Every time I rewatch twisters and I see the scene with Javi and Kate in the truck where the chicken coop hit them, I see more of what the ef5 did to them in the beginning scene.

We can all see Kate's trauma quite plainly, even if she's getting better with what she does when she sees a twister. But I wanna talk about Javi and his trauma.

When the twister starts to chase them they are both pretty frantic and want to get out of the way asap, as they should. But Javi gets way worse after the chicken coop hits, he tries to keep a steady head and does the best he can to keep going to safety. While Kate looks like she's starting to disassociate.

After the coop hits and Javi is trying to make a joke, he realizes he can't keep going and is gonna start to freak out himself. So he backs up into the ditch with the trees in the back and parks. He then looks at what's happening til the car is covered in dust and all they can do is listen. Javi puts his head down near Kate's and you can hear him say "talk to me". And it's quite clear both are in their own heads and trauma, that takes them awhile to kinda get back to the present, considering what's going on at least.
