Three of Wands - Mayrina 🥀
a short story for the @bg3tarotdeck
•·················•·················•
Mayrina wanted things back to the way they were.
When his contagious laughter filled their cozy home with even more warmth. The same space was too empty, drafty, and silent except for the calls of his name torn from Mayrina’s throat. She used to be able to just whisper and Conner would turn with a smile. It didn’t matter how tired he was, he would always look excited as if she’d cheered at the sight of him. Her heart did, every time.
When they were happy despite the hardship. Mayrina knew that accepting his proposal would mean working to survive, yet she couldn’t imagine doing anything but. She couldn’t fathom her life without him. Long days were entirely worth it when she had the love of her life by her side for every second of them. Connor could make any task enjoyable with just his presence. There were so many chores that went half-finished because they had become too entranced with each other to complete them. Thinking back on the day with all of the bubbles and laundry strewn across the house made her heart ache when it used to make her smile.
When they were inseparable. From that first day, Mayrina knew she had met her perfect match. Her soulmate. Only Connor could challenge her strong personality in a way that Mayrina actually adored because he not only mirrored her, but he balanced her. From that first push off the swing that surprised a laugh right out of her to all of the mischief they had gotten up to in their youth. The stolen flowers from Ma Grundy’s, the late nights under the stars by the creek, the rushed kisses before they got caught.
Mayrina missed their carefree days fiercely but growing into the life they built together was incomparable. She missed his warmth more. She missed their happiness. Her heart that had been so full of his love felt devoid then. Empty, drafty, silent. She was barren, frigid, but not noiseless. Her grief was unrestrained, constantly spilling out of her. Cries that tore through her like a scythe through the wheat. Weight of worry that threatened to crush her. But there was anger too–passion. She wanted Connor back.
Even when it was clear she’d never hear his laugh again, would never feel the warmth of his kiss, would never be held in her upset, Mayrina didn’t leave Connor’s side. They were still inseparable, even in death. The following days all blurred into one agonizing and ceaseless moment. She vaguely remembered her brothers trying to pry her from her husband, how they tried to reason with her. Mayrina wouldn’t hear it, couldn’t. She could not see a future without Connor. Not even the child she was carrying, his child, could free her mind from despair for even a second. The two of them were so scared in the first place.
When she first told Connor, his eyes went wide in fear she’d only seen once. A baby was more terrifying to him than two overprotective brothers and for good reason. There wasn’t just an entire life they would be responsible for, but one that would cost so much when they had so little. Mayrina spent so many nights worrying, trying to plan for a future when all she and Connor had to offer was love. Love couldn’t buy firewood or food. Love was only good for hanging on in desperation. It felt like that was all Mayrina knew without Connor: misery. It would be all her child knew without him. Mayrina needed Connor back.
Plans that never had the chance to be tangible changed shape. Mayrina found certainty with unfathomable strength she’d never thought she’d have again, but Connor had complimented her tenacity and promised things lost could be found. He inspired optimism just like he did in life and he would be happy that she found a ladder to climb out of despair. The wood was worn, knotted and uneven, but they were steps she could take. Her determination led her to town, to every rumor she could hear, to each whisper of wishes that made her heart feel capable of cheering again.
Hope took a strange form, an old woman with sympathetic concern in the bright blues of her wrinkled eyes. Auntie Ethel saw Mayrina’s heartbreak the same as anyone else, but she didn’t tell her to move on. She didn’t instruct Mayrina to do something unfathomable and continue life without her beloved husband. Mayrina couldn’t–she needed Connor by her side.
Auntie Ethel saw her overwhelming pain, was incredibly kind in the offer to soothe it, and promised she could reverse it. She assured Mayrina that bringing Connor back wasn’t impossible like her brothers had said. She told stories of resurrection and reunions at her own hands. The same ones that smoothed Mayrina’s hair as she cried in a different way for the first time in months. Not only did she have hope, she had certainty.
Yet everything in life and death came with a cost. All Auntie Ethel wanted in return for a miracle was the unborn life that couldn’t be considered the same. Mayrina still hesitated, as clearer eyes seemed to remind her that the baby was the last bit of Connor she had. Their home would be lost without his labor, her locket was sure to tarnish eventually and his handwriting would fade. All her cherished memories were tainted with sorrow of his loss and his body would keep rotting until it was nothing but dust.
Mayrina debated but Auntie Ethel made the deal incredibly stupid to refuse. She wanted to give the baby a better life than Mayrina could ever offer, even with Connor. A good life, as Auntie Ethel was living with her own shop and home, one with even more promise. The baby would be taught, learned in a way that her parents never were. If the child could learn magic, such a wonder opened even more opportunities.
Mayrina accepted the deal when she finally could envision a future. Nothing stopped her steps on solid ground.
Not the concern of her brothers. Demir and Johl meant well but they couldn’t understand grief. They had always been overly worried about Mayrina, but she had proved them wrong before.
Not the decay of her husband, Connor would be restored soon enough. She could throw her arms around him again, knowing he’d catch her momentum and match it instead of needing to be careful with his limbs as she set him in the wheelbarrow.
Not even the weight of death could stop her, she was strong. Mayrina could make the journey on her own because she knew at the end, she would have Connor back.
Their happiness was worth the hardship.
Connor had always said a destination could make the journey worth it. He used that phrase to convince Mayrina to rip her dresses and tear her shoes in pursuit of solitude in their youth and he was always right. The trip to the teahouse was a struggle but Mayrina was so close. She pushed herself and Connor along every worn and gnarled path, through every town in between, and finally to the edge of the sunlit wetlands.
She settled the legs of the wheelbarrow into the rocky ground but didn’t release the handles as she took in the view. It was beautiful, a scene Connor would love when he rose. The sun that had felt so harsh softened as it shimmered over the water. Mounds of greenery rose from the still blues, connected with paths of worn wood. The bridges grew moss and were barriers of growth for the tall grasses and flowers. Gorgeous purples and pinks were blooming highlights, not even dulled in the speckled shade of all the sturdy trees.
Their destination was shimmering, flourishing, full of life. Mayrina couldn’t help her sharp breath. She didn’t expect her home for the next few months to be so bright and promising. Sheep even grazed lazily, dotted across the earthy landscape like clouds. Proof that the sky was obtainable and all of her hope lied just down the hill. She only had one obstacle left, a bit of mud and a twisted root that interrupted half of the path. That was barely anything in comparison to what she’d been through.
Mayrina lifted Connor with ease. For the first time since he’d died, her heart didn’t feel vacant. It pounded with confidence and the hope filling the empty space resounded through her tired body. Giving her the momentum to continue steadily in her decisions and finish their journey. The ending was just a new beginning; his heart would soon match hers again.

Seven Of Pentacles - Popper 🎩
a short story for the @bg3tarotdeck
•·················•·················•
The Circus of the Last Days. An extraplanar circus that travels between many different planes of existence picking up an eclectic group of talented performers and rich traders with interesting goods from all walks of life (or death). All of the flourish is under the steady hand of ring-master, necromancer, Bringer of the Night, and self-proclaimed wine lover-extraordinaire, Lucretious.
The entire event is well-advertised and much anticipated. Not just by the patrons and the audiences they hope to thrill with their acts and offerings, but by the workers as well. Most of them pride themselves on their inclusion in such a wonderful exhibition but none quite like one of the smallest of them all.
Underneath a shabby looking tarp, strung up by frayed rope and barely shading a patch of trampled dirt, a kobold is looking to make his first legitimate sale. Surrounding him in varying states of decay are items he treasures and hopes to sell for high prices. He does have an eye for quality, if you are willing to set their origin aside…
Popper gots his own table!
Under the banners and next to the big stinks, he even gots shelves! It was pretty fancy, just what a true business lord needed. A fine space for all his treatos and shinies. He arranged them all neatly by size and smell, ready to be browsed by all the shoppers. Some of his goods still had the metallic bits of blood but soon he’d make lots of coins! He was just smelling his success!
He was so clever to have found the circus. He was the best finder. All of his specials, from the little bear to the swirly bottles, he’d found just lying next to snacks. Popper taste-tested each of them, to ensure quality, but that book the strange ones were sure to loves reminded him of tree bark. Not as tasty as the meat, but still a great find!
Sometimes others wanted his finds and Popper had to be tough! No discounts, no freebies. That wasn’t any way to do business and he had a reputation to make. Still, he felts bad. Little creatures just wanted snacks too… He gave them better treatos. More sui-, suit-, fitting treatos. Rats like cheese and big bald birds flew away when he threw them stale crackers. Popper swatted the flies though, there were too many of them and he didn’t much care for their buzz.
The circus didn’t have any bothersome bugs. It was nice or as Mama Lucretious put it: magnificent. The fancier words tangled Popper’s tongue but he tried. He practiced his sales pitch for his artisanal goods. They were certified… something. “Certified” was so hard to say that he forgot the rest of the phrase but he had more! His wares were special, one-of-a-kind, good! The best!
Soon the people would come, the lucky patrons everyone was getting ready for. The loud fiery man was polishing his shinies, which were not as fine as Popper’s. Mama Lucretious was clapping for the bone guys, cheering on their crumbly dances. The beasts were roaring, a better morning soundtrack than the noisy bard. The wild rumbles were very exciting! Kids were sure to love them! Everyone would love the circus! Just as much as Popper did.
It was a family, like Mama Lucretious said. A close one. A kind one. They all welcomed Popper and appreciated him much more than other stupid businesses. Those called him a liar, saids his goods were “stolen.” Like Popper would ever be a sneaks, no way.  But the circus family wasn’t like them. They complimented his “savvy scavenging.” It was clever, he always agreed with eager nods. Just that morning, the wrapped one pointed at him and mumbled what had to be all nice words. Everyone had such nice words. Popper adjusted his necklace carefully, making that bone rattling sound that fits him right in. It was a big day, his first real day! He had his table, his shelves, his… The fancy word he was taught got lost but he found it with a click of his claws. Opulent! His opulent goods. He could use a snack and the wrist holding a shiny bracelet was tempting but he didn’t even lick it. It had to be ready for sales. He was very ready for sales!
Popper had just the thing to hold all of the coins he was going to make. He had found the big jar without even a crack and he set it down on his table very carefully. With a couple of adjustments to catchs the sunlight and a little tighten of its bow, Popper deemed it perfect and glanced at the gates. They should open them soon.
Not soon enough… Popper was tired of waiting. His heels were getting sore from bouncing in the dirt. He ran his paw over his head with a sigh and realized he’d forgotten something else!
With a scurry, he rushed back behind the scenes, where only the circus family could go, to his wonderful stash. Popper was so glad to have remembered his hat in time. It was his favorite find. Just the thing to make him look like a proper business lord, he’d found it on a business peasant anyway. He would be even better, he was going to be the best! He set his hat just right between his horns as his jaws pulled up. His tail swayed wide as he skipped back to his stall.
Popper really gots his own stall!

Queen of Wands - Auntie Ethel 👑
a short story for the @bg3tarotdeck
•·················•·················•
There was promise on the horizon and a sense of misfortune in the air.
Atop what would appear as a walking stick for a poor old woman sat the skull of Ethel’s dearest Lefney. She wished to be reunited with her lover and Auntie graciously found the tiefling woman for her, in delectable pieces. Unfortunately for Lefney, and to Auntie’s sheer delight, the task took much longer than expected. Time prolonged her desperation and her reaction to success. The brat had the gall to be disgusted by what was returned to her, refusing to believe the truth at the horns presented to her in wrinkled hands. Oh well. Ethel had cackled right into that precious, pleading face. All of Lefney’s immense longing remained but was wonderfully tainted with the sight of death. With a carefully worded promise meant to spark a bountiful source of hope, Ethel bound the lovers together for eternity. One with an endlessly bleeding heart, despite missing the organ. The other stuck in perpetual yearning while simultaneously radiating a nauseating aura at their combined fate. It was simply magnificent, a very fine staff.
Emotions that lingered beyond death were powerful, and delicious. Misery was the best flavor and with so many ways to extract the essence, Ethel was set for a very long life. Folk were so weak, especially for love, taking advantage of them was incredibly easy. Ethel could charm them in her sleep yet preferred to be awake. She appreciated when they spouted their gratitude and praise. They could be so bad-mannered and as a supreme and ancient being, Ethel deserved much more respect than even the most thankful gave her. She deserved reverence. The very ground she walked across should worship her, but trampling across those who begged was just as nice.
Of course, Auntie Ethel was happy to provide her services to the unfortunate. There were so many in need of potions, lotions, and tiny amounts of magic from the near infinite well inside of her. Even with some stored and stashed away in case of emergency, Ethel was powerful. More prevailing than any mortals could ever truly comprehend. Her aptitude in bargaining ensured it, she fed so well on their expectations and their agony. Yet she’d always take a bit of assistance. Humankind provided it all the time, they were their own worst enemies, but her sister owed her.
For a letter detailing some promising hardship to take advantage of, Ethel had found Margot a delicious, desperate trader and sent him in the direction of Baldur’s Gate. Informing Ethel about rumors of discourse between tieflings and druids was the least the sea hag could provide for such a treat. Ethel could have kept him for herself, perhaps should have. The walk to the Emerald Grove was taxing in human form but the newest lair in the most putrid swamp was quite pleasant and worth the distance. With a bit of illusion, the gnarled roots and stale waters would look like the most inviting sunlight wetlands. A beautiful refuge that would certainly attract visitors in such tumultuous wilderness.
In the first town, an aura of destruction was an indulgence to walk through. Ethel felt the despair fill her veins like the most delightful refreshment. One of the poor dears she passed was still alive. She answered their sobbed plea with petrification. She stopped their agony as requested, little to their insignificant knowledge that pain would permeate through the stone and provide a little boost to her step. Ethel was already sprightly for an old woman, ahead of her was a plethora of life as she left death in her footsteps.
Just over the hill was a stone bridge and atop the low, crumbling railing sat a man with a downtrodden expression. He was hiding from the harsh sun underneath a tattered and floppy hat, seeking relief from either traveling or perhaps something deeper. Ethel could smell the obvious discomfort on him and didn’t miss the way he rubbed at his ankle. Magic lingered under his palm, bits of the Weave were infecting his lingering wound. She had just the thing, she always did.
Ethel approached the bridge with squared shoulders, despite a hunched posture. When she got closer to the man, she could taste his anguish on her tongue. It was bitter, pungent, rotten and as delicious to her as a freshly baked treacle tart with honey was to a human. She crouched on creaking knees, leaning to see his face pale as a ghost.
“Oh, petal,” she cooed softly as to not frighten him, although a jolt of surprise would have been nice. “Are you quite alright there, love?”
The man didn’t even look up, he was too focused on soothing his pain with useless rubs of his palm. “Just a bit of lingering pain from a bite... Damn dogs on the road...”
“Are you sure it was just a dog? Sometimes there's gnolls in the woods. Their bites can linger… And infect.” She tried to contain her excitement and brought her satchel around to the front. The bottles inside rattled like a tantalizing chime, drawing the man’s attention away from his wound to her. Right where she wanted it. “I had a young lady who was so unlucky to come across a ghastly pack of them, but I fixed her right up! I can help you, sweetness. I have just the thing.”
At her promise, the man looked up higher in the shadow of his hat. He tilted it back with his hand, getting a better look at her as he blinked against the sunlight. Folk could be so distrustful too but it was easy to sway them when they were in pain. He searched her eyes as she had more promises and anecdotes ready on her salivating tongue.
“I was just on my way to set up shop, got all my best potions and lotions in this here bag-”
“You...” He said with a whisper of recognition he shouldn’t have had. “You... Something’s not right with you.”
Ethel dismissed his doubt with a flap of her hand. “Oh petal, that’s just the pain making your head all foggy. Here, let me help,”
The man stood abruptly when she reached for him. “No, no. This charm, I really didn’t think it would work but you, you- you’re not right. It’s vibrating like he said it would. He knew there were hags out here. You’re a hag!”
“Oh, come now.” Ethel rolled her eyes as fear started to radiate off of him in waves. “That’s just ridiculous, love. You shouldn’t go around accusing old women, they may not take kindly to it.”
The threat woven into her words went unnoticed in his panic and the annoying man backed away from her with wide eyes. He was struggling to put weight on his ankle, looking even more pathetic as he pointed one shaking finger in Ethel’s direction. “You’re hideous! Like they say! Stay away from me, hag! I have to warn them-”
“Hideous?” Ethel asked with a hiss as she glanced at their empty surroundings.
There wasn’t another soul around to witness the punishment this ungrateful little shite was going to receive for being so rude. She shook the illusion from her shoulders, the human disguise fell away in glittering green. Not just from her true form, which was beautiful in its growth and age, but from the staff as well. Her power collided in the air with his fear and started to consume it, gathering in the worn wood under her palm.
“You have the gall to insult me?” She asked, her throat croaking out the words that sent the man falling on his arse. “I’ll rip those eyes right out of your head and squeeze them into my stew!”
“I’ll tell everyone!” He threatened as he scrambled back, tearing his palms on the sharp stone as he dragged himself away from each slow step Ethel took forward. “I’ll warn all of Waukeen’s Rest and tell them to spread the word!”
“You won’t be doing anything but screaming, love.”
Her cackle rang in the fresh air as the stone cracked with summoned roots. Crooked and quick they shot from the ground, wrapping around his wound first and forcing out the sweetest scream.
“I’ll leave you to rot on the vine! Your blood will make a fine wine.”
Prolonging his agony was sure to enhance the taste. It was what he deserved for even considering crossing her. For being foolish enough to threaten her with exposure, for being thankless. Yet not entirely worthless, his misery would only grow her power causing it.
Ethel demanded the respect she was owed, even without a bargain to assist her in gaining favor. She was above being bound to words like the rest of the fey folk. She didn’t have to keep deals, she didn’t have to do anything that didn’t appease her appetite. She was above them all.
She was a hag, a proud one.

We asked Kyoko Uryu for secrets about the production of the OVA!
--It's been just about 4 years from when the first season was aired on TV, and the OVA is going to be shown in theaters soon. How did you determine how production would go?
While we were making the first season, people would often say things like "I'd like to do this type of thing in season 2" so there was a strong desire to continue in the production team. So it was determined we'd make a season 2 very soon after we saw the reaction to season one. However, since it's an original anime without a work to base it off of, and the staff had plans to work on other projects, we figured it would take a while to make another season. We decided to produce an OVA before the second season, as we wanted to deliver something new in the meantime, and also as a gift to express our gratitude to the fans who would be waiting for a long time. That ended up taking quite a while too though......(sweat). Thank you so much for waiting......!
--Uryuu-san, please tell us your favorite part of the OVA, that's an "Omnibus story about their everyday lives"
We wanted to make something we couldn't do in the series, and we wanted to make it something that us as the staff would also want to see, so this is an episode we made from all of our ideas. I can't say much about the content yet because it would be spoilers, but I can tell you now that my personal favorite point is the theme song! Not only is it sung by Reki and Langa, the lyrics that Utsumi-san helped produce are amazing, so please listen to the full version on the OVA bonus CD!
--In the commercial currently available, we see Sakurayashiki and Nanjo in their highschool days. Was the part set in the past something you came up with after it was decided there would be an OVA?
Well, we had decided that they've been "frenemies since childhood" before this, but we started from wondering how these two would have been during their school days if they fight like children even as adults..... That's how we went about creating this story. We hope you enjoy seeing their former daily lives(?) that we aren't really able to depict in the main series.
--If there's a character that your impression of has changed, or you've found a new appeal because of the OVA, please tell us!
Kikuchi! Kikuchi is a mysterious character by nature, but I think you'll see a side of him that's completely different from the image you have of him from the TV series.
--Other than the second season that's already being made, there have been various collaborations and pilgrimage tours held for this series that's been loved for a long time. Is there anything that you personally want to see happen for SK8, Uryuu-san?
I feel like the fans of SK8 have a deep love for this series, so if I ever have the change, I'd like to have a tea party or something like that to talk with the fans about the series. I'll never forget about how enthusiastic the fans were at the talk event held during the pilgrimage tour last year (lol). Other than that, I'd like to be able to have a Canada episode someday and be able to hold a Canada pilgrimage tour...... of course before that I'd like to go to Canada with Utsumi-san for location scouting!
--Finally, please give a message to everyone waiting for the OVA to go one sale and the theater screening!
Thank you so much for waiting 4 whole years.
The OVA is made for the fans who are overflowing with love for SK8, and I think it's packed full of rich content for them so please look forward to it!
The limited time theater screening will of course contain the OVA itself, but we also plan to deliver specially edited footage from the first season so that everyone in the theater can enjoy it together, as well as behind-the-scenes talks with the cast and director. There will be footage only shown in the theater so I hope everyone will enjoy it together before the OVA comes out. The OVA packaging will be just as elaborate, if not more than, the series packaging, so we hope you'll pick it up and watch it over and over again!

Pash Utsumi Hiroko Interview
It's sure to be a heartwarming, Fan & Fun experience!
It's about the moments you weren't able to see in the main series.
--Looking back at the scenario meetings, is there anything that stands out in your memory?
Like the fact that there was a longer version where (series writer) Ookouchi Ichirou, the producers, and I all came up with ideas for what to do in the OVA and decided on it, only to realize it didn't fit into the time limit plan I came up with myself and so it was rejected (laughs). Of course Reki and Langa are the main characters so they're going to appear in the OVA but we really wanted to include them all... and that would be difficult to do in one story so we made it into an omnibus format.
--What do you want people to pay attention to in this OVA?
I'd like it if you could check which scenes were shown in the PV. For example, Reki and the others play karuta, but what kind of karuta is it? Who's playing against who? Will Langa, who is bad at reading and writing, be okay?! In the part with Sakurayashiki and Nanjo set in the past, what was their high school life like? What were their fights like back then? How developed are Nanjo's muscles?! Also, the unknown life of Kikuchi, which was kept top-secret in the main story, is revealed...!?! And more!
--Please tell us about what you remember when looking back on recording the voices for this OVA.
I was happy to see that Hatanaka Tasuku-san, who plays Reki, and Kobayashi Chiaki-san, who plays Langa, were still the same Reki and Langa even though several years had passed. I didn't feel any time had past... ∞(eternal) Friendship! It was also memorable how Koyasu Takehito-san, who plays Ainosuke, struggled with a certain scene. Look forward to finding out which scene it was! It had been a while since I last did the voice recording for SK8, and it brought back memories for me, making me feel like SK8 was back!
--What exactly is the theme for this OVA...?
Since it is an omnibus format, there is no overall theme, but they're each filling a gap that wasn't able to be seen in the main story.
--In order to get to know the characters more deeply before the OVA is released, are there any behind-the-scenes details that you haven't revealed yet (that you couldn't show in the first season of the TV series)?
The different headband Reki is wearing in the OVA PV is a souvenir present from his sister Koyomi. It's shaped like an akabeko with a tiger pattern... it's quite unique. Reki only wears it at home. Langa doesn't care about clothes, so he'll wear anything that's comfortable to move in, so he's wearing something strange this time. Please check out the OVA to find out the details☆
--For those who are rewatching the first season of the TV series, what are some of the points you would like people to pay special attention to?
Don't miss anything! The relationship between MIYA and Reki, the outcome of Hiromi's fleeting love, the current fight scenes between Sakurayashiki and Nanjo, the vibe of the master and dog relationship between Ainosuke and Kikuchi, etc. The bond between Reki and Langa through the whole series and how it develops into friendship, keeps your eyes peeled on it till the very end!! And since the theme song for this OVA was created with the TV series in mind, so I'm certain it will improve your understanding if you watch the whole series and think of it while listening to it☆
--Finally, please give a message to the fans of "SK8".
We're sorry to have kept you waiting for so long, but thanks to everyone who has been waiting that the day we can finally deliver it to you is fast approaching...! There's only a few more sleeps till the OVA is here ♬ How about going to the cinema to watch "SK8 EXTRAPART" as the finale to your New Year's celebrations? It's sure to be a heartwarming, Fan & Fun experience! Please look forward to its release☆

Say My Name (i dance with you) - Side Story
Post In Universe Canon Drabble - 3.3k words - Rated M - A Crossover with X to Doubt (A Coach Reki Story) by @thicckennugget69
________♡________
It was anything but professional and Reki was pretty sure that’s exactly what he loved about it.
The event was a mad dash that left him with more splinters than he could count, a disgusting amount of knowledge about concrete, and the urge to strangle all of his best friends. He wrapped his arms around as many of them as he could manage, grabbing Claudio from his always close proximity and shoving him into the sweat part of blood, sweat and tears.
Yun kept her distance from a soaked shirt with one hand on Reki’s chest and a bark of a laugh. “You finally hit that switch, dude?”
“Yes.” Reki confirmed with a laugh that felt so good to leave his lungs. Like a relieved exhale as he hit that switch. From absolute panic to massive excitement.
Langa pressed a kiss to his damp hair before he decided a fight against Claudio for holding around Reki’s stomach wasn’t worth it. “Only you’d be able to pull this off.”
“Uh excuse you bestie? You forgetting someone?” Kendrick asked with a raise of his eyes from the tablet in his hands. “I’m offended, Langa. It’s clearly Hana’s organization that got us to where we are.”
“Certainly not Reki’s hard work.” She teased with a bright grin from the desk she’d been calling an office the past month. The only furniture left in the space they’d completely transformed. “You all pitched in.”
“Yes but this hot piece of ass-” Claudio almost emphasized his point but Reki shoved him away before his ass could be touched. “Is the mastermind! Let me love you!”
Reki squeaked and didn’t even consider using Yun as a shield. “No, I changed my mind about loving you. Get away, I need to shower!”
“Hate to break it to you, but cutting it close was really close..” She snorted as Reki ran around her to his husband instead.
“I have five minutes.” He grabbed Langa’s hand and pulled him towards the RV they and their dog had called home for two months without looking back at the abandoned lot they’d completely transformed into the dopest park in that same amount of time.
Langa’s smirk was visible without even looking at it. “Better make it ten.”
Jokes on him, Reki had no time for the quickie that Langa was hoping for in their poor excuse for a shower. It was obvious that the stomach knotting panic had soothed when the sign went up, but he was still incredibly nervous. He needed all of the kisses to his cheeks as he blinded Langa with shampoo and each and every touch while he got dressed in unstained clothes that had become traditional in the Olympics.
Nothing made him as confident as Langa’s embraces did. His love and adoration were the encouragement Reki needed for every avenue of his life. Professionally skating, content creation, inaugural event organization. The Bluntslide Company started as just a dumb idea thrown out around a bonfire in the towering forests of the Pacific Northwest but it’d turned into something insane literally overnight. A group of extroverts had the connections and the ridiculousness to make their own wildest dreams come true and that day was the true beginning.
The competition series they wanted to host had gone through so many iterations but they ended at almost the opposite from where they started. They didn’t want an audience, they wanted a party that was still inclusive. So starting from submissions on social media and continuing on an invite, everyone was ending at a secret location. Hana and Reki had scouted the literal globe for somewhere suitable for a temporary installation that would make for the coolest venue.
They had sponsors but they were all local. Little restaurants that were starting to set up trucks in the make-shift parking lot. Any sports shop within the vicinity that wanted to sell gear, just in case. Eighth Gear had a booth that Hana and Reki had no time to keep track of but he had employees now. Which was weird but the one to travel from Japan when the family came a few days ago, Li, was awesome. Reki stopped by the tent to make sure she was good before things started getting crazy. He had a really hard time imagining people would really want to buy the things he was selling. The blueprint to the whole park was blown up on fabric behind her bright smile and available as a print that’d even signed. Which was also weird. Cool, but weird.
Add park architect to the massive amount of job titles he wore, like Langa wore sponsorships. The only one he was in that day was an Eighth Gear shirt. A special design for the only skaters under the label. The messy yet beautiful smash together of a gear and a snowflake Reki had made as a post-wedding present. Langa looked stunning in black, wet hair being pushed back by his hand and he gave Reki a smile that was meant for him and one that meant the whole entire world.
It was hard to tear his eyes from as they got to what would shortly be the gates but Reki had to give the space one more glance before it was full of talent. Haakon ran past them in a flurry of fluff into what started as an abandoned house in the middle of nowhere had turned into a massive park. The inside had been transformed by Reki’s two hands and a hired construction company to make sure it was all up to safety standards while allowing it to be ridiculous. He’d taken the collapsed wall completely off and connected the first and second floor with ramps that led from the wooden fixtures inside to the concrete ones outside. Bowls, banks, boxes. An outdoor race track that went through an old barn they made into a warehouse and some moved dirt to extend the event from skating and bmx to motocross too.
So maybe they were running for the X-Game’s title, eventually. And maybe the whole venture took a massive amount of money that rich and successful friends had helped pay for. Maybe they'd earn a good amount of it back if preliminary sales were anything to write home about. They were. Reki had actually called his mom to tell her. She was less than happy about his temporary move to America but it was kinda the middle ground of his connections.
More of them arrived in the only fashion they were capable of, chaos. They fit right in.
“Oi!”
Cori was the first one out of the van that held all of his beloveds. The sliding door was ripped open right as it arrived nowhere near where it was supposed to. Hai was driving, so knowing them it’d get moved to the proper spot not blocking the entrance. He could see Casper in the front seat with the biggest grin and his hair probably smashed against the low ceiling. AJ was in the back, presumably giggling at Cori slipping in her rushed exit of a moving vehicle. Esk looked like if he had to last a second longer in the car with them, the whole thing would spontaneously combust.
Reki beamed before he was collided with in a flurry of bright. Tackling was a universal love language, apparently. He was so glad to hit the ground when a friend caused the quick descent. Less happy when more weight was added before he could even open his eyes from getting the wind knocked out of him.
“Did you miss us, Reki?”
“Yes, he did.” Langa answered Cas’s question for Reki as his mouth was occupied spitting out Cori’s fiery hair. “Hasn’t stopped trying to plan a vacation to England.”
Reki giggled as his chest nearly collapsed from Cori pushing herself off of him and knocking Cas off her back at the same time. Once he could breathe, he was helped off the ground almost too well. He had to get caught by Langa with two hands to his hips to stop him from falling right back forward. “I don’t know why you’re so against visiting friends. Do you not want to recreate a viral video years later?”
Langa’s pout was cute and to be fair, London could have gone so much better for them. It was all the more reason to go back. Just like how Reki wanted to go back to Madrid one day. Sure, his travel itch was mostly because he’d become something like addicted to it with all the trips for work but he didn’t want to let all those places hold bad memories. Not when they had a whole life of good ones ahead of them.
“Is that my lover?!” Claudio nearly squealed from somewhere behind them.
Reki grimaced in advance at the absolutely disgusting amount of affection that would happen at the moment the two weirdos were reunited. He didn’t want to run away from AJ, so he did his best to ignore the onslaught of compliments his best friend had for Casper. Reki was thankful for the reprieve of clinginess in Paris and Hawaii, he was just wondering how the hell Claudio still thought he was straight but it was not Reki’s place to say anything. He just felt a little more for Miya for all he’d put up with. It was too similar.. Claudio had posters of Cas too…
“Hi!” AJ was stuck with all of their gear but was actually helping get it out of the boot.
“Hey,” Reki’s grin was still wide but his excitement was a little more reigned in. He wanted to squeeze the sweet girl but he figured helping Hai get the bikes off was a little more important. “How was the drive? Not too bad I hope.”
“Awful.” Esk scoffed and set a cigarette between lips as he rounded the car with stiff grace, presumably from the long drive. There was probably an eye roll under his dark glasses. “Two morons decided to embrace ‘Americana.’”
“What’d they do?” Reki asked with a very delighted snicker.
Hai huffed a laugh that sounded just as exhausted as they looked. Reki knew jet lag so well and he had so much empathy for the bags under their eyes. “Cas was lucky that traffic was bad and I’m not used to driving on the wrong side of the road..”
“I’m never forgiving you for not stopping it before the third play through.”
AJ smiled softly and slung a backpack over her shoulder. “They thought we were driving in Virginia for whatever reason..”
“They felt it necessary to sing Take Me Home Country Roads by John Denver an abhorrent number of times.”
Reki didn’t understand in the slightest but thankfully Esk was quick to explain a little bit in his sharp sarcasm.
“It’s a cute little country song, the first time I heard it, presumably in the womb. Anything since is grating to the senses. Especially belted in the wrong state, not even remotely close to the lyrics. It’s West Virginia.”
“We are definitely in Illinois.” Reki said with a sheepish laugh, not admitting he probably would have had just as bad of a time with geography if he didn’t plan the whole thing. He definitely didn’t think Chicago was the name of the state for a while. Nope.
“And thank god we have a hotel in a large metropolitan city and we aren’t stuck in a car in the middle of nowhere.”
As Esk walked off, Reki met AJ’s muffled giggle with a smile that was more of a grimace. “He hates it less than he acts.”
“Good, I would hate to tell Nanako that he had a bad time.”
“Oh! How is she?” AJ perked up even further. “Langa has the sweetest mom,”
“She really is.” Reki could profess his love for his mother and father in law until he ran out of breath. Just like he could their son.
They got caught up on all things super-ice skating-fan Nanako (who had lost her mind meeting the famous pair at the Olympics) while they got the bikes off the car with Hai. Kendrick had redirected Cori and Cas back to get their own stuff, thankfully. Riding a bike wasn’t exactly like riding a bike when it came to bmx and Reki was glad to not have to walk awkwardly around trying to hold the handles.
“Cheers.” Cas grabbed the bike as Reki would grab his own skateboard. “I’m taking it off the roof-”
Cori agreed immediately with an animated nod and a grin as AJ put a helmet on her wild hair.
“Wait,” Hai didn’t look shocked in the slightest, but still tried to reign them in. “Are we sure we are making good choices here? That’s two stories-”
“Don’t worry, it’s accounted for. Off the rear,” Reki said with a point to the slope he’d made sure to connect with a jump to the nearby pavilion. And also the bowl, but he wouldn’t tell them that. They’d figure it out.
“Oh yeah!” Cori saw the dangerous route with a sparkle that was all too familiar.
It wasn’t just their recklessness that Reki had planned for. Langa’s too. Anyone who else wanted to feel like they were flying. Half the fun of the build was coming up with spots to use creatively. It’s why he chose a house and barn, not a flat piece of land. Also why included more than just fixtures. The whole thing was street themed while encouraging big park tricks. The only thing that was missing from his backyard fun was the grunge that the city had but Reki had a plan for that.
He herded AJ and Hai inside the gates without giving them a chance to move the van. Right past the fence, the family was standing around and pleasantries were exchanged. The dads regarded the group much like they did the announcers. Joe with a huge smile and all the hugs and love. Cherry with the attitude despite having fondness, but he acted like it was reserved for solely Esk. They were making their way away from the chaos of reunions. Miya loved them all, he’d never say it but he was busy with Hana setting up registration anyway.
Everyone there already knew his plan and surely Kendrick had told Cori and Cas. Shadow was just distracting them with the collection of fireworks for when the sun went down. Those permits were such a nightmare that Reki almost felt the lingering stress if it wasn’t for the excitement he had holding Langa’s hand as he dragged him and their friends over to Tess.
She had a smile for the new arrivals, one as warm as she did their own group. “Hey guys, did you all get in okay?”
“Really glad we came early.” Hai said as they ran their fingers over the first line of spray paint on the table in front of her. There was every color possible, more to come as Tess was still setting up, and Reki was quick to explain as he grabbed blue for the beautiful man in his hand.
“So, the whole idea is to decorate it. We asked you guys to make sure to get here before it starts so you can sign with the rest of us.”
“We are signing it?” AJ said with a tilt of her head, sending her pretty blonde hair in a sway.
“Everyone is signing.” Reki smiled. “Everyone who was a part of making it happen.”
He brought out his phone as she and Hai grabbed their favorite colors, beyond excited to make the last update now that everyone he loved so dearly was there.

Regularly.Reki
[Video Description: It begins on Reki’s wide grin and pans to Langa softly smiling at Reki, not the camera. He and Langa are wearing shirts that match and connect when they stand side-by-side forming Eighth Gear’s logo. As the view changes to the rear camera, Reki explains that they are putting on the finishing touches right before the event starts. He talks about how he was working until the last minute as a large concrete wall comes into frame. It’s set between two in ground bowls and covered in a myriad of colors. Every single signature is different. Some elegant in script, others splattered with paint. The view gets closer and he showcases each name while he reads them all off. Hana, Claudio, Kendrick, Tess, Yun, Yuki, Akane, Joe, Cherry, Shadow, Miya, Cori, Cas, AJ, Esk and Hai. The last two names to be added are Reki and Langa as someone takes the camera so they can sign at the same time. When they turn around with matching big smiles, everyone named comes in like two opposing tidal waves to crush the two men in the middle in a massive group hug.]
MY LOVES. MY FAMILY. THE FUTURE! ٩(♡ᗜ♡*)و
Cheers to the first Bluntslide Event starting NOW!

Regularly.Reki
[Video Description: Reki is teaching two unenthused people a dance. Tess and Langa watch him spell out a word, or three, with his arms over his head. The only audio is him saying the letters out loud as he does the same motions again, a little slower. A gaggle of snickering happens when Tess and Langa exchange a look of uncertainty before a pop song starts with a countdown. During the electronic and upbeat music, a bunch of clips from the event play, showing skating and bmx mostly. When the lyrics start, Reki is lip singing them very enthusiastically to Langa as they stand in a crowd of skaters. At the part about dancing, he grabs Langa’s hips and he sways their bodies together. The laugh Langa barks isn’t audible, but it's obvious. The clip cuts to Yuki and Yun doing the next part of the dance. It’s sexy and in the background of their clip Akane is trying to hide from the camera behind Shadow, who looks like he's trying not to dance as his boot taps on the wood below him. The next clip is a repeat of the dance, done far more silly, by Joe as Cherry has his head in his hands in disappointment. At the chorus, the announcers are all together with Tess and Langa doing the choreography with varying levels of excitement, but mostly bouncing. The next refrain is sung by Cori to AJ surrounded by their friends. Both of them are blushing but Cori’s still giving it her all. At the part about touching, Cas reaches for Esk with a shit-eating grin only to be pushed away so far he falls out of frame, presumably into the bowl in front of them. The song continues with Kendrick and Claudio snapping and clapping and touching their toes. It cuts to Hana and Miya shaking their heads in adamant denial. There’s a quick pan to Hai who's also shaking their head with a smile. They put their hand in front of the lens as a perfect transition to an even larger group spelling out the words with their hands. They all look to be participants of the competition gathered by the signature wall. It transitions into more quick clips of tricks from the event but at the final chorus - Everyone who signed the wall is dancing with excitement. Some people are missing letters or getting confused but everyone is trying their best. They all get it by the end of the third time. Reki is acting out the spoken words at the end of the song in the middle of the group, asking Langa to come home with him. The last time he says “it’s hot”, everyone around them starts throwing water from bottles so wildly, drops hit the camera lens and blurs the ending.]
If I say this is the best weekend of my life..
I would be lying cause that was obviously my wedding, but shhh.
