Female Red-wing Blackbirds sure do look different than their male counterparts.
Though she is certainly a bird, she is not black, nor does she possess red wings.
It's hard to tell what bird this is, at first glance.

This bird looks just like any other brown bird that can be found along a hiking trail.
But if you look closely, you'll find a beautiful little blue spot on its shoulder.
This is the only clue that this bird is actually a female Indigo Bunting.
Compared to its flamboyant male counterpart, seen below, it would be very easy to conclude that these two are different species.

The first sighting of a Gray Catbird is always a joyful event.
They can be quite chatty, at times, and are excellent mimics of the calls of other bird species.
