The closest experience I've ever had to discovering "the vitamin" was buying a 100% wool outfit and wearing it in the winter.

Not only was I not freezing anymore, I was not sweating and overheating either. The horrible sensory nightmare of winter clothes disappeared.

In particular, I bought a pair of wool pants. They were a thrifted pair of fancy dress pants like you would wear at an important office job, and they were easily the most comfortable pair of winter-appropriate pants i'd ever worn. I wore them Every Single Day.

From that point on I realized a lot of my clothes were making me feel bad, and the common thread was polyester. Especially polyester blends.

It's a trap because the polyester clothes are the ones that always feel sooooo silky soft when they are in the store, whereas cotton, linen and wool can feel comparatively rough and scratchy. But when actually wearing them for hours throughout the day, it's the natural fibers that feel more comfortable.

Maybe the secret to sensory comfort is not about the presence of softness, but the absence of overloading sensations. Or maybe the sensory stress and agony is not triggered by texture of the fabric, but by how it breathes and regulates temperature.

Then there's the problem of clothing life span: polyester blends, no matter how soft they seem at first, become rough and scratchy and covered in hard, itchy pills after wearing them 10 or 20 times, whether or not they have been tumble-dried or even washed at all. (I tested it!) Linen and cotton become softer and more comfy the more you wear them, polyester but ESPECIALLY polyester blends become a constant stressor. Polyester blend t-shirts I used to love for their softness now feel bristly and irritating.

So now I'm trying to change my wardrobe to as many natural fibers as possible, and the more natural fiber clothes i have the more I realize that the plastic fibers stress me out. It's so easy to overheat or freeze in them and they're always degrading and becoming less comfortable and it sucks.

frisk can resist the player

(undertale spoilers)

throughout undertale, frisk has shown positive qualities through their actions independent of the player. however, most of their decisions are made by the player, which includes kind or cruel ACTs, FIGHT, and MERCY. whether the battle options are provided by frisk, chara, or a combination of the two is left up to speculation. regardless, there is evidence that frisk is a pacifist at heart. in certain circumstances, frisk will resist the player and refuse to be cruel even when instructed to do so.

hangout with undyne

frisk can only enter undyne��s house if all monsters have been spared. even if frisk kills a monster after fleeing from undyne’s battle, undyne will refuse to open her door, saying she “won’t hang out with a murderer.” the hangout can only occur if frisk is completely innocent of murder, and thus free of chara’s influence.

during the hangout, there are many instances where options are provided to the player. one option has the player choose how frisk will pound the vegetables.

UNDYNE: Envision these vegetables as your greatest enemy! Now!! Pound them to dust with your fists!! NARRATOR: (How will you pound?) [Strong / Wimpy]

regardless of which the player chooses, frisk does not harm the vegetables.

NARRATOR: [Wimpy] (You pet the vegetables in an affectionate manner.) [Strong] (You punch the vegetables at full force. You knock over a tomato.)

it appears that if frisk has not committed murder, frisk is gentle with the vegetables even when “strong” is selected, despite having been asked to “pound them to dust.”

there is an even more compelling instance of frisk refusing to cooperate with the player at the end of the visit. after undyne accidentally lights her kitchen on fire, she will challenge frisk to a final rematch to regain her lost pride. in this fight, the player can choose to FIGHT. however, no matter how accurate the hit is, the attack will only deal 1 HP of damage, the exact same amount as the “fake hit” ACT. having befriended undyne, frisk appears to resist the command to fight and instead uses the “fake hit” action. since frisk can only hang out with undyne in the pacifist route, this means that frisk’s personality is dominant. undyne cannot be harmed by frisk because frisk has no desire to hurt, even when they are instructed to.

date with alphys

the date with alphys is another event available only if the player has not killed any monsters. what makes this event unique is that it’s the only time where options are provided in a bizarre style: the words have improper capitalisation and incorrect grammar. because of how unusual it is, it’s possible that someone other than the narrator, perhaps frisk, provides these fun and flirty options for the roleplay.

while this isn’t an indication of frisk resisting the player, it is a possible example of frisk influencing or overriding the available options.

battle with snowdrake’s mother

the true laboratory is available only when the run is locked into a pacifist route. it is in here that multiple amalgamates can be fought, including snowdrake’s mother. interestingly, in the fight with snowdrake’s mother, there are two ACTs that can be selected to be cruel: “laugh” and “heckle”. no other fight gives the player the opportunity to act cruel.

if the player selects “laugh,” the flavour text reads as followed.

the narrator is confused because frisk did not follow the selected ACT; frisk refused. this is something not generally seen in the game.

if the player selects “heckle”, the flavour text reads as followed:

once again, the narrator has to correct themself because frisk refused to act in the expected manner. the narrator may even be upset with frisk, if the second flavour text is directed at frisk.

it’s important to note that once frisk enters the true lab, there is absolutely NO potential to kill any monsters. any attack on the amalgamates will do no damage – instead, random words flicker in place of damage numbers and the amalgamate’s health bar increases. while the attacks on snowdrake’s mother can do damage, her health bar will never lower completely after a certain mark. this means there can be no more kills once frisk enters the true laboratory. this prevents the player from aborting the pacifist route at this point.

approaching the amalgamate

there is another event that occurs in the true lab that showcases frisk’s resistance, as pointed out by @z0eya. it occurs in one room in the true lab, where there is a bathtub with a strange shadow. 

despite there being no obstacles to slow frisk down (such as spider webs or water), frisk walks at a much slower pace than normal. it’s much slower than frisk ever walks in any part in the game. it’s interesting that this occurs only in the true lab. it showcases frisk’s fear or hesitation, which is a form of resistance against the player’s choice to move forward toward the shadow.

saving frisk’s friends

the last fight of the true pacifist route is also unique. in the fight with the lost souls, none of the options are malicious, with the only exception being the “insult” ACT towards papyrus, who takes any comment as a compliment. whether these options are provided by the narrator or frisk is uncertain. 

however, there is another unique circumstance in this fight. attacking the lost souls will result in all attacks missing. unlike in sans’ fight, none of the lost souls move to dodge or avoid frisk’s attack. it is possible that this is simply the nature of the battle, given that frisk cannot land a hit on asriel either. however, frisk has shown to be able to hold back on fight in undyne’s fight, so it’s not too far a stretch to believe frisk can intentionally miss as well. frisk may be refusing to hit the lost souls, despite being commanded to do so by the player.

conclusion

what these events demonstrate is that while frisk is under the player’s control, they can resist the control in certain situations because they are free from the negative impact of murder. this theory supports the ideas that:

frisk is more than just a puppet, and has their own sense of agency

frisk is kind and nonviolent at their core

the player (and chara) has far less influence over frisk in a pacifist route when there are no kills

I've been reading way too much into everything about the Knight and one thing that immediately caught my attention was the way it poses. I think everybody agrees that its weapon is either Dess' bat or Carol's katana but both of those are supposed to be used with both hands so the poses don't match the way either of them are used. People are joking about auramaxxing but genuinely, it seems almost like it's a dance. And then it hit me. We know that Dess plays like. every sport. She's particularly associated with baseball and hockey (thanks Kris for beating me up with a hockey stick) and we know for a fact she has at least two pairs of ice skates - one in her closet and one under her bed.

So what if the skates aren't just for hockey. What if she also does figure skating? Look at the Knight's poses next to figure skaters.

And obviously ice skating is a winter sport so it really matches the Holiday theme.

Gosh I hate grind culture. My little sister just started medical school and all of her orientation leaders are like “you absolutely cannot have a life WHATsoever you WILL have to give up EVERYTHING besides this program say GOODBYE to your hobbies and relationships” and now she’s calling me feeling guilty for running and going to the grocery store and that’s just WRONG! And that is exactly what I was told starting law school as well, and rejecting that mentality was the best thing I ever did but it was so hard not to buy into. Anyway if any of you are in an intense academic program PLEASE take time to sleep and eat and exercise and maintain your relationships and keep up your hobbies! you are not a robot who exists solely to study and I promise that living a life and staying physically and mentally healthy is not going to make you fail

as you are a resident kris dreemur fan, what do you think kris thinks of tenna? ive seen people say they hate him, some people act like theyre siblings, some people noted his similarities to asgore and assigned him father figure, but tbh none of these feel right. i personally think kris dislikes him, mostly due to him putting the entire dreemur family drama on blast all of chapter 3, but i dont think they hate him.

also, as funny as the tenna child of divorce stuff is, i kinda feel weird about it somewhat overshadowing kris being a child divorce. its probably just recency bias since tennas a shiny new character and all, but like. hes the family tv, not toriel and agores child.

yeah I think Kris is unfortunately uncomfortable with him, in some ways for the same reasons they were uncomfortable with early Ralsei (before his reasons became clearer); they've buried their own "oh god please need and want me" deep, and seeing the Darkners that reflect it back at them loudly and obviously kind of leaves them deeply uncomfortable. you're not allowed to ask for that out loud. you just have to exist and hope.

the divorce was awful. all their friends are gone. so what? will begging actually fix anything? why do you think there's some way to go back? stop it. stop being so loud about it. what if someone hears and knows. what if someone learns what we are. stop.

it's painful. it's hard. but Kris can't be the one to help him, not when they want all the same things he does and they've given up hope for them all.

and yeah I'll be honest some of the "tenna definitely raised Kris and shielded them from the fights and shared their trauma" like. i find a lot of them very touching. but he wasn't actually there in a form that could reach beyond their imagination, beyond the world of waving around laptops and cards and giving them voices.
