Hiruma and Mamori was perhaps the best fucking otp scenario in any shounen ever. Or at least for its time.

Nothing actually happened between them. Romance is not important in shounens. But it was so obvious, during the entire storyline and all their interactions, that it would happen. Clue after hint after nod to the audience. Even down to Mamori joining Hiruma in college. The best part is, we as the readers got to fill in the blanks. It was open season for how we saw their future. And they were dynamic characters in their own right, so depth was added in all of it.

Sorry I get so emotional thinking about them.

I didn't need anything else in the canon storyline, because I got to finish it in my mind. That manga about simple football did not need to go as hard as it did.

The only good one was the first draw with the over the top homosexual tension. And Void was way cool and super evil.

I can't figure out if ONE deliberately wrote all that romantic tension in to fuck with us, or he wanted it in but shounen jump told him no.
