Friendship goes a long way ❤
Nine months in the making. Here it is! Here is my celebratory "new Kirby game release" illustration for Kirby Star Allies, and boy, what a big one! I feel like I say this every time, but this has to be one of the most detailed Kirby pictures I've made to date.
And I don't say that willy-nilly! The size of this picture actually started off twice as big as the final version, but ended up being too big for my art programs to handle. This time I really focused on details I wouldn't normally have done in the past, like stitching and other textures. I also tried a new way of rendering to accentuate the colors and make things pop more. Gone are some of my typical conventions like colored lines and white, sticker-like outlines in favor of more striking lineart. Characters are shinier, bolder, and louder if I say so myself.
As usual, I also made a process video for it! It’s a big’un!
youtube
You might've noticed a little teaser at the end of the video. Just as Kirby Star Allies has had updates added over time, I think it'd be cool to parallel that with this illustration. Don't think you've seen the last of this picture yet...
As always, thank you immensely for your support. It makes me happy to excite people with my artwork, and I hope this one was a real treat that was well worth the wait.

Here’s an Off the Hook pic in celebration of yesterday’s Splatfest and the one-year anniversary of Splatoon 2!
A couple years ago I did a portrait of the Squid Sisters, and ever since Splatoon 2 released I've been getting comments asking for me to do an Off the Hook one. There are quite a lot of parallels between the two aside from being companion pieces: To name a few, both were done and posted on July 22, were done in celebration of a Splatfest, and were done while working on a big Kirby illustration (which is coming soon!).

The split evolution that never saw the light of day.
I noticed this guy in the recently uncovered collection of beta Pokémon Gold/Silver designs. An actual Shellder evolution based on what it turns into with Slowbro would be so cool!
As a side note, I quite like this brush that I found to draw these guys. Wouldn’t mind drawing more in this style.

My name is Kyle! I'm an art school graduate who loves Nintendo, bold lines, and colors.
#artvsartist trends again! I did one of these back in 2016 and it’s super cool to compare me and my art from back then to now (even though a good amount of these pictures are from 2016).
From the top left going clockwise, here are the separate images (there are a couple I don’t have links to yet though):
Kirby: Planet Robobot
Squid Sisters
Junkrat
Star Allies abilities
Walk Through the Rain
EarthBound Beginnings party

I totally forgot to post these here! Drew all the new abilities just in time for the release of Kirby Star Allies! The game is fantastic and I’m still playing it a whole lot. I do have a bigger illustration and time-lapse video on its way, though, just you wait!

Inktober 2017 starts tomorrow and I’ll be continuing my Kirby Copy Ability project! Here’s a collection of what I accomplished last year~
If you’d like to follow along as I do this, I’ll be posting them on my Twitter account!
If you’re wondering where some abilities are, take a look at the list I’m using! Abilities are alphabetical and chronologically by game, with some similar abilities being cut (Fireball and Freeze are similar to Fire and Ice, etc.).

So, I have an important update on my Kirby 25th anniversary picture. Read on for more.
First of all, for those who don’t know, back in 2012 I made a big picture celebrating Kirby’s 20th anniversary, and it along with the time-lapse drawing video I made with it were overwhelmingly well-received. I’ve sorta had that reputation under my belt; people are still discovering the video for the first time and being just as amazed as people were when I first posted it. I knew I wanted to do something similar in the future for other Kirby anniversary milestones.
So that’s why I treat this topic as a big thing, as it’s sorta the ‘sequel’ to what people consider to be my magnum opus. Anyways, it’s a week until October, which means there’s just about three months of 2017 left. I’ve made it clear that I’ve started working on this new picture celebrating Kirby’s 25th, and even shared some sketches of it on my Patreon. But the more I work through it and plan more out, the more I’m beginning to realize that, with how ambitious of a project it is, I just don’t think three months on and off is gonna be enough time.
And that’s entirely my fault because of how late into the year I started working on this. It wasn’t until well into the second half of the year that I actually started putting down thoughts on paper, even though I had plans to do this since last year. I could go on about how I’ve felt really unmotivated this year but that’s a topic for another time.
The feeling of not being able to get the picture done in time for the 25th anniversary has dawned on me for a while now, and while I’ve thought about just making it a 26th anniversary thing instead, I feel like that would undermine the reason why I’m doing it in the first place. I know I haven’t given that many details on what the picture’s gonna be like outside of Patreon, but it really is something of a scope for a milestone thing.
So what do I do? Well, I’ve done some thinking the other day. I might just put this on hold until the 30th anniversary, and that pains me because we’re talking waiting five more years to execute this really neat idea I have. But again, I really think this project should be saved for a special occasion. Who knows what my life will be like in five years (heck, in the five years after I made my 20th anniversary picture I started and graduated college with so much new artistic skill), but one thing I know for sure is that I don’t doubt at all that I’ll be willing to make a celebratory 30th anniversary Kirby drawing. Maybe five years will let me polish my concept even more. I just want this to be the best it can be.
Holding off on this project will take a big load off me, though. It’ll let me focus on making other things and even different pictures for the 25th anniversary, like continuing my Copy Ability Inktober project I started last year, maybe an entirely different (but manageable) picture and time-lapse video. Getting an actual job is a priority of mine above all else, too, and that’ll definitely eat up time. I don’t want to feel like I’m stuck forced to work on nothing but one project just to maybe get it done by the end of the year.
I just have to start thinking realistically about how much I can do in how much time. If I worked for hours every day making continuous progress, maybe there’s a chance of getting this done in three months, but that’s not possible for me. Working on it has been a little stressful in all honesty too.
Hopefully this all makes sense and you can see where I’m coming from. It was a really hard decision, but at the end of the day it’s not the end of the world (still my fault though!). I just felt the need to make a post like this because a lot of people are looking forward to this. I’m disappointed I wasn’t able to pull it off this year, but hey, things happen and go wrong, and that’s when you have to improvise and make the best out of a dumb situation. Keep an eye out for more stuff from me the rest of this year, though, as I’ll definitely take the opportunity and actually do a little something to make up for all this. Thanks, guys.
But also, April 27, 2022. Remember that date.

Are there any plans to make the Swoobird sticker available on your Redbubble? I got one when you were giving them out but mine's in rough shape and I'd like to get a replacement (or two!) and support an awesome artist while I'm at it. (And I know there is a Swoobird sticker available there but I ask because it's not the same one)
I can do that. Check back in the next few days or so~

Some rewards for helping me out include but aren’t limited to:
Being able to vote and suggest material for time-lapse drawing videos!
Highest-quality resolutions and wallpaper versions of my illustrations!

Check it out when you have the chance! I’m excited to start this up and get some direct involvement from you guys. More features will be added over time.
Thanks for your consideration, and all shares and reblogs are much appreciated~

"Now, the story mentioned some kind of "Dark Matter"...hmm, wonder what that could be..."
I'm back with another Kirby painting! This time, it's based around one of my favorite scenes in the series: the bad ending of Kirby's Dream Land 2. It's actually a remake of a drawing I did way back in 2009! I haven't done many remakes before, but it's an amazing way to see improvement. This painting is proof that practice goes a long way, and you should never give up on yourself.
Like my Tilt 'n' Tumble piece from a few years ago, this was also made for another Kirby fan art book I got to be a part of! If you're interested in purchasing it, check out @kirbyzine.
This painting was great environmental practice, and really tested my coloring abilities with how muted of a palette it has. Had some frustrations, but ended up being really satisfied with the finished piece~

The unfazed android enters the scene with only one thing on the mind: completing the mission quickly and efficiently!
I've done a lot of Nintendo art over the years, but every once in a while a non-Nintendo game catches my extreme interest; in this case, NieR:Automata. I've had the chance to play the very beginning of the game (which is what the background of this piece was inspired by), but it's times like these that make me wish I had another console!
Regardless, 2B's design and the overall flavor of the game are quite elegant. It's all pretty different from my usual stuff but it was fun to explore that!
