Liptember

Did you know that we are currently in Liptember? Not sure what it is? It's an amazing initiative to raise funds for mental health issues that predominantly affect women, through super stylish means! Basically, it's all about having fun with beauty, with the month challenging women to purchase Official Liptember lippy shades from Chemist Warehouse, My Chemist or My Beauty Spot. Then you just need to get your friends, family or colleagues to sponsor you to wear the lippy for the whole month and raise funds for mental health research and support. Liptember partners and beneficiaries are the Centre for Women's Mental Health and Lifeline. Why not pucker up for this important cause?

BEAUTY FOR A CAUSE

Jurlique has long been celebrated as one of the best natural beauty brands around, but now it shows us its strong social conscience. Releasing their second deluxe, limited edition face mist through their Ideas for Beauty Fund, Jurlique are launching the product to support the Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience (AIME). The fund itself was formed in 2012 and partnered with AIME, a program that provides mentorship to Indigenous students in an effort to encourage greater rates of high school graduation. In 2012, the collaboration raised over $100,000 for this important cause and here's hoping 2013 is just as successful!

COFFEE & CLOONEY

Nespresso famously brought Clooney & coffee together, but now they seem to have greener ideals. They recently pledged to buy more coffee from sustainable plantations in Africa and have announced a sustainability panel, to advise on future initiatives. The panel includes the Rainforest Alliance, Fairtrade International & the man of the hour himself. Part of their immediate plans include reviving a high quality coffee plantation in South Sudan, as well as working toward providing healthcare and retirement plans for farmers. Great to see Nespresso stepping up the sustainability stakes!

NZ women feature in Dove campaign

Kiwi Women are embracing Dove's 'Real Women' campaign, with four NZ women chosen to front the new campaign. The idea behind 'Real Women' is to portray a realistic image of women in advertising, without airbrushing (similar to the recent Trilogy 100% unretouched initiative!). Although the campaign itself has been around since 2004, this is the first time NZ women have been featured. Dove also invited New Zealand women to discover the ‘Dove Difference’ and enlisted more than 250 Kiwis to trial various Dove Haircare products. The campaign went live yesterday so keep your eyes peeled NZ!

LILY COLE JEWELLERY COLLECTION

It was only a few weeks ago that well known model turned actress Lily Cole, launched a social initiative, encouraging people to share their services for free. She continues her good work with a new jewellery line, supporting rainforest conservation. A collaboration between Cole, fashion website StylistPick and Sky Rainforest Rescue, the new line is made from natural Amazonian rubber. Lily says, "One of the reasons I was excited to join this campaign was to explore the rubber industry as a vehicle for green economics, which, if scaled, I see as offering real hope to the rainforest. Visiting the rubber tappers and their families really inspired me and I wanted to find a way to bring their story back to the UK."

TRILOGY UNRETOUCHED CAMPAIGN

If you have seen the hashtag #filterfreefriday on Instagram recently, here's the reason why! Natural Skincare brand Trilogy and beauty buff Zoe Foster Blake, are encouraging women to share unretouched photos of themselves on social media, to celebrate their natural beauty. The campaign comes in response to new research that shows 79% of women admit to retouching their images before letting their friends or social media networks see them. Visit the Facebook App to get more information on how to get involved in this exciting beauty buzz.

WEEKEND INSPIRATION
This lovely long weekend, we are inspired by this one off upcycled collection by H&M and Beckhams School of Design, Sweden. The collaboration came about to raise awareness of sustainability and the power of upcyling, with all proceeds from the sale of the items going to support UNICEF.

We haven't done a Peppermint Post for a while, but that doesn't mean their blog hasn't been buzzing with all the latest, up to the minute conscious style news! My latest contributions include posts on Oxfam's campaign to go 'behind the brands' and teach consumers more about the ethical and environmental record of the world's major food companies, the stylish new partnership between TOMS and Charlize Theron to raise money for HIV prevention programs in Africa and renewed calls here in Australia to end cosmetic cruelty, in response to the EU banning the sale of newly animal tested cosmetics from March 11. Keep your eye on the Peppermint Magazine blog as they have new stories daily!

MILA KUNIS SUPPORTS ETHICAL GEMS

Celebrities seem to be throwing their support behind all things ethical and eco minded at the moment and Ashton Kutcher's main squeeze, Mila Kunis, is no exception. The bubbly brunette has fronted the advertising campaign of ethical gemstone brand Gemfields, who recently took her on a tour of their Zambian mine, where she learnt more about their environmental policies and visited some of their community sponsored programs. Gemfields claim to be the first mining operation to produce emeralds that are completely traceable from mine to market and also actively support environmental issues associated with the mining industry, like Elephant Corridors in India and conservation initiatives around the Kagem Mine in Zambia. Although they are the world's largest coloured gemstone producer, this is the first time they have engaged a global ambassador & it's great to see another Hollywood heavyweight throw their support behind ethical practice!
