Borrego Springs is a small desert town on the western edge of the Imperial Valley in southern California. Around it are scattered metal sculptures of monsters, megafauna from when the area was wetter, horses, and people. I took photos of some of them during a recent road trip.

If you're on a location scout for an alien world where the heroes have to infiltrate the mesa fortress, I recommend driving east on Hwy24 out of Torrey and looking for the off road area on the east side of Capitol Reef.

Around 200 million years ago, at the height of the war, some of the insectform war machines laid eggs. About 1000 years ago, in the cliffs of Utah, they hatched. What have they been up to since? Cyclonopedia by Reza Negarastani is one of my favorite books.
