“That’s me, Forrest Harper-Todd, local gentleman,” the 20 year old responded as he gave another small bow. His gaze soon flicked to the menu and he tried to remember which of his favorites he’d had recently. But then Axel’s voice grabbed his attention once again, so the conversation at hand took top priority.
“That would definitely be nice. But the same time, I suppose power struggles are one of the many things that make the world go round,” Forrest commented then took another glance at the offered flavors. “I’m gonna go with rocky road. Been awhile since I last had that.”
Axel wasn’t always a gentleman, not when he was growing up he wasn’t. He has learned a great deal about it after being adopted, what manners were appropriate to use. He smiles as he looks away from the menu to look at him.
“Good choice with that one. I think I’ll get some black raspberry personally.” He likes the idea of eating that right now, as he steps up closer to the window.

“Hey, it’s the truth or my version of it at the very least,” Forrest responded with a soft smile as he came to a stop at their destination. He held the door open for Axel then gave a small bow as he did so. “After you my good sir,” the Creative Writing major added.
He gave a soft laugh of his own followed up by a nod of agreement. “Yeah, there’s something about that unpredictability that can be cool from time to time. But at the same time, it would be cool if we just treat one another kindly with no hesitation regardless of differences. Think that’s a bit too much wishful thinking?”
Axel walks inside of the place, looking around at how busy it was. There wasn’t too big of a crowd though, which makes him glad they game at this time. It could have been a lot worse. “What a gentleman.” He laughs softly as he looks back at his friend, stopping to look at the menu.
“I don’t mind the unpredictable. It might be wishful thinking though, it’s be nice though wouldn’t it? If there was no evil in the world?” Which is almost ironic for a thief to be saying no less. “What are you going to get?”

“You got that right on all notes, but I wouldn’t be so sure about the power thing. You’re a super friend,” Forrest remarked with a light laugh. All the same though, he’s serious about the compliment. He’s never hesitated to sing the praises of family and friends over the years, with occasional literal singing.
“I would ask what the world has come to, but something tells me that would take awhile to investigate,” he stated with a light sigh. “Shall we just agree to sum it up with the phrase people can be unpredictable? Not too much of a stretch, right?”
“Now, THAT? It really touches my heart.” Axel says as he places a hand on his chest. He doesn’t ever really think that he was SUPER — his dads? Maybe so, but he definitely wasn’t. He doesn’t mind the praise though, happily taking it.
“Yeah we can do that. The world is full of shady people is all, but there’s also so many good ones there too. I guess that’s the beauty of the world as we never know what we’re going to get from people.” Axel says with slight laugh.

“You’re preaching to the choir right there. Honestly, I’m just hoping that he either gets one of my powers or takes after his other dad,” Forrest commented with a light chuckle. Truth be told, he wouldn’t mind either way if Jordan got a power, two or more powers, or none at all. He’d love his son just the same.
“Definitely a few good friends. There’s probably a point where they feel more like family, to be quite honest. But did you mean to say fuck you over for cash or did you mean fuck you for cash?”
“Only time will tell my friend.” Axel admits with a smile. “You never now could get something completely random. I don’t have powers of my own though so I’m no expert.” He just wants to throw it out there, although the technology he makes for himself is probably a little deceiving.
There’s another laugh. “I’ve had people get close to me, sleep with me, and then steal the money out of my wallet while I’m asleep. I’ve also had people fuck me over thinking it would save their ass.” He shrugs his shoulders.

“I get that,” Forrest simply answered because he’d seen and heard plenty over the years. He’d definitely lucked out in a few more aspects, but there were just some things that never faded with time. “Yeah, he’s just dashing around on the daily. If he turns out to be a speedster then that’s going to be a fun little adventure,” he remarked with a low whistle at the end.
“Couldn’t agree more. After all, people come and go through life, but family’s something else. They’re some of the few people who stick around.”
“It would be ironic, then you would really have trouble keeping up with him. They’re cute when they’re not throwing a tantrum WHILE running at least.” Axel laughs, but he knows even if his own daughter turns out to be a mutant he’s love her all the same.
“Exactly — family are the main ones you can count on. Plus a few good friends in the mix too. I’ve seen how quickly people are willing to fuck you for some cash.”

Uriah smiles the moment he sees the girl, kneeling down to give her a quick hug before handing her the skateboard. He knew it would be a welcome present - her skateboard has seen better days, and Uriah knows she’ll love anything pink. “Now you take good care of this, okay? Practice hard, I want to see all your tricks.” He says with a soft laugh, standing up as Mila runs off to try the skateboard out. “I figured she wouldn’t say no to a present from her favourite uncle.”
It was sweet always to see the two of them interacting. Axel couldn’t imagine anything better than his best friend getting along with his daughter. It was important always. He can hear the skateboard against the wooden floor, and usually would have yells, but hears the door outside opening for the backyard. “You are her favorite uncle — she’s always happy when you come over to visit you know.” Axel says as he nudged Uriah. “You want any coffee or something?”

“Funny story, I’m not either,” Forrest answered with a grin of his own. That ship had sailed long, long ago. The topic got switched back to their respective kids and it was a welcome change in the 20 year old’s opinion. “You can say that again. Feels just like yesterday Jordan was a happy little baby. Now, he’s a happy Tasmanian Devil of an 18 month old.”
“I know it is and I try,” the younger responded. “I’m just a sucker for spending time with loved ones and sitting in front of blank documents.”
“Yeah? I don’t know, just seen too much growing up.” Axel feels like if God exists then why did he let him stay growing up in the system like that? He doesn’t dwell on it though. “Ha! Jordan running around yet?” He asks although he adopted his own daughter when she was a little older than that, but knows the feeling anyway.
“Family is great — can’t go wrong with that.” He says as he reflects on his siblings and fathers.

Steve is a worrier by nature. Even when he knows his children are safe, he still worries for them. Worries that they’ll get into vicious accidents or God knows what. But he deals with this sort of worry in this best way he can.
He stops pacing as soon as he sees Mila, a grin crosses his features, this one more relieved than the last. Then, he looks at his son, then back to Mila, and the worry seems to melt from his features.
“Alright, alright. Let’s go.” With that, they begin to walk in the direction of the ice-cream parlor. “Uh-huh,” is what says then, almost mindlessly. “Yeah, alright. You go in the direction that you know isn’t safe, get hurt in the process and leave me to worry.” A pause. “Look, kid. You’ve got a daughter now, an’ that means you gotta be more careful ‘bout these sort of things. Okay?”
Axel should know better than this — he knows how much his father worries, but with good reason. He was always a reckless type, growing up in the streets of Gotham AND in the foster system led him to learn how to be scrappy. He always likes that about himself, but it made fitting in with others difficult sometimes.
Mila is excited at the idea of ice cream, blonde hair bouncing as she runs in circles around both Axel and Steve.
“I know. I’m trying to be careful. I should probably GET OUT of the lifestyle I have. It’s just really hard, but I’ve made steps toward being more responsible. I want to be a GOOD DAD — like you and pops.” He said as he flashes a smile, trying to be positive. “I’ve gotten worse injuries practicing ice skating.” He doesn’t think that will make him worry any less, but it makes Axel laugh at least. “Mila is the best thing that has ever happened to me actually.”

Quivi’s eyebrows perk as she notes him signing - and there’s a small sigh of relief as the notepad is tucked underneath her arm.
Her hand extends once more , responding in her most comfortable form of communication , Are you fluent in sign language ??
Axel had learned the skill a long time ago — still young and between foster homes. It became something he kept up with over the years.
“Yeah.” He signs back with a smile. “I am, learned when I was a teenager.”

“Hopes and prayers, even if you’re not particularly religious,” Forrest rattled off as their journey continued. A few chuckles escaped because goodness gracious, he couldn’t believe how much he was able to relate to that. “But I get how you feel or at least I kind of do right now and will gradually get it as time goes on. There is a time to be a fun father and then the time to be a buzzkill,” he replied once the chuckle fit had finally subsided.
“Yeah, I do. One of few things that I still do regularly since becoming a dad.”
“I’m not personally, but totally respect that you are.” Axel says with a grin as he nudged his friend gently with his elbow. He takes a deep breath as he moves through the street. “They grow up so fast it blows my mind.” He says since on his daughter’s next birthday she will be turning eight! Which is so crazy to think about every time he does.
“It’s always good to make time for yourself too.” Axel gives the advice, even if that’s just five minutes you have to make room for the time.

“Hey, you gotta have plans for just about everything in this wild world,” Forrest responded as he followed Axel. “Back up plans too, just in case the original ones do go wrong.” He then listened as the other caught him up on what was going on and he gave a few nods. “Sounds pretty cool for the most part and hey, I’d consider trying to practice my skateboarding moves in the house too.”
Not that he ever did try to pull something like that off. Forrest’s troublemaker persona was only directed towards the public and he’d rather help keep the house in order than risk destroying it.
“My thoughts exactly. If you don’t have a good plan then what are you left with?” Axel asks as he shoves his hands into his pockets at this point or they’d never stop moving as he talks. “Oh totally me too if I had one when I was younger. These are really NICE wood floors though. My playful side is always at war with my responsible parent side.” The parenting usually wins the battle.
He looks over at Forrest, ignoring the people around them. “You skate then?”

“You better believe it. Seriously, turn invisible one moment and then summon enough zombies to take someone off guard, easy as one, two, three.” Forrest gave a light laugh as he shook his head because anybody who knew him well enough automatically understood that he’d never pull those kinds of tricks unless it was all in good fun.
“Yes, I did and couldn’t agree more. But off we go, my friend! While we’re at it, please tell me about you’ve been and all that cool stuff. Feels like we could use a serious catch up session.”
Axel is ready for them to catch up, knowing that it has been a while. It was his fault for getting so busy though — always having something going on. “You seem to have it all planned out. You can’t go wrong with a plan like that.” He says with a hand gesture as they’re walking.
“Oh you know summer vacation is getting closer, my daughter is excited about that. She recently got a new skateboard, and keeps trying to use it inside the house.”

“Don’t worry, I came armed with a gift.” Uriah insists as he steps inside, holding up the pink skateboard - not for Axel but for his daughter. Uriah knows better than to show up without a gift of some kind for her or she’ll hound him for the entire day. Besides, it gives him a good excuse to come and see his best friend - not that he needs an excuse of course, but it’s a good ruse all the same. “I figured it was time we replaced that ratty old thing she’s been riding around.” [ @thievcry ]
Axel steps aside for his daughter to run past him. Mila was always excited to see Uriah especially when he brings a gift with him. She’s already reaching for it, while chanting ‘THANK YOU’ several times. It makes him smile before his gaze shifts back to his best friend. “Thank you, her old one is definitely getting to be worn out.” He says as he playfully ruffles up the seven year old’s hair, telling her that she can go outside to try it out.

“That’s good because I would’ve followed through on that whole marching you to the doctor thing,” Forrest laughed. It was the truth because his worries almost always tended to flare up whenever a family member or friend was injured and would only be assuaged with a check up in some way. But he donned a light smile as he listened to Axel then pulled out his phone in order to consider the options.
“You’d be surprised. I once turned a guy down for a date at an ice cream parlor because I had places to be. Does the one a couple blocks down sound alright?”
“Would you have? I’d like to see you try to drag me there.” Axel was a pretty large guy — standing at six foot five, muscles on his arms intimidating those around him. His personality is one to make people relax after they get to know him.
He raises an eyebrow at that next comment. “Did you really? I can’t believe it, but then again you shouldn’t date people you aren’t interested in. Oh! Good one, that’s perfect.”

Quivi’s brow is furrowed in SLIGHT confusion as she continues to peer at the wound - but she can’t give help to someone who doesn’t want it. A silent nod , but her expression remains unchanged. Even with the proposal for ice cream , one of Quivi’s most favorite things on the whole planet. It’s a guilty pleasure.
No. She signs as she shakes her head. And then she writes , “ It’s a little late for ice cream, is it not ?? ”
Axel knows that it was getting late, but that never bothered him because he was always under the impression of EAT WHEN YOU’RE HUNGRY not because the clock says to.
“Alright maybe it is, but they just won’t be as busy since it’s dinner time.” He says with a grin still spread over his face — signing the words.

she’s all riled up now and there’s no stopping her. “ stupid thugs think they can threaten my bodega lady and smash her shit, then someone should smash something important to them. ” a firm believer in don’t dish out what you can’t handle in return, matty was just itching to make them pay. “or we can pop some tires off of their cars, i know where they like to park ‘em.”
Axel might be a bad influence sometimes, but he was more responsible about his choices with age. “How about we pop their tires then see how we feel after that? Unless you have an idea of what else to break. People like that generally take pride in their wheels so they’ll hurt ‘em.” He admits with a smirk to his words now.

“Axel, Axel, Axel,” Forrest started as he faced the other male and crossed his arms as he also donned his best serious look. “It may be nothing, but worrying about that and something is my specialty. But as long as you take care of that wound then I suppose you can get away without being marched right down to the nearest doctor,” he rattled off.
“Ice cream, you say? Consider my interest piqued.”
“I know, shame on me.” Axel says with a gesture of his hand before his gaze settles on Forrest with a smile still nonetheless. He was good at taking care of himself so it shouldn’t be a worry at least. Not that it would stop anyone from that. “I promise I’m giving my arm the best care there is. Cross my heart.” He says placing a hand on his chest for a moment.
“How can you say no to ice cream? Anywhere in particular you want to go?”
