, and wipe problematic places off the map
and oh my god the recontextualization of roger's last words, and the one piece itself, is one of my favorite things about this story period. "i left everything the world has to offer" how you assume at the beginning that it's just a bunch of gold doubloons because you don't know!!! just like almost everyone in the story's world, you have no idea what it could possibly be!!! you don't know that in-universe propaganda assumed roger sought wealth, fame, and power. it's only when you set out on this journey and learn along with the main characters why the world is the way it is that the pieces fall into place. it's so compelling. "everything the world has to offer" is much more literal than it seemed
and now this great treasure, information that would shake the corrupt foundation of this world, is what will change everything. and the idea that pirates are the ones closest to the truth of the world, because above being uniformly Good or Bad they are just Free.....
#SORRY IVE BEEN NEGLECTING THIS BLOG SOBS i got a summer job and also deltarune happened#not a screencap#egghead spoilers#i was comparing bonney to tetra from zelda the wind waker in my head#and then they were like 'btw the entire world flooded and now islands are all that's left'#i can't believe... i was just like lol pirates have it good in this world their globe is like 90% ocean good for them#now taking to the seas to discover things youve never seen before has a whole new layer#making my brain race with thoughts about the red line and the holy land...#what those could have been like when the ocean was 200 meters (!!?!??!?!) lower than it is now#really a land of the gods then#how wano is kind of a microcosm of what happened to the entire globe#and where is the water going now that there's a big hole where lulusia used to be???

i hope they have a bunch of useless little souvenirs from places they've been and they decorate the sunny with them
#sabaody is one of my fave locations in the whole series#it's just so fascinating and well-done i love its awful despicable underbelly contrasted with the touristy stuff#i love that people can buy souvenirs of the grand line the most dangerous ocean in the world#and i know sabaody in particular is like a big tourist destination bc of where it is#but it makes me wonder if everywhere on the grand line is like that to some extent#this world is pretty isolated but is tourism still a substantial thing? does every island sell little pennants and keychains??#do normal people buy them or is it only pirates??#since the grand line is a line and people travel it like a line do they have merch like US truckstops???#sabaody archipelago#brook#chopper#luffy
