Hey all! This petition, supported by a student group I’m in charge of (Queers United in Power) has just been released, and it details extensive trans and LGBTQ-discrimintory practices, as well as an overall lack of transparency, at UChicago’s Community Service Center (the UCSC).
We’d REALLY like to make this important student life center less spectacularly awful to trans and other LGBTQ+ students, so please please read, sign, and/or share widely if you are able! Seriously any signatures/reblogs/facebook posts/ other type of promotion would help! And thanks a ton!

‘Stonewall’ (2015) erases the history of people of color, trans people, queer women, queens, and many other identities of people who were actually there! It includes almost no cast members of color, incorrectly displays a white cisgender gay man throwing the first bottle, and uses a cisgender man to play Marsha P. Johnson. Sign the petition to boycott it!

the Trans Student Network
What is this / what is it for?
This is a Facebook group (set to the “secret” privacy setting) aiming to build a community and support system for trans and gender non-conforming college students (including those who have dropped out, are on leaves of absences, very recently graduated, and/or attend community college). It’s a space where people can share their struggles with school administrations, professors, and fellow students, look for and offer support, advice, and solidarity, build community, exchange clothes/binders/etc, connect each other to resources/health care/ housing, and more.
How do i join?
Three options: 1) Email [email protected] with your facebook name/account. I will then friend request you and add you to the Facebook group 2) Friend request Sara TSN on Facebook, and I will add you to the group 3) Have a friend already in the group add you, and I will confirm
Who can join?
Anyone who identifies as transgender or otherwise gender non-conforming (including those who identify as trans women, non-binary, genderqueer, agender, trans men, two-spirit, genderfluid, etc) and is, will be soon, or was recently attending college or university can join. This very much includes folks who are attending community college, have recently dropped out, or are on leaves of absences.
To keep the scope of this group reasonably specific,it is primarily for those attending school in the US and those pursuing undergraduate or 2 year education rather than graduate studies. However, this isn’t set in stone, and if there’s a large demand for that to change it isn’t impossible.
In general, this is NOT a space for cis, non-questioning allies. Exceptions can be made rarely on a case-by-case basis (if, for example, a trans person doesn’t feel comfortable joining a FB group of mostly strangers without having their close friend who is cis also present)
Rules/Guidelines
It is crucial for this to be an actively anti-oppressive space. Therefore anti-blackness, transmisogyny, racism, ableism, homophobia, rape apologism, and other harmful behaviors will not be tolerated, and can be grounds for removal from the group. Survivors of sexual assault, rape, and abuse will be believed without doubt.
Advertising: promoting events/products/etc not related to trans students/transness in some way isn’t allowed, and such posts will be deleted. However, posting gofundme/ other fundraisers for yourself or other trans people looking to fund living expenses, medical transitions, projects, etc is definitely allowed! Also posting about relevant events and books/art/other media produced by trans folks is great
More rules will be added if/when necessary, so feel free to contact me if you think something else ought to be here.
Note
A bit about me– my name is Sara, and I use they/them/their or xe/xem/xyr pronouns. I’m a rising 4th year undergraduate student at the University of Chicago, and I’m starting this group because I think/hope a space like this could be helpful to a lot of people.
However, since this is a brand-new group I am currently the one and only admin, which I would like to change in the very near future. This is for several reasons. One, hopefully this will grow to the point that admin-ing will become a lot of work for one person
Two, I’m going to be graduating next June and will thus no longer be a college student
Finally–and most importantly–I am a highly privileged, very non-representative trans person (I’m white, well-off, dfab, have highly suppportive parents, and attend an “"elite”“ university), and I think it’s absolutely crucial for this group to be primarily lead by, and centered around, trans people of more marginalized identities and experiences then mine (particularly transfeminine folks and trans people of color). I definitely realize that this is a problem right now and will be working to address that (and then take a seat !) asap
Questions/Comments/Concerns Email me at [email protected] , or message me on Facebook. I promise to not tone police or deflect criticism, particularly if it relates to axis of oppression that I do not share!

US Trans Survey!
Hey all! If you're trans/ non-binary/etcThe #USTransSurvey is now available to complete! This is actually v important, so please take the time to fill it out it if you're able. A word of caution that it does ask about potentially upsetting topics (including sexual violence, suicide, harassment, etc), with appropriate content warnings before everything, but still, make sure you have the available spoons and are in a reasonably good environment before working on it. The link is here: www.ustranssurvey.org

UNFUNNY TRANSPHOBIC TROPES + TRANS COMEDY
SUBSCRIBE to Kat Blaque : http://bit.ly/1D3jwSF
From Ace Ventura’s Lois Einhorn to crossdressing solidiers in Disney’s Mulan, transmisogynistic tropes have been a central part of contemporary comedy. Transgender representation has come a long way, so do these tropes still have a place in comedy?
In this video, I discuss transphobia in comedy and offer up some great trans comedians to look out for.
