I've been thinking about Luffy's gear forms and now that we have all 5 of them, I'm wondering why Gear 4 looks like that? Like, all the black. Do you have any Melon Wisdom and Insight? Also wondering if you can identify any connecting themes throughout them!

My assumption is because his Gear 4 forms are the colour of his haki, since his Gear 4 forms only came about due to training his haki with Rayleigh. Each time he unleashes a new Gear 4 form he thinks about Rayleigh (milf moment) and how he used/can use his haki. I'm not entirely sure where Luffy's inspiration for bound man came from, from what I can remember it mostly came from him telling Rayleigh "If I can't punch something...I will just punch harder!" which I guess makes sense because Bound Man is totally focused in strengthening Luffy's upper body. I also like that, in the anime, Bound Man makes a sound almost like a bell whenever he lands on the ground. I'm unsure if the manga sound effects incorporate the bell sound too, but I like to think this is a connection to the bell in Skypiea as the ringing of the bell was a sign of freedom, love and liberation.

As for Snake Man, this seemed to be a form created in the moment while versing Katakuri, and I really LOVE Snake Man (being sexy aside) because Snake Man seems to be the near exact same size as Katakuri. Luffy and Katakuri's powers are VERY similar, and Luffy really admired/respected Katakuri, so it seems to me Luffy channelled his observation haki into creating Snake Man, and the inspiration for Snake Man's appearance was right in front of him - Katakuri!

So overall, I think Luffy's two Gear 4 forms were more a result of channelling his haki, while Gear 5 is the unlocking of his fruit's true power. Using his haki alongside his fruit, Luffy could shift his body in any way he wanted, and this is a really good test/build up to Gear 5, where he can truly do ANYTHING to not just himself, but to the environment around him!

I had thought about if Luffy had recruited the Strawhats in a different order and they got to see different crewmates origins/events leading up to becoming pirates, and well-

Zoro's whole first-meeting ordeal might have left a different first-impression with Sanji

I gotta say I'm obsessed with what Luffy does to the typical "sunshine" character trope, in that he's an exception to the usual portrayal but perhaps the most true to it of anyone. He's not "sunshine" as in pure niceness and sweetness and innocence. He's sunshine as in The Sun.

He's joy and light and warmth, illuminating all the beauty of the world, but he's also powerful enough to kill and blind and burn. He's an everyday annoyance. He's the strongest force of nature that exists. His happiness shines bright for miles. So does his rage. You could look at him wrong and be screwed up for life. You never want to live without him.

I can't get over this.
