leaving this side of tumblr ✌️
having to be exposed to the recent racism, lesbian poll discourse, and spirituality discourse constantly despite my repeated culling in my list of people i follow is enough to ward me off from being here. i'd honestly rather do stuff with women i trust than waste my time with a group who care more about non-issues and arguing online and don't give a fuck about other women. this community is so disgustingly white, heterosexual, and male reformist that as a brown lesbian i wonder why i ever came back to this hellhole. so many people here are conservatives in thinly veiled disguises and i'm done allowing myself to be surrounded by this. i can't believe how many people have shown their true colors but it's a blessing in disguise because now i know not to waste my time here any longer. i really hope my nonwhite and lesbian sisters wake up too and depart from this shitshow, instead of trying to painstakingly carve a niche out for themselves in an environment that doesn't welcome or care about them.
i'm going to keep working on the site because i know other women and actual feminists deserve a hub, that hasn't changed. but it won't be shared here. thanks to the women who showed interest, if we've dm'd i'll keep talking to you about it but i'm no longer posting. bye

‘Why I never want babies’
An increasing number of South Korean women are choosing not to marry, not to have children, and not even to have relationships with men. With the lowest fertility rate in the world, the country’s population will start shrinking unless something changes.
“I have no plans to have children, ever,” says 24-year-old Jang Yun-hwa, as we chat in a hipsterish cafe in the middle of Seoul.
“I don’t want the physical pain of childbirth. And it would be detrimental to my career.”
Like many young adults in South Korea’s hyper-competitive job market, Yun-hwa, a web comic artist, has worked hard to get where she is and isn’t ready to let all that hard graft go to waste.
“Rather than be part of a family, I’d like to be independent and live alone and achieve my dreams,” she says.
When I put it to her that if she and her contemporaries don’t have children her country’s culture will die, she tells me that it’s time for the male-dominated culture to go.
“Must die,” she says, breaking into English. “Must die!”

So let me get things in order….trans men are “privileged” if they pass, because of ‘cis’ or ‘male’ privilege…but…trans men are “privileged” if they don’t pass because of ‘tme privilege’ or ‘female privilege’. Interesting interesting. And trans women are supposedly oppressed no matter how they look male/female? Ah.

Started in late 1993, and early 1994, Women in the Life, LLC., an events management company, carved out safe spaces for Black lesbians to interact through dance parties, concerts, and open mic poetry sessions. Long before social media existed, Women in the Life connected Black lesbians in D.C., across the northeast corridor, across the United States, and ultimately around the world. Women in the Life magazine started out as a four-page newsletter and evolved over a ten-year period into a 26-page glossy cover magazine that was saddle-stitched and printed on heavy stock paper. If it affected Black lesbians the magazine covered it: art, politics, literature, history, relationships, family, and sexuality. Black culture. Black pride. Black life. https://digdc.dclibrary.org/islandora/object/dcplislandora:254140

Sometimes it just makes me deeply, helplessly angry that we don't even have a word for women that doesn't originate from "wife man". And then I get into a spiral of realising over again just how powerful language is, and how immensely saturated it is with both subtle and overt misogyny. And THEN I get into a spiral of how unbelievably long "women" have been subjected to misogyny that we literally don't have a word for women that doesn't position us as property of men.

I will never be able to fully express how being a lesbian is not considered cool and sexy to average people, who aren't terminally online. It considered especially disgusting to people when you're a woman who doesn't look like a super model or actress. People are shocked and appalled at the thought you want to eat the pussy of an ordinary girl whose like a waitress or something. People are grossed out that two women who might be fat, masc with stretch marks/scars or without makeup etc find each other completely attractive and have completely fulfilling sex for themselves. Lesbianism that is devoid of the male gaze repulses people. It's why lesbians are rarely fully represented in media. It's not sexy anymore if it's not two straight thin decorated actresses directed by a man. They so mad when we want each other and don't care to meet their beauty standards or need their approval.

If women all around the United States turned off their television sets for an extended period of time and purchased no products other than the very basic necessities to protest exploitation of women ... these actions would have significant political and economic consequences. Since women are not thoroughly organised and are daily manipulated by ruling male groups who profit from sexism and female consumerism, we have never exercised this power. Most women do not understand the forms of power they could exercise. They need political education for critical consciousness.
