Have you been waiting for The Play Maker? We sure have. It's finally on its way. April 24 is the release date for Oswego State's only sports magazine. The best part about this issue? It's 40 pages. Yeah, 40. That's twice the size of last semester's and something we look forward to providing Oswego with. We're getting rid of the white border as well. Visit  http://theplaymaker.oswegonian.com/ to sign up and we'll let you know when the website goes live. We're excited, you should be too.

We've created a best of Oswego awards with eleven categories. The best part about it? The readers vote. Click on the picture to go vote for your favorite places in Oswego. We've covered what we feel is important, but most of the categories also give you the opportunity to write your own choice in. Make sure you vote before April 20 at 10 p.m. because we'll make sure to promptly close voting. Share the link with your friends too.

Did you miss us?
We are finally back after our two week hiatus, in the office and excited to bring you all the Oswego news we can.
We hope all of of our readers were able to fill the time without an issue by enjoying their spring breaks as much as we did. We know we did, as each of us on The Oswegonian staff either travelled, caught up on rest, visited friends or all of the above.
For five of us (shown in the photo above) spring break proved to be an adventure we will not soon forget. As part of a broadcasting class, we were able to travel with six other students (including several members of our Oswego State media counterparts WTOP-10 and WNYO) to Paris to study their institutions of media and journalism.
Aside from hitting the usual Paris spots (Eiffel Tower, The Louvre, Notre Dame, Arc de Triomphe, Versailles — each amazing in their own right), our group got a chance to go and tour some of the largest media organizations in France, including Radio France (their national news and culture radio station), AFP (a worldwide news wire based in Paris), the Irish Embassy in Paris (including their public relations coordinator) and met with Eleanor Beardsley, the Paris correspondent for NPR, and Harold Hyman, a New York City-born journalist for French cable news network BFM. Each experience provided a unique perspective on the way journalism is carried out in a foreign country, including lessons we hope to use to better the news we provide you each week.
We would like to thank professor Eileen Gilligan and Oswego State for making the amazing and eye-opening week possible.
As for now, we are putting off jet lag and diving into the new week. It's a big one for us, as we are working on both The Oswegonian and the next edition of The Playmaker, along with our yearly April Fools day issue, The OsweOnion. So keep an eye out for each, and don't forget to check back here, as we will be updating throughout the week on what to expect from this week's paper.

Check out The Oswegonian this week. Here's a quick rundown of some stories in this week's issue:
In news this week:
Student Association elections will be held Monday, March 11 and Tuesday, March 12. The positions up for vote are president and vice president. There is no race this year, with Anthony Smith and Ben June running unopposed for the positions respectively.
One of our copy editors Ryan checked out how the sequester would affect Oswego State. The trillion dollar cuts will lead to negative affects for those who receive federal loans and participate in work study programs.
It was also noticed that fewer Oswego State students are coming from the immediate local area around Oswego, with more students coming from New York City and Long Island.
Our assistant news editor Seamus spoke with both sides of the gun control argument in the state and looked at the Upstate vs. Downstate argument.
In sports this week:
Congratulations to Blake Fisher for placing second at the NCAA Regional tournament last weekend. He'll attend nationals at the end of next week.
Hayden Ward won SUNYAC Player of the Year for the men's basketball team, while Paul Rodrigues won the same honor for men's hockey. We have stories on both awards.
Speaking of men's hockey, the team won the SUNYAC Championship over SUNY Plattsburgh 4-0.
We also have a preview of their next NCAA tournament game at Adrian College in Michigan.
In Laker Review this week:
There is a positive review of "21 and Over."
Two Oswego State students have started their own clothing brand called "Inspired Brand Clothing." We have in interview with the founders.
A review of the Oswego Theater Department play "Desdemona: A Play About a Handkerchief"
In Opinion this week:
A staff editorial on when it is OK to work for free.
A NASCAR season preview by our Managing Editor, Nick.
Also, a comical take on issues in the laundry rooms on campus by one of our copy editors Amanda.
An opinion on whether the National League should continue to have pitchers bat by Ryan.
