All the pens i've used this year so far

i dunno why i started recording start and end dates for all my pens but i did - on the 8th of january 2025 and now 6 months later and here they are. clearly i ran out of january motivation cos theres a steep decline going on in the stats: pen stats: 1 - 3 days 2 - 5 days 3 - 15 days 4 - 18 days 5 - 15 days 6 - 20 days 7 - 33 days 8 - 41 days

07/02/25

just an hour or so ago i was like yeah im gonna read all these books yeah im gonna make a new issue for my zine after whatever like 2 years its been and then all of a sudden im having a crisis of purpose but we move and tonight i am reading so i want to write some book lists. i really want to know if anyone has read/likes/wants to read any of these because im really lacking people to talk to about books things i've read semi-recently that i liked a lot
the other side: a journey into women, art and the spirit world - jennifer higgie - loved it so much fave of the year so far by far 10/10 - every second was interesting, the sort of book i want to read 10 books on every topic that comes up, i think ill write a separate post about it soon
albert and the whale - phillip hoare - read this in october so a long time ago now but it was great - a similar sort of narrative-y non fiction that i love - borrowed from library but i think i want to buy it one day because it was such a trip and i need to reread to try and absorb it all
the power - naomi alderman - i dont remember when i read this one i dont know why but it was really good - stayed in my head
the women in the picture -catherine mccormack - a bit short if anything felt like each chapter couldve done with being a whole book - liked its links to pop culture + mythology + all sorts
why have there been no great women artists - linda nochlin - had to read it at some point given its referenced in the intro of every feminist art hist book ive read - didnt disappoint
books i am reading/are in my pile
closing the gender gap - madeleine arnot + miriam david + gaby weiner
jungle - patrick roberts
this dark country - rebecca birrell
seeing ourselves - frances borzello
the subversive stitch - rozsika parker
artemisia gentileschi - mary garrard
and many more as usual - although my list is never ending, book recs still appreciated

end of jan
very short review cos ive got no time or nice pictures did 143H 10 study time started off really strong first couple weeks and then burned out 2 weeks behind in art history but 2 weeks ahead in sociology so maybe we're good, i'm a little ahead in bio but its boggling my brain right now, if anyone can explain epigenetics or polygenetic inheritance to me it would be much appreciated also have a million books to read - ive read 4 so far, my tbr stack is so much bigger, i think i want to start posting about books im reading, not really reviews but about them been slacking off with the swedish too mainly focusing on sociology, just got a new book - closing the gender gap - which im focusing on now, goodbye gotta go study that in fact

Week 2 of January 2025
started off strong, sleep schedules been very strange

got actually so much done this week it i'm sure come at the cost of my thriving a little bit especially my sleep has been all over the place (skipped this weekend's reviews because i went to bed at 3pm yesterday and woke up at 10pm the same day) but I've had a really good time studying hard especially cell biology and starting learning Swedish I've enjoyed a lot
habits + goals:
✅ essay every day ✅ read every day ✅ go climbing four times ✅ mochi flashcards every day ✅ duolingo streak ✅ >35 hours study ✅ make >20 flashcards ❌ draw everyday - dnf, started off alright ❌walk twice (just went for one yesterday- unless when it snowed was this week i cant remember) ❌ knit/crochet everyday (missed one day i think)
things i did
continued learning swedish - got though i think 6 units of duolingo maybe it was 5, read an intro to swedish short book and bit of grammar, bit of reading practice, gonna do more structured stuff this week also doing a open learn course on how to learn a language cos i dont know what im doing genuinely
got topic 1 of bio and soc done with time to revise as well and finally finisished topic 2 art history
finished cell bio extra course a week early + byzantine icons course on time
feeling pretty good climbing, havent done any hard climbs recently but ive made progress on a few
finished reading women in the picture - would recommend
wrote 7 essays which was epic, i think ill post a list of what they were on at some point for my memory
went in a lovely 7am winter walk (dont think im a morning person thoughi hadnt slept i wish i was)
stuck to a schedule a couple of times
thats all i can remember but it was pretty good! total time: 49 hours / goal 35 (that's definitely the most I've ever studied in one week, i think I'm gonna go for 40 hours this next week) next week my main goals will be: finish reading this dark country, 40 hours study, focus more on swedish

bio - bit of revision, finished cell bio course a week early which was very cool, loved it, then did a full topic practice test, i think i got 67% which isnt that good but im pleased with anyway because its my first time learning this topic, not to be a nerd but i love doing bio questions while listening to music i had such a good time
soc - very little, few practice questions
art hist - finally ticked off jmw turner!!!!! so glad to finally move on
swedish - popped off today, also wrote my essay on the history of swedish language so i included that thats the main reason for big time today

had a very weird one - couldn't sleep last night dunno why so i was just awake still at 9am and then i got up but then i went to sleep at about middayish-2ish i dont really know and woke up at 5:30pm and thought id wasted my day but i still got some things done somehow so that was good

things i did
went climbing had a really good time
bio: revision at the moment, finished this weeks bit of tour of the cell, did a practice test, an assignment, was pretty good its a shame cell bio is such a small section in my course i love it
soc: just basically ticked off what i had to do didn't do anything that productive, i think soc will be minorly more exciting next week
art hist: did hardly any time but ive finally ticked off the main content of bloody harbour of dieppe so that was really good then proceeded to spend a really long time on my byzantine icons course which is really just for fun and not relavent at all and thats what i wrote my essay on today so that took most of the time

Wednesday 9th (can't believe it's only been 3 days this week)

i've been writing so much i'm enjoying it like 100% more essays than last term cos i never wrote any but also i've just been writing more notes, more extensive notes, doing more practice questions, the extra courses help as well but ive almost gone through a pen in 2 days its nuts - gonna be honest i really fell off today i woke up at 4:30pm i slept though my alarm and its so miserable waking up when its dark ive experienced that a lot and normally it ruins my days and really throws my off but somehow i pulled it back and still studied a lot and had a good time so thats pretty cool things i did:
bio: i've finished what i had to do for the week yesterday (poor scheduling on my end) so now i've got loads of time for revision and its cell bio which is my favourite so i'm having a great time, did some practice questions, got ahead on the cell bio course i'm doing too was a lot of fun (2h10 - 40min extra course)
soc: got well into it today although research methods is still boring i did some practice questions that were good and wrote my essay on positivism and interpretivism so spend the longest on that today (3h30)
art hist: not fun was doing the topic that made me quit art history for 6 weeks and i like it and also i realised i hold a pen funny halfway though that but im very proud i got it done anyway (1h30)
byz icons: rushed though it a bit cos i ran out of time and it was really interesting so i think i'll have to go back at some point (30m)
swedish: started a vocab list type thing, still into it, some day i'll be writing this on swedish studyblr i swear
didnt go on a walk which i planned to do cos i woke up too late and im sad about that, just didnt have that any time for other stuff generally cos i woke up too late and have been studying the whole time, gonna read my book + probably knit for a bit now though
total regular study: 6h total extracurricular: 3h20 total: 9h20
see you tomorrow
#im gonna be nocturnal help#studying#studyblr#study motivation#study time#january#there's so many things in my head and i don't know what to do with them all

Tuesday (im so tired)
i didn't sleep well i think i'm actually a little obsessed atm ive just been not sleeping or waiting well but its kind of chill and i slept in and missed an appointment that wasnt important so thats pretty relaxed of me i feel and i has a great time bouldering im just a little all over the place now cos ive stayed up too late - insane amount of studying this day but i just want to say its mainly because of swedish which i'm only sort of counting and i got super into a biology essay tonight and spent way longer than i should have cos i was having such a good time anyway gotta make this quick cos im going to bed
been listening to classical music for the first time ever and it kind of goes hard esp. vivaldi four seasons winter
studied cell structure some more, got the whole weeks work done today somehow so i'll have to think of some revision to do for bio
had a boring but moderately fun time with sociology, im studying research methods at the moment im not yet a fan
had a good time with art history which im proud of cos i had the feeling like i was dreading it and then i remembered i like a challenge and then i had a good time
finished unit5 of swedish aaa
loving the byzantine icons course - bit about iconoclasm enjoyed a lot
wrote an epic essay on the history of cell biology + cell structure loved it but im knackered
havent read + hardly knitted + sketchbooked ive just been really busy, im going to read a bit of women in the picture now though
posted last nights study with me in which my cat disrupts by sitting on both my notebooks
frazzled + in my head got to go to bed im sure im forgetting something

Monday 7th (first day back at it)
actually had the most productive day of my life possibly - i'm sure it will all fall apart tmrw i'm staying up way to late for my 5/6 hours sleep or whatever it was

Things I did
woke up in the AM (pretty good for me)
got ahead in biology, i got both today and tomorrow's topics done so i have more time to revise now which is good
got my sociology work done - that was the least exciting bit of my day, sort of did bare minimum
art history: studying jmw turner rn who i am not a bit fan of and in fact so much the contrary that i've been putting it off for 6 weeks but i put on a random classical music studying playlist and somehow that solved all my problems, i studied art hist the most today and i had a great time, it wasn't really the most efficient use of my time cos i was focusing all on turner biography type stuff when really the thing i should be focusing on is his paintings but i'm just glad to be motivated again
tour of the cell: this was good as extra consolidation for bio, didn't take me long which was good, i'd like to finish it this week but idk if that's possible
byzantine icons: had a very short section today but loved it looking forward to the rest - its very tenuous including this in my art history study time because its not really related to what i'm studying ever i'm just interested but idm
swedish: still enjoying learning swedish a lot - i think i just love being a beginner and i love starting things off, its probably the lack of pressure, like when i've been doing something for a long time there's so much attached to it emotionally - anyway, learned en tårta (a cake), got freaked out by en and ett nouns its cool
went climbing
wrote my daily essay on turner today no surprises there
did some knitting and some sketchbooking, the only things i have left to do today are read and plan tmrw which hopefully i'll do before i'll fall asleep but you'll never know
i wish i had a format for these things
Study Time
biology - 1h50m (inc. 30m extra course)
sociology - 50m
art hist - 4h (inc. 10m extra course + 2h essay research + writing)
swedish - 2h (haven't decided yet whether to include this in study time any input welcome idk what counts to me)
total compulsory - 6h
total extra - 2h40m
total - 8h40m

Week 1 of 2025

As its still the holidays i wasn't expecting to get much done this first week but i've been overcome by new year energy and have done a whole lot
habits + goals
i have read everyday, i'm reading women in the pciture by catherine mccormack and this dark country by rebecca birrell, they're both really good, i'm enjoying this dark country more at the moment but its a bit slower to read
i have knitted or crocheted everyday, i'm still learning crochet so i've been doing a thin rectangle to practice, i've made a bit of progress on my scarf
i've sketchbooked everyday, quite enjoying it, i've been drawing some pictures i took
i've written an essay every day so far! i didn't think i'd even do 5 days tbh i'm very proud
studying + adjacent things
haven't studied properly cos it's the holidays but i've been planning and cos of my essay challenge i have been doing a bit
10 hours total
started a youtube channel for study with me's - very weird for me i'm not used to filming myself but i find it so motivating and focusing it turns out, i think i've done 5 maybe but one never uploaded for some reason and another i'm about to upload tonight https://www.youtube.com/@thisisyesterday
posted a new notion template that i was working on for a while
having a good time on studyblr
enjoying my new planner also
other stuff
been climbing twice this year so far, at the moment my climbing gym has a thing where you get a thing if you go enough times this month, free coffee then chalk then a tshirt, trying to rack up 17 or whatever it is for the free tshirt
went for a nighttime walk in the snow which was a good decision because the snow all disappeared by the time i woke up
tidied my room, its now messy again but it was nice while it lasted
started learning swedish i'm excited about that aswell
i think thats it - good luck anyone whose going back to school or work tomorrow/today!

Day 3 of 2025
I've been not sleeping much cos i've got the new years energy and i keep staying up really late and then waking up too early (i think i'll sleep in loads tmrw though) so as a result this 3 days has felt like about 3 weeks, right now i'm extremely anxious but i was alright mainly earlier i just need to go to bed so i'll try not to let that influence my review
youtube
this was me tonight, i'm really into this essay a day thing but there's not a chance i can keep this up when i actually have to study other things on top of that. I've also been enjoying filming myself, i've never done it before and it makes me really focus and its quite fun seeing the time-lapse.
Goals check-in
did a small drawing of a bit of my room
wrote a sociology essay, it was a really practiced topic so it wasn't too hard i reality but i have such a bad mental block with sociology essays and i was feeling anxious anyway, i'm really proud i finished it and i think i did a good job planning
made a video of me doing said planning
finally hung out my washing that had been sitting in the washing machine for at least 24 hours
read some of women in the picture but didnt read what i planned because the essay took a long while
working on some kind of long thin micro crochet type thing, maybe it will be a hairband or a belt or a ribbon
went climbing but ,didn't do anything too hard
started working on a new notion template revision planner (for anyone interested its going to be free make your requests now)
i think thats it, i'm very tired goodnight!
#studyblr#studyblr community#studying#goals#to do list#i was just about to go to bed and now the cat has appeared to bother me#Youtube
