We were retained by the Chetrit Group to provide architectural and interior design services in connection with the renovation of four loft buildings in the SoHo district of Manhattan. We were responsible for everything from the layouts of the apartments to the detailed design of the kitchens, bathrooms, lobbies and so forth.

PARK AVENUE LOFT

Working within the limitations of a largely existing layout, we have attempted to develop the character of the apartment to reflect the owner’s interest in early twentieth century architecture and design. An international businessman with several homes, his New York City residence is intended to showcase his important and growing art collection.

BeekMAN STREET

This large apartment had been combined from two smaller apartments by a previous owner. In reconfiguring the plans we developed a long gallery space – a circulation spine – which serves to connect a series of discrete rooms. This gallery, which was a “facade” for the display of art, connects the primary public area of the apartment to the entrance.

WALLKILL RIVER FARM

In restoring this late Federal brick farmhouse in the Hudson Valley, we sought to preserve and enhance the existing historical elements while providing a high degree of comfort and amenity. In addition to managing the construction of the project, we have been responsible for all aspects of the interior decoration and the assemblage of a collection of American furniture and decorative objects from the early eighteenth to the early nineteenth century.

Composer’s Loft

The requirements for this 4,000 SF loft for a noted Jazz musician/composer included the creation of a soundproof practice room, the accommodation of a large art collection and the client’s desire to have as open an environment as possible. The solution was to group the private and service functions around an existing plumbing core, the position of which together with movable screens would create separate areas as needed. The lighting and color palette were developed to enhance the overall plan layout.
