the scene in the quarry after eddie dies is so heartbreaking because they're all reminiscing about eddie and laughing and then they turn to richie because they're expecting him to say something and he's so uncharacteristically silent, but he can't keep his jokester facade in place and he just absolutely crumbles and starts sobbing. and richie's friends know at this point how richie felt about eddie because he's so completely devastated and they all flock to him as he breaks.... academy award.
