Honestly part of the problem with this obsession with only consuming unproblematic fiction is that people are less likely to acknowledge when something is harmful. If you so much as say hey this one joke in this one episode was offensive fans will write you an essay on why it wasn’t. Because they’ve created a world view where this is basically accusing them of being a bad person who has committed an unforgivable sin.

I'm reading some older self-help and how-to books from Project Gutenberg (just because) and while some of it is funny and maybe genuinely helpful. It is important to remember that when Arnold Bennet says "Just get up 2 hours earlier and do things then", he is adressing an audience of well-of businessmen who have their servants/wives do all the chores for them and roll out of bed at 9am and go to bed at 12am, and who are "incapable" of sleeping any earlier.

Executive dysfunction is such a mother fucker.

I've been putting off organizing the pantry for almost six months because it seemed so daunting, but today I woke up feeling okay-ish energy-wise and decided I could at least try and empty it today.

Reader, not only did I empty it, but I also cleaned and organized it the way I've been meaning to do for months—in an hour.

Was it an hour of work split into smaller, fifteen-minute increments so I could sit on the floor and rest while my heart tried to escape my chest? Oh, for sure. But knowing that it would have taken an able-bodied person forty minutes to an hour, tops, is infuriating.

Like, what do you mean my brain told me this was several days' worth of work, and it took an hour? What do you mean?!

there's a post on here that's like "the worst thing a piece of fiction can be is mean", and while I agree with that, I think it being insincere is just as bad. nothing more obnoxious than a story that's constantly sneering and rolling its eyes at its own genre in a bid to seem clever and above it all.

I adore this recent trend (if that's the right word) of letting an orchestra play classical music on a festival. It's magical to see thousands of festival-goers going absolutely wild on Beethoven. Mosh/circlepits, crowd surfing. It's wonderful to see the orchestra and the audience having the time of their lives.

having anti punitive justice morals sucks because you want to say "man that guy sucks he should get hit with hammers until he dies" but you also want to make it clear you don't think anyone should be put in charge of the 'hit people with hammers until they die" machine.
