Hey guys, I thought Id try out a little history thing to go along with the Outsiders locations and to add some Tulsa into your imagines :). If you guys like these I might make some more too.
In the 1960s Tulsa had three major channels that aired everyday, all three of which still air to this day. The channels were KVOO, KOTV, and KTUL.
KVOO, also know as Channel 2, had a small news program that aired throughout the day at intermittent times. Between the news segments they hosted popular shows such as a Gilligan’s Island and Gunsmoke, as well as a few kiddie shows like Uncle Hiram and Big Bill and Oom-A-Gog (Oom-a-Gog was the robotic ‘co-host’ that came lumbering out on stage periodically during the show). On Friday and Saturday evenings during the mid to late 60s there was the Fantastic Theatre, a sci-fi/horror movie program, which aired around 11pm.
KOTV, Channel 6, (the test pattern was shown on the tv beside Two Bit after the rumble), was pretty much all news and was the place to go for quick updates for what was happening across Tulsa, something that hasn’t changed much since. The showing of TV shows and movies was more rare than on KVOO, but they did have a few, including Lee Woodward and King Lionel kiddie show and another sci-fi/horror movie program named Shock Theatre.
KTUL, “Channel 8′s the Place”, is the secondary big news channel, this channel used more news shows like Good Morning Tulsa along with the news program. The world news is also shown on this channel. They had their own kiddie shows and sci-fi/horror movie program, Plenty Scary Movie, that aired at 11:30 and was popular for showing Star Trek after the news.
Reblogging some of my old headcanons to make the rounds again
The Outsiders Headcanon #5; Chicken Noodle Casserole Night
The gang LOVES chicken noodle casserole night.
Mrs Curtis used to make it around the beginning of each month. She would keep it a secret about when exactly she would be cooking it, and then liked timing everyone in the gang to see how long it took them to find out and come up with some excuse to come by and “just happen” to be there around dinner.
Nobody missed chicken noodle casserole night. One memorable time even saw Tim and Curly stop by for some. Mrs Curtis forced them to take home some leftovers because she thought they were too skinny (though honestly she didnt have to ask twice).
When the Curtis parents died, the casserole stopped being made for a long time. No one thought it could be made nearly as well without Mrs Curtis humming Elvis over it while Mr Curtis played the piano.
One day, while cleaning the kitchen, Darry found his mothers handwritten recipe for the casserole. He showed it to Soda and Pony, and they all decided to hang it on the fridge to remember their parents by. Later that night, Pony had a really bad nightmare. To make him feel better, Darry decided to make the casserole.
Somehow, the gang knew. They showed up at the Curtis house one by one, in the middle of the night. The whole gang settled together in the living room with big bowls of the casserole, and shared their favorite memories of the Curtis parents. That night of bonding and happiness gained a very special spot in each of the boy’s hearts and memories
Darry now carries on the tradition of making the meal at the beginning of the month for the gang
Got another copy of the book for free at a garage sale this past weekend ("because everyone should read") to add to my collection. Which means the brain rot is back. Feels good to come back home to this fandom
