Proper Brushing Techniques for Oral Health
Tumblr media
How to brush Properly?
Use soft-bristled toothbrush
Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Wet the bristles under warm water before applying a pea-sized amount of toothpaste.
Position the toothbrush
Position the toothbrush bristles at a 45-degree angle where your gums and teeth meet. Apply gentle pressure and use short, gentle, circular scrubbing motions. Be sure to brush the outer, inner, and chewing surfaces.
2 minutes total brushing
Spend at least 2 minutes total brushing your teeth, brushing all surface areas and allowing the toothpaste enough time for the fluoride to work and help strengthen enamel. Set a timer or play a 2-minute song to ensure you brush long enough.
rinsing out your mouth
Finish by thoroughly rinsing out your mouth 2-3 times with water. Spit out the water but don't rinse with water right after brushing, as you'll wash away much of the beneficial fluoride left from the toothpaste.
Brush at least twice per day
Brush at least twice per day - morning and before bedtime are most important. Wait 30-60 minutes after eating acidic or sugary foods before brushing to avoid damaging enamel weakened temporarily by acids. Change toothbrush heads every 3 months or sooner when bristles appear frayed from wear and tear.
Following these proper tooth brushing steps daily, along with flossing, will help ensure the best oral health and dental hygiene possible. Let our Dentists in London at Thousand Smiles Dental Clinic know if you need any clarification or have additional questions!
