Never seen the show or played the game myself, but this is interesting

Yammering About Dropsy

As a writer, I love to see innovative ways of telling stories, through any medium, but especially video games. I'm also a big fan of point and click adventure games, a genre that hinges on story to work properly. Dropsy is great at both of these things.

There is no proper dialogue in Dropsy. Instead it is entirely hieroglyphics. This works for the most part, but there are a couple that didn't convey themselves properly- For example, the hieroglyphic for "job" was a sign man digging a hole. I, and I have to guess others, initially thought it just meant "dig". I dunno how you'd convey that better, admittedly.

That said, there is a language in Dropsy- Its own alphabet, spelling out words in I believe English in various spots in the game. I'm sure there's game theorists who delight in going back through and translating every instance of actual words, but I'm not one of those people.

As for the actual story told? It's really good. A lot of really emotional moments and heartstring tugging, very palpable stakes, and uh... We'll get to how I feel about the rest later.

Let's briefly touch on the gameplay, which... I mean, it's your basic inventory object puzzle point and click. Pick up everything that isn't nailed down, use it on the environment. The main difference is that 90% of the puzzles are entirely optional- They only serve as a form of side quest that rewards you with making happy, which is a good reward. That said, you really can just zoom through the game if you want, but from what I understand there is some form of light narrative punishment for it.

Speaking of narrative... Spoilers follow. Not just for Dropsy, but for the first season of Superman and Lois. You'll, uh. You'll understand in a bit.

OK, so. Dropsy's ending is foreshadowed pretty well- Something weird and scifi is happening in this small town, and poor Dropsy is just bumbling into the mystery in hopes of curing his dad. Once you do so, he tells Dropsy that he is essentially Superman in terms of his origin story- Alien baby crashlands on Earth and is found by childless couple. Also, turns out, the CEO who wants to hire you is actually evil (shocker). But it goes a bit deeper than that.

After looking it up online, because it is NOT clear without further context, it turns out that the CEO is Dropsy's half brother who was also sent to Earth, but as banishment for killing his father and brother and trying to usurp the throne of the planet they're both from.

So... Yeah. Bit of an escalation there. Here's the thing, though- It mirrors the plot twist of Superman and Lois Season 1 almost exactly.

In Superman and Lois, the evil CEO Morgan Edge turns out to be Superman's half brother, who was sent away and instructed to rebuild Krypton on Earth by being a jackass about it.

You... Can see where I'm going with this, right?

I want to stress that Dropsy was released first, way back in 2015. Superman and Lois Season 1 came out in 2021. I don't know if it was on purpose, or a complete and utter coincidence, but Dropsy ripped off Superman, only for Superman to turn around and rip off Dropsy.

That is just insane to me. And whatever my feelings about this game (they are positive, let me stress), I will never be able to think about it again without thinking of this insane connection. Just wild.

Oh, so Galadriel is Elrond’s mother in law. Got it.

That would be an interesting place to put them, saving Celebrian from orcs. I think the closest thing Hyrule has to them would be Lynels in terms of intelligence. Was Aragorn in the picture yet at that point?

The Rohirrim would love Hyrule’s Stable system.

I dunno about the spiders. I imagine they still exist, but as normal tiny spiders. Because natural evolution or something.

I’ve also believed that Botw/Totk take place in an alternate timeline from the rest of the series stemming off Skyward Sword, specifically when Link goes back in time to defeat Demise.

I feel like Bombadil would be like a younger, more whimsical Deku Tree in terms of personality. He’s like a mysterious but kind old man of the woods.

It’s been a while since I’ve read the LOTR series so my memory is a bit rusty

I think it could be interesting to have Link and Zelda land in Greenwood and accompany Legolas to Imladris during Fellowship of the Ring. I’m not saying they should join the Fellowship, unless that’s what they want to do, but I think Zelda could learn a lot more from Elrond than Thruanduil, given their studious natures.

They could also show up earlier, when Aragorn was still a kid.

If not that, then I can see them landing in or near the elf community in the Shire. I know there was one. Maybe stay with Tom Bombadil for a while?

Also, I was talking about the dragons from Skyward Sword. I totally believe that the dragons from botw/totk were Zonai shrine maidens or sages or something that ate Secret Stones

I thought Hylia would be a Maiar too. I mean, she’s supposed to be equal to the other three. Like, she’s the youngest sister that was either left behind or volunteered to guard the Triforce after they left.

The Dragons could be something else

I just thought of this. She made the Hylians to look like elves, but mortal. Like a fusion of elf and man.

Maybe they had longer lifespans before Skyward Sword? Who knows.

I think it depends on which Elven community he lands in by the time of LOTR in-universe. There’s Rivendell, Mirkwood and Lorien, though he could get to visit all three.

Also, I once had a theory that Demise and the Golden Goddesses were actually Maiar. I still think it’s plausible.

Floorplanner. Design and furnish a house for you to use for having a consistent background in your comic or anything! Free, you need an account, easy to use, and you can save multiple houses.

Comparing Heights. Input the heights of characters to see what the different is between them. Great for keeping consistency. Free.

Magma. Draw online with friends in real time. Great for practice or hanging out. Free, paid plan available, account preferred.

Smithsonian Open Access. Loads of free images. Free.

SketchDaily. Lots of pose references, massive library, is set on a timer so you can practice quick figure drawing. Free.

SculptGL. A sculpting tool which I am yet to master, but you should be able to make whatever 3d object you like with it. free.

Pexels. Free stock images. And the search engine is actually pretty good at pulling up what you want.

Figurosity. Great pose references, diverse body types, lots of "how to draw" videos directly on the site, the models are 3d and you can rotate the angle, but you can't make custom poses or edit body proportions. Free, account option, paid plans available.

Line of Action. More drawing references, this one also has a focus on expressions, hands/feet, animals, landscapes. Free.

Animal Photo. You pose a 3d skull model and select an animal species, and they give you a bunch of photo references for that animal at that angle. Super handy. Free.

Height Weight Chart. You ever see an OC listed as having a certain weight but then they look Wildly different than the number suggests? Well here's a site to avoid that! It shows real people at different weights and heights to give you a better idea of what these abstract numbers all look like. Free to use.

Hey guys! Sorry I haven’t really posted anything in a while. I’m still working on Prismatic Kingdom, but there’s also some other crossovers and original stuff that’s been occupying my time and imagination.

I’m currently working on a series of pictures themed to the song ‘I am the Voice’ by Celtic Woman.

I’ve been meaning to make another side blog dedicated to the subject matter of that series but I’m waiting until my Tumblr-versary this month to do so.

I also have a job, so that takes up the majority of my time most days
