I don't think it's fading. What if it's burning? When his hands strangle the victim, instead of cold keys of piano, maybe he feels the heat of a thousand degrees.

Understanding Criminal Law, Criminal Law: An Overview, 1.01 Nature of "Criminal Law"
So I started reading "Understanding Criminal Law" by Joshua Dressler. I will try to summarize each unit after I read as much as possible. Today we start with Chapter 1, Criminal Law: An Overview, 1.01 Nature of "Criminal Law". I just read it for fun and I don't take any classes so you are welcome to point out any mistakes!
Crime: "anything that lawmakers say is a crime" or
"an act or omission and its accompanying state of mind which, if duly(=appropriately) shown to have taken place, will incur(=become subject to) a formal and solemn pronouncement of the moral condemnation(=disapproval) of the community."
Civil Case: Dispute between individuals.
Criminal Case: Offenses against the state.
Because crime causes harm socially, criminals are prosecuted by public attorneys instead of people who are hired privately.
Classification of Crimes:
felony: "an offense punishable by death or imprisonment in a state prison."
misdemeanors: "maximum punishment is a monetary fine, incarceration in a local jail, or both"
The study of criminal law is not just study of crimes but study to determine "when a person is justly be held criminally responsible for the harm she has caused." In another word, it's 'Should this person be punished for having caused or assisted in causing this to occur?'.

‘Gary had tried to kill himself thirteen times, including one occasion where he drove his motorcycle head-on into a wall.’
‘Not long after his arrest he tried hanging himself in the shower of the prison with a T-shirt.’ - Cellar Girl
So many questions after reading the book.
Did Gary Heidnik kidnap women because he was depressed with his life and he wanted to do something that provoked him despite it crossing the line of public morality?
Gary Heidnik was clever. He tricked the military to get 100 percent disability pension. He knew how to act ‘mentally ill’ in order to stay in mental institute.
He was clever and wealthy. What was missing from his life?
It reminded me of the quote in Squid Game:
If you have too much money, then it doesn’t matter what you buy, or eat, or drink, or whatever. Everything, well, it all gets boring.
Was he bored because he was so clever that he could get whatever he wanted?
Did he really know how to satisfy psychiatrist or was he really mentally ill?

Quote
I thought I was going mad, I kept on looking in the mirror and trying to see it in my face. I had this horrible idea, I was mad, everyone else could see it, only I couldn't. I kept remembering how people in Lewes seemed to looked at me sometimes, like the people in that doctor's waiting-room. They all knew I was mad.

I don’t know where you can actually watch it but if you like thriller/horror/crime movies then this movie is a must watch! It’s called ‘Character’, and it’s a Japanese film.
Basically, the guy on the left is a serial killer. On the right of the serial killer is a manga writer and he gets inspired by one murder which was done by the serial killer. The killer becomes a fan of the writer and he starts killing exactly as in the manga. The killer also starts stalking the writer.
It’s full of twist and the ost is also amazing.
