And indeed, true to form, it is with (the threat of) losing Padmé that Anakin succumbs to the Dark Side and assumes his Sith title, even denying that his true name means anything anymore.
But Padmé still haunts the narrative in the decades after her death: the Rebel Alliance she helped found is still fighting her war, and her children who share her relentless compassion and strength are with them.
Padmé may no longer be physically alive, but she is still there in spirit. And thus, by the same logic, Anakin Skywalker still exists, and it is the physical manifestation of their love that brings about and drives the return of his own spirit.
