Tommy’s mother in Goodfellas (1990) was played by the director, Martin Scorcese’s real life mother, Catherine Scorsese, who had never acted a scene in her life. 

The painting she shows to Jimmy and Henry was inspired by a picture out of National Geographic from 1978. 

She also cooked the food on the table for the scene.
