Hi! It’s D, D-Baby, D-Bone, D-Boy, Dr. D - whatever name suits your fancy. K and I made this blog with the hopes of sharing little bits of our lives with others. I’ve never blogged before - so here goes the first of hopefully many more rants by D.
A little bit about myself: I’m 25 years old. I love books, especially old ones. I love history and current events with most of my heart. I’m a first-year high school English teacher (school starts Tuesday!), and I’m really into sports stats.
As it is Friday, it has been good to reflect on what has been such a good week. After finishing my final semester of my teaching degree in the middle of August, I was hired for a full time teaching position this past Monday! Ah! So wild. I count myself very lucky to be teaching at a school that is not only close to home, but also in a subject area that I am passionate about.
I love high schoolers. There is something so awkward and fun and exciting about that particular age group. They are social beings, passionate learners, and eager creators. It is so fun to push them and help them learn.
Today started out so good. K and I woke up a little early (damn, 6am), made coffee, and went for a little walk. This is something we never do, and there is something so lovely about walking about in the cool and fresh air and drinking coffee.
I spent the day talking to my principal, department heads, and teachers and trying to remember as many new names as possible. The challenging part about being hired a week before the start of the school year is getting to know staff members and planning lessons and units for subjects that you are completely new to. Oh well! It’s part of the job, and it was always going to be a challenge in the first year.
Anyways, that’s me! Can’t wait to chat more.

hello, tumblr!
Hello, world! I guess that’s actually a Wordpress thing....maybe this is a sign I’ve had too many blogs?! Anyway, I’m a dietitian. I am married to a teacher, and we thought it would be fun to document the fun and awkward and challenging and wonderful little bits of our life. Two things: 1. I am a dietitian. I love eating, and food, and nutrition is pretty cool, too. If you were wondering, I don’t make meal plans, but I do care a lot about others’ relationships with food. That’s my real jam. Probs write more about that later. 2. I am a wife. We got married nearly 6 months ago, which is both a notably short period of time, but also AWESOME that we’re already this far into this neat thing called marriage. Lately, D and I have been carpooling to work this summer because we’ve both had jobs in the same city (most days - I work between a few different hospitals). This is something that has just warmed my heart because it’s short-lived and it’s a cute little time in the morning where we listen to talk radio and give each other often-needed pep talks, and in the afternoon we share stories about our funniest students and most interesting patients. It’s good quality time.
After work today we headed out to pick up our new glasses. We went for eye exams on Saturday, and I found out I needed glasses and D found out that he needed a new prescription. Turns out, the world is a lot more interesting with glasses. I had a bit of a time walking around and analyzing tree bark and making sure I wasn’t walking into things. When we got home, we made spaghetti with beef from D’s brother’s farm with lots of garlic and red wine and balsamic and fresh parmesan on top and oooooooh man. We are both big pasta lovers. Too good. ANYWAY, I’m gonna give these ol’ eyes a rest...it’s super weird reading on a computer, and I’ll be in front of one all day again tomorrow...! :) Peas and love and all the happy things.
