Just saw a post asking how tall people are and now I want to make it a poll. Apologies to people in the fringe height categories, you do not get specifics.
I had to consult a chart for this

Chrysler Valiant Charger R/T E49, 1972. The Charger was an instant hit with the Australian market, based on a short wheelbase version of the Valiant VH platform. Only 149 E49 versions were made powered by a triple Webber carburettor version of Chrysler's 265ci (4.3 litre) straight 6 that pushed out 302hp. It was the fastest accelerating Australian muscle car of its time

Maybe this is common knowledge, but despite being a life-long LMM fan - and Rilla being one of my all-time favorite books - I only just found this out this year!! But in the 1940s, Rilla was edited and almost every edition since then - including editions claiming to be "full and unabridged" - are, in fact, abridged! This includes my beloved Bantam paperbacks I grew up reading.
In 2010, a "restoration" text was published. Since I didn't know it existed, I didn't particularly look for it, but did just happen to end up buying a copy because I loved the cover and my old edition was wearing out. I'm attaching a photo that has a chapter list because of course I'm a nerd and read my old edition and the restored edition side-by-side. I can't promise I found EVERY missing bit, but I think I got most of it. Chapters with a check were unabridged, - is only a couple of words here or there, + is several sentences, and ++ is at least a paragraph, sometimes more.
The things they chose to edit kind of fascinated me, which is part of the reason I continued my side-by-side reading (for science). Supposedly it was to "remove anti-German text" (which seems like an odd thing to do in the 1940s...) but a lot of the things removed were just... random Susan speeches (maybe the editor didn't like Susan??). There were also several bits taken out that seemed important to me - like Anne telling Rilla about dying her hair, more details about Dog Monday, a longer passage in Rilla's journal about "keeping the faith" - it felt so arbitrary and unnecessary to remove literally anything that got cut, even the tiny bits that were potentially "offensive."
Anyway, getting rambly as usual, but I would encourage everyone to check and see if you are reading the edited or unedited version. The first place (that I found) where something had been removed is in Chapter 2, in a (long) paragraph describing Dog Monday. The paragraph starts, "Dog Monday was the Ingleside dog..." If your paragraph ends with, "Everybody at Ingleside was fond of him, even Susan" then you have the 1940s edition and I would strongly encourage you to try and find either the original or 2010 restored text. But if it goes on to say, "although his one unfortunate propensity of sneaking into the spare room and going to sleep on the bed tried her affection sorely" then you have the UNEDITED version (congratulations haha).
Rilla is one of my heart-books, and reading the restored text was actually rather fun, like a treasure hunt and also a tiny gift of getting to read some new bits of LMM's writing. I hope all of you love it!!
