How do you know a place to call home?
-Where you don’t have to leave your clothes on-

Hold on to that joy
For without it, everything is harder
Your heart, your worship, your life

Keep your madness
You laugh your words Unserious they say Yet your land stays unconquered, Right on key with Joy
You dance your walk Flighty they say Yet you climbed slippery slopes with steady feet, right in step with joy
The world throws questions You know the answer How you found healing in your dance And your freedom is intertwined with laughter They will keep their sneers You will keep your madness

Time, healing, Love
Time works its healing Maybe one day Maybe a thousand years You don't fret
Your Heart is learning Cry it all out Leap into the deep end If the grounds under you aren't strong enough
And when the morning comes, Maybe you will need help off the bed Maybe you'll awake leaping Time, healing, Love

Dear one, be patient
Young one, be patient Life needs more than a day to happen Give little thought to how it all comes together Find your comfort in only one knowing: It all works together for your good Beloved, Fret not Go ahead: feel it all This is not all there is Put all your heart into that laughter There is a lot more happiness to come Darling, don’t hold back But your favourite songs on repeat Don’t hide your best clothes for too long Look at the flowers, Look at the birds Tomorrow will bring its own joys Dear one, give all All of your heart to today All of your back to that work All of your will to that love All of you to this thing called living One day at a time One day at a time

A mother gone
She spoke about crawling into her mother's bed falling asleep under sagging arm flesh She spoke about her head stuffed in an old wrapper Fingers burrowing through mass of thick hair She spoke about nagging talks and constant payers She spoke about home built in ever welcoming eyes She spoke unceremoniously of things you swore you'd throw a party for She spoke and you learnt of times that never came for you She spoke and you heard new prayers to make Prayers for hands that feel like they cradled you She spoke and you felt new type of gratitude Gratitude for how one can be lacking and yet be whole

Guarding joy...
You, protect that joy Let them gnaw and nudge and threaten and all But you, never give it up Never give up your spring.
They come along with lies Asking that you lay your joy aside for a little while Saying "This is the way to adult" O, little one, just skip along
Do not listen to those lies You don't need to go, even if only for a little while, where your joy can't come along There's no life there
Ignore those voices Father's works will always require your joy Piety does not equal sadness Joyfully serve your Love
So, go on Hold on to that joy For without it, everything is harder Your heart, your worship, your life

When healing hurts...
You swore you were ready But here you are, needing help You signed up for just healing Why then does it hurt?
You caught a familiar whiff These look like the same roads The painful memories confirm... You've been here before
Every part of you revolts They won't be fooled twice So your feet prepare you for flight But there is this peace...
Madness erupts in your bones A storm ravages your heart Belly is on a rampage Yet this peace stays...
Listen...don't fret Hear what it speaks
"Glory is here Bringing with it A healing from memories You finding new skin where scars used to be
Glory is here To dress your festered wounds This will hurt, you will cry But it is healing, still"

Keep going
Hold your heart firm in its peace Though the world around you runs ahead
Hold your heart firm in its peace Though you lack a quest for the ‘morrow
Hold your heart firm in its peace Your faith as its anchor
One foot after the other One day after another Only a few more sleeps Then, suddenly it comes Needing no kindling Cold coals turning a blazing fire The sparkle back to those weary eyes There you go, burning again
