Hands do make it more creepy.
Was The Spirit In The Temple Malevolent?
[Animation by @samleewins]
There’s been a lot of confusion and theorizing over what the spirit in “Azula in the Spirit Temple” wanted. What were its motivations?
Azula antis claim the spirit “offered her redemption” but was that really what it was doing? It certainly doesn’t seem like it. Nothing the spirit did gave Azula an opportunity to change. All it kept doing was trying to pacify and placate her.
Any self-reflection Azula did came only as a result of how off-putting it was to have everything she ever wanted juxtaposed with what she knew to be true and what she feared to be true.
So what was the spirit’s motivation?
In the end it becomes a horrendous monster and claims it’s taking a form that represents Azula. But this is strange, isn’t it? After all, Azula already has a “monster form” to represent her in the show.
It’s a blue dragon.
[Azula: Sleeeep Zuko. Sleep just like mother!]
The spirit, by comparison, looks more like a centipede.
[The hands make it so much creepier!]
So if the spirit wasn’t being completely honest, what was it really and what did it actually want? It certainly seemed malevolent by the end.
It kinda reminds me of something…
This is an Omukade. It’s a Japanese yokai or demon and it takes the form of a giant centipede although it’s also sometimes depicted with human features or as able to disguise itself as people.
[Gross. People really like monsters, don’t they?]
[That’s better. Terrifying, but better].
So what do Omukade usually want?
Well, they’re man-eaters. They love to eat humans, though they’re also known to torment dragons.
What does the spirit in the comic want to do? It wants Azula to rest. To sleep. To “find peace” and relax.
Seeing as Azula is both human and represented by a dragon, it stands to reason that such a monster would be especially drawn to such delectable prey.
Far from rejecting real redemption, it seems Azula rightfully saw through a threat and narrowly escaped through the strength of her own will.
Still, the experience has clearly affected her. Let’s hope for the better!
Poor girl. Zuko got Iroh and you got monster spirits. Life just won’t give Azula a break!

Another ignorant person who doesn't know Azula is ontologically evil, literally the devil reincarnate, clinically insane, a hateful bitch AND on her period 100% of the time. I can say this as an official Avatar expert.
The government doesn't want you to know this but I made the entire show by myself in secret, using paint but only watched the last two episodes, where she clearly is the definition of, what some people call, a crazy ass bitch.
The only reason why her character is even introduced is to show how much of a crazy bitch she is, and for the audience, at least those who pay attention, to hate her without condition or nuance.
"The writing is atrocious even for a cash-grab mobile game."
Woah, that's like... Hitting under the belt. Not cool bro.
Avatar Generations game: New Team Azula story drop...
Okkkkkk it's not like Azula's character hasn't been butchered a hundred times over now already... let's take a look! I'm sure it will be good :D
Wow. Ok we are clearly off to a great start... Honestly, I didn't think they'd blow it THIS soon into the story. Why is she shouting?? Moreover why is she embarrassing herself shouting this in front of her soldiers?? TV show Azula only needed to shoot someone one look and they'd fall in line. this makes her look so weak.
Ok ok, good ol' detective Azula has got her gears turning a usual. Not bad so far. maybe it was just a fluke back there, maybe this story won't be so bad...
I spoke too soon o__o
What? is she on her period or something?? I mean I get it, this isn't a well thought out procedure. He could be letting citizens trick him out of paying tax, but her reaction here is ridiculous. It's completely OOC, even when the governor let every citizen walk right out of the city from an obviously feigned epidemic and swipe his own son as a bargaining chip in the process, Azula remained composed and diplomatic. It’s a known fact that staying calm and controlled in difficult situations is a key part of Azula’s character, why do writers keep confusing her with her brother??
...wait WHAT?? why is she attacking THESE random people now?? What did THEY do???
What's with the wild Azula expressions??
Ya'll...
It’s like the writers watched Sozin’s Comet and were like “oh… forgot calm and controlled she’s actually totally unhinged, I guess that means we have to sprinkle said unhingedness into random parts of the writing to fit this part of her character in” (quite like COUGH* the Search and COUGH* Smoke and Weed)
I would like to point out that the WHEN and WHY said unhingedness appears does matter. You can’t have her acting like this for just any dumb reason, the fact remains that staying calm and controlled is STILL part of her character but this self control can break in regards to losing her friends and family. Any one can have a mental breakdown but they don’t have it for no reason. At the time of her stay in Omashu, Azula did not have her breakdown yet so it makes no sense for her to be acting this way.
I find it funny that Ty Lee is acting a bit like the angel on Azula’s shoulder here, you’ll see Mai do this a bit too as the story goes, the fact is nether of them ever had an issue with helping Azula beat the crap out of people, in fact they seemed to ENJOY it, we see Ty Lee smiling for every fight in the series and Mai was more then willing to help Azula with her dirty work so long as she escaped boredom.
The only time we see Mai and Ty Lee looking bothered about what they are doing with Azula is when it looks like Zuko will die. CONTEXT folks, the when and the why characters act how they do matters. They are upset for once because Zuko and them GREW UP together, there’s a connection there. We never see them show concern for Earth Kingdom people though.
anyways, back to the story...
Doesn't Azula have better things to do?? She’s a freaking princess y’all she was always tackling the big fish in the series, in the grand scheme of things this just looks like a huge waste of time. If she really wanted to fix the tax collection procedural problems she would go to the governor to sort it out like she did in the series, not go chasing after random peasants.
TO BE CONTINUED IN PART 2… (because tumblr won’t let me post more then 30 photos XP)

I estimate one could fit a couple of Megazulas inside the netto volume equivalent of that big ass vase, if we assume we can stack them in the most efficient manner, as well as putting, roughly speaking, a few billion kilopascal on it.
Look how smol she is. That pot-thing is bigger than her; like you can fit like five tiny Azulas into that vase.

Got your back, bro. ("Brotha" -> see third mustache)
When Zuko grew a mustache Azula could do nothing but stare in awe at him. Her brother looked so weird having it but it looked nice on him at the same time.
I'm gonna be honest, I can't even begin to imagine Zuko with a mustache, I have no idea what it would look like XD
But obviously Azula would like it, he's her Zuzu after all.
Thanks for the ask ^^
