Title design for one of my newer fics on AO3, Romana V. It’s a crossover between Megaman ZX and Doctor Who featuring the fifth incarnation of Romana (that I made up).

I’ve actually been working on it off and on for a few years.

Credit to the BBC Gallifreyan Translator website for the gallifreyan in the title!

It just means Romana Five.

Excerpt:

He breathed heavily as he leaned against the last archway.

Looking up, he stopped short as he saw a structure he’d only heard of in children’s tales and superstitions.

“Is that…?”

Before him stood the Ancient Castle, its crumbling stone held together with thick vegetation, trees replacing some of the broken columns he could see from the outside.

He never thought he’d actually get to see it.

A sharp whistle drew his attention away from the beautiful sight, his gaze moving directly above him.

Aron couldn’t help the gasp that escaped his lips when he saw the robed figure sitting up there, looking down at him like a disapproving parent.

The sun shone just behind the figure, silhouetting their frame, making Aron squint as he tried to get a good look.

He could make out animal ears and a large tail, or perhaps multiple tails, before he felt a sharp pain in his neck and everything suddenly went black.

Excerpt:

Within this hidden chamber was what looked like a small building.

Stepping inside, he again ignited his foxfire to see. It resembled a Christian chapel, with pews and an altar at the end, all hewn out of the surrounding rock.

Instead of a cross at the altar, there was a statue that stretched to the ceiling.

It depicted two people, a man and a woman, with the man on the right and woman on the left.

“That looks like the statue in Aerwinya…”

Hiroshi observed.

There were more statues in place of where stained glass windows would be, depicting other people. Presumedly, they were all from whatever religion the elves followed.

“What did they call it again?… Ara… something.”

“I believe it was Arath, Master.”

“Arath, that’s it! Thanks, Hisui.”

There were four pillars, each depicting a different person. One he recognized as Hecate, on the left closest to him.

She held her arms clasped together in front, as if waiting patiently for her turn to speak.

The other three were a mystery, but he could guess as to their properties.

Opposite Hecate was a woman who looked as if water was flowing all around her, or she was made of water, similar to Lady Aki’s elemental form. Her hair and dress flowed together to the ground like a waterfall.

While Silver has mostly gotten over people calling him weak, even though he very much isn’t, he will not tolerate people calling his little girl weak.

In case it’s hard to read the dialogue, here’s a transcript:

Silver: What’s wrong, sweetie?

Maeve: Some boys made fun of me today. I tried not to let it get to me, but… they’re right. I am just a weak, dirty half-blood.

Hearing that, Silver gets mad. He starts plotting something as his daughter looks up at him with confusion.

“Dad…?”

Later that day, Silver tracks down the boys that had bullied his daughter and sics his Weavile on them.

“You think muggles are weak, huh? How’s this for weak!? Hahahahaha!”

The bullies scream in fright as the Dark/Ice type lunges at them, chasing them down the hall.

Excerpt:

It was quiet when the last of the arrivals entered, but the room wasn’t empty.

Scattered around the table were five other individuals, who all looked up.

Hiroshi spotted Kerry, who sat off to the right. The deer faeman nodded to him.

The kitsune took that as an invitation to sit next to him, with Bari seating herself on Hiroshi’s other side.

Looking around at all the unfamiliar faces, Hiroshi figured they represented the other local non-human settlements.

Across from him sat someone he thought he recognized.

Then it hit him.

‘Isn’t that the Cheif? Kara’s father. What was his name? Rudy?’

Their eyes met briefly, nodding to each other.

In all the time Hiroshi had lived in Colchester, not once was he given the chance to meet the Chief in person.

He looked like his children, with messy dark hair and blue eyes that regarded Hiroshi with approval.

He wore a cloak, similar to Kara’s, that protected him from the sun, as well as a long sleeved tunic and gloves.

Further down was a woman whose hair seemed to be made from leaves, her skin bark-like in appearance. She reflected the changing seasons in her hair, green at the roots and red and orange near the ends.

‘She must be a dryad. I didn’t know those lived around here.’

At the head of the table was the host of this little meeting, the King of the local elves alongside his Queen who sat next to him.

The King wore his hair down, long silver-white side bangs framing a strong and fair face with pale eyes that betrayed his true age. He wore something resembling a celtic version of a Chinese hanfu, a crown of petrified wood resembling antlers adorning his brow.

His Queen wore something similar, her coppery hair loosely pulled back into a half braid tied with hemp cords. She wore a circlet of similar material to the King’s crown, woven into an intricate pattern. She had green eyes that regarded everyone in the room with a kind interest.

Chapter cover for Book 1, Ch 16

Excerpt:

She held her arms out as Bari ran onto the water unbidden, little wings flapping.

Hiroshi almost panicked as she did, but it seemed the water construct was supporting the girl’s steps.

The little cub didn’t care how cold and wet her mother’s embrace was. She was just happy to see her.

“I’m sorry to have worried you, Bari. To have worried everyone.”

Bari didn’t respond for a good few minutes, her tears mingling with the clear water of the spirit construct.

When she finally did, she looked up at Aki with bright, reddened eyes.

“I… I can’t believe…”

The girl happened to look down and caught the ghastly sight of the dead body below. Her breath hitched and closed her eyes, burying her face in her mother’s liquid chest.

Only to start coughing as some of the water got into her nose and mouth.

Her mother held her close as she expelled the water, leaving an uncomfortable burning sensation in her sinuses.

The cub continued to hold onto the liquid being, this time keeping her face out of its body, while the conduct looked up at the man who reunited them.

“Thank you for bringing her here, Black Fox.”

Bari took the lead, using all her senses to pinpoint where the river was.

They moved past the shrine, and had gotten maybe twenty feet away when Bari’s face scrunched up in disgust.

Hiroshi had to cover his nose for a moment as the smell hit him.

“Ugh! What is that?”

“The river…”

Bari muttered.

Just a few feet away, the small group could hear the flowing water. But they could also smell something awful coming from it.

“Ew… it’s not an undead stench… but it’s still bad…”

Kara complained, holding her nose.

“It’s like sewage… ugh.”

Kay’s voice sounded nasally from the way he was pinching his nose closed.

“I’m not going to ask how you know what that smells like.” Kara said.

“He’s right…”

Hiroshi said, getting closer to the awful-smelling water.

Excerpt:

Though his vision was blurred by tears, a large shape started to rise from the water before him. It was amorphous at first, then it began to take a humanoid shape, adding wings and a tail as it formed.

Its skeletal face contorted in anger, fangs bared as if to maul him then and there.

The man would have gasped if it weren’t for the watery gag around his mouth.

The creature screamed in abject fury, the sound drawing the attention of the grunts and children a little ways away.

She moved from her position next to the bed to sit across from Kay, back hovering against the opposite wall.

Noelle in her usual outfit when she first sets out on her journey, as well as the first couple of rivals she meets in the Pokemon World, they being Chase and Silver.

This is an animatic for AKiC that I worked with the lovely CernyCern on Discord to make.

Unfortunately, the final changes I wanted her to make to this file made it corrupt, so I decided to go with the second to last version.

I think it still turned out pretty good.
