Love how akutagawa and atsushi were fundamentally the same traumatised kids begging for a chance at life only to be granted hope at the expense of autonomy and safety respectively, only to take drastically different paths as a result of this mentor which, for one of them was everything and for the other a mere cog in the machine, that being the ada. I loveeee how theyre both inherently selfish but one has learned to forgo all of his needs in order to be a soldier and the other uses this drive to save people in need, whilst self indulging in the (deprecating natured) memories of his childhood brings. I loveeee how akutagawa has learned what it meant to be selfish and deemed it too much of a hassle, losing his will to go on in the process, while atsushi doesnt know why he fights, but as long as his heart beats and his breath accelerates in intakes he might as well, right?

Akutagawas arc is about him accepting that he can be selfish and take from others what he needs. Atsushis arc is about not letting his past dictate who he is and what he does, in the process finding a reason to go on just as akutagawa has.

Akutagawa is not a mutt. He is not a servant with orders to follow and with only docility in his bones. He is no farm animal waiting to be slaughtered.

He is anger. Furious at his life, his god, himself. He steps out of line any way he can, because he is no dog. Akutagawa is rage, personafied.

When the tiger meets his gaze with matching hatred, a fury only formed at the expense of innocence, a bubble of immobilizing sparkles constructed itself out of the anatomy of this hateful, rebellious creature who is neither human nor animal. And he was happy rather than angry. And he hated the tiger.

And when the tiger didnt stop hating him either, when he jumped at every possible accusation most would call a cruel and unfair conclusion, Akutagawa was happy. His anger recognized along with his otherwise dwindling humanity. He was more than a mutt and he was capable.

And then, when the tiger showed compassion and simultaneously hated him, Akutagawa didnt know what to feel. Because pity was for poverty-ridden children who you would never help and dirty, rabid stray dogs alike. The ones who will grovel at your feet for nothing at all except attention. Akutagawa is not a mutt. But he was still hated.

And when the weretiger saved and saved and spoke for the weak instead of fighting for his strength, Akutagawa hated him even more and hit back little harder.

With his neck half-severed and mercy gleeming across the horizon like a rising sun, he revelled in the look on the weretigers face. Disbelief. Because Akutagawa doesnt protect his masters. But he did. He is a dog at heart.

Afterwards it was his turn. To watch. Though surprise was far and in its place anger resurfaced. How dare he undermine his sacrifice when all his life he had been searching for the merciful god in the stories? How dare he crush and crumble his beliefs infront of him when he kept them daggling over his head mockingly all this time? How dare the weretiger.

With his arms gone and body hanging, the first god he encountered greeted him with words he immediately succumbed to. He was docile. He was a dog again.

But, the cruel, harsh, hateful god returned, bursting through the seams of reality and severing the connection between him and the reaper.

And he was beautiful. And he was angry. Akutagawa thinks they are neither human nor dogs.

look you can't tell me with how quickly spamton fucking folded the second he saw tenna with that pipis that he did not have the biggest soft spot for tenna during their whole relationship. I get we love toxic doomed yaoi but spamton couldn't even commit. he did all that shit talking far away. and then sees tenna might give the tiniest modicum of a fuck and FOLDS. he is a FAKE HATER I just cannot see him trying to use tenna during their relationship or being cold or distant cause if that was the case he would not have had a backbone with the integrity of a soggy french fry seeing the tiniest indication tenna cared about him. that man was pathetic about that TV. But Akutagawa *is* like an asshole! I actually really like portrayals of sskk that don't sugarcoat their messy and under many aspects fucked up relationship, that's why I particularly enjoyed that doujinshi. You can read it here!
