Last year, The HRC (Human Rights Campaign), reported that in 2019 alone, at least 26 trans and gender nonconforming people were killed in the United States alone. Disproportionately, Black trans people were the victims. Those I have illustrated here, do not even scratch the surface of what is, and should be recognised as, an epidemic. Now, more than ever, it is crucial that we do whatever we can to support the black trans community.

✨ JUSTICE for #DominiqueRemmieFells 🌹 JUSTICE for #RiahMilton ✨Two fallen angels, two sisters in struggle who have finally found peace. Dominique “Rem’mie” Fells of Philadelphia, PA was only 27. Riah Milton of Liberty Township, OH was only 25. Both were stolen from our world before their time, victims of the transphobic hate and violence that continues to terrorize our communities while the world watches silently. Dominique and Riah were killed within a 24 hour period, and news of their murders reached the LGBTQIA+ community as we mourned our 49 stolen siblings who were murdered 4 years ago at Pulse nightclub in Orlando. Meanwhile, the Trump administration has rolled out new hateful policies to further push trans PoC to the margins. All lives cannot matter until BLACK TRANS LIVES MATTER - if we don’t fight for our most vulnerable, most marginalized and most stigmatized sisters & siblings, our revolution is no “revolution” at all.

This past Friday, Breonna Taylor should have turned 27 years old.

It has been nearly 3 months since she was murdered. The officers who shot her 8 times while she slept continue to wak free and carry their guns & badges. As a prison abolitionist, it’s difficult to throw support behind continuing to further the destruction of the prison industrial complex by convicting the officers who murdered Breonna. All I know is that while such a disproportionate number of Black people sit in prison, while minority communities are ravaged by the “war on drugs” (aka law enforcement’s calculated war on PoC), while the school-to-prison pipeline shoves children of color into jail cells, Breonna’s killers shouldn’t be able to steal her from this earth and remain unscathed and unaffected.

I demand justice in Breonna’s name. I demand that the police be ABOLISHED so that communities can invest in their own protection. Breonna was MURDERED, and the whole damn system is guilty as hell.
