say it with me ‘just because i have uncomfy feelings about a certain topic doesn’t make the point invalid. in fact, i should sit in my discomfort and consider WHY i feel that way, and WHY i feel the need to respond aggressively in regards to certain conversations (or actively avoid them). AND maybe consider that my emotional response is my subconscious battling with my own preconceived notions i’ve based entirely on my emotions without considering facts OR the experiences other human beings.’
this is called growth. living in a bubble does not help you grow as a person and growth is necessary in order to maintain a healthy sense of self. don’t fear it, don’t run from it, and you’ll be better for it. ❀
(also let’s use reading comprehension here, you know what this applies to and what it doesn’t)

"Do you ever dream of land?" The whale asks the tuna.
"No." Says the tuna, "Do you?"
"I have never seen it." Says the whale, "but deep in my body, I remember it."
"Why do you care," says the tuna, "if you will never see it."
"There are bones in my body built to walk through the forests and the mountains." Says the whale.
"They will disappear." Says the tuna, "one day, your body will forget the forests and the mountains."
"Maybe I don't want to forget," Says the whale, "The forests were once my home."
"I have seen the forests." Whispers the salmon, almost to itself.
"Tell me what you have seen," says the whale.
"The forests spawned me." Says the salmon. "They sent me to the ocean to grow. When I am fat with the bounty of the ocean, I will bring it home."
"Why would the forests seek the bounty of the oceans?" Asks the whale. "They have bounty of their own."
"You forget," says the salmon, "That the oceans were once their home."

Some after "Sinners" reading material if you're interested in Black American and Indigenous History (and the immigrants who came over, too). I put in the Jones-Rogers book too so y'all won't think the 58% had no serious role in shaping the horrors of America.

it really frustrates me to think about how people are inevitably going to take Remmick’s one (1) singular statement about how much he resents the way the Irish were colonized and forcibly converted to Christianity and use it as fuel for “actually he had a point” and “he was right actually” and “he’s not really the villain here” posts, when the whole point is that Remmick is, through the vampiric hive mind he’s creating, forcibly assimilating people into yet another manipulative and parasitical system. he doesn't value the cultures of the people he assimilates—notice how all the vampires he turns dance to his culture's music using his culture's dances, and how he only uses the languages or knowledge other vampires have to offer when he needs to manipulate someone. Remmick is extremely transparent about the way he sees the people he turns as resources to exploit.
he’s perpetuating a cycle that he claims to hate and resent, and I think the movie is pretty damn clear about the fact that he doesn’t see anybody as valuable or useful to him except as prey and as pawns—otherwise he would just, you know, focus solely on people who actually consent to being turned. but he looked sad in that one scene and he’s an apparently attractive white cis man so people are gonna bend over backwards justifying all the harm he did.

im in disbelief at the fact that a lot of folks are simply over palestine. like protests are dwindling down. people are not very interested in news related to gaza. some are simply over it.
israel hasn't let aid in gaza in 70 days. gaza has been starving for 70 days. the condition of people there is horrendous.
i find it distressing to think about children in gaza. how does one continue to have a childhood in a genocide? they don't have school. they don't have safety. they don't have food.
despite all this, the kids will be alright. they'll be alright once the genocide stops and they get back to 'normal'. till then, can we please try to support them however we can?
this fundraiser (verified) helps feed a family which includes two young children. please consider helping their mother take care of them.

That’s Louis Rossman, a repair technician and YouTuber, who went viral recently for railing against Apple. Apple purposely charges a lot for repairs and you either have to pay up or buy a new device. That’s because Apple withholds necessary tools and information from outside repair shops. And to think, we were just so close to change.

So wait are livestock guardian dogs to their flocks like
Clark Kent among the residents of Smallville? He’s been here since he was a baby, we all know him, and he’s
generally one-of-us shaped, uh, approximately. And then when something goes wrong he suddenly leaps into action and does some terrifying impossible shit none of us could do. And then comes back home and settles in like nothing happened and he’s one of us again.

The black reader tag has been so damn toxic lately. Why are you in the tag if you don’t like or get when the reader is specified as black. Why are black people expected to be inclusive to everyone but no one gives two thoughts to be inclusive to black people? Do y’all not understand that black people come in various types and just because the reader doesn’t talk like you do, dress like you do, and wear their hair like you do doesn’t mean they’re a stereotype. It’s been the same redundant conversation for weeks. JUST WRITE THE TYPE OF BLACK READER YOU WANT TO SEE, a lot of fan fiction is self indulgent so writers are writing themselves.

black reader discourse

I am quite frankly, very tired of seeing posts complaining about ‘hood’ Y/Ns and all of you coming out of the woodwork to proclaim that you don’t act this way and it’s disgusting to act this way and you hate fics where the reader wears wigs or acrylics or says the N-word and how all of these are just an inaccurate representation of our community. this is just very coon like behavior and is giving pick me.
yall know very well that fics including black women didn’t even exist until very recently. i’m grateful for every fic written whether it’s bad or good. either way they are contributing to the growth of a very niche community and helping establishing our presence here on this app. i’ve been on this app for like 12 years and I remember in the very early days when fics first started including black mc’s. no matter how the black mc was represented there would still be people in the mentions/comments like ‘eww gross you n***** why did you write this?’ or ‘this fic is so good but why is she black?’. we were quite literally fighting for our right to exist on this app.
hood culture is, like it or not, a big part of the black community and it’s not all negative. it’s a cultural movement that spawned from us being barred from white spaces and seen as the ‘inferior’ race no matter how we presented ourselves. hood girls deserve to see themselves in fiction just like everyone else. they deserve love without the implication that they need to imitate others/change themselves to seem more ‘civilized’. they aren’t bad people just because you don’t share the same style, vocab, interests and hobbies as they do.
whenever you bring this up you are giving non black people a free pass to insert themselves and say ‘yes omg so ghetto’. there are enough people against us. i would never help facilitate a conversation which further criticizes our community. especially when it’s related to very real people whose experiences you are trying to devalue.
