Handcrafted ring, ancient fossil set in oxidised (darkened) sterling silver.
Ammonites were squid like creatures of the ocean, their shells formed into segments in a beautiful natural spiral shape. The ammonite fossils which are found today could be up to around 240 million years old. They went extinct with dinosaurs 65 million years ago...
This ring is a glorious momentum to connect you to history and ancient past. This particular ammonite fossil was brought back with me from canada and has a matching half which I will set in silver in your chosen ring size. So your ring will be made especially for you!

Simple, modern, geometric hoops handcrafted using 1mm sterling silver wire. These hoops will match any outfit in their beautiful simplicity... The wire I used is slightly thicker than in most standard earrings (for extra strength) but will fit easily in normal ear lobe holes as well as many other piercings such as septum, helix, eyebrow, nose etc. The wire has also been hammered and tumbled so that the earrings keep their shape perfectly when worn. To put the earrings on, simply bend the wire horizontally and slide into your piercing, never bend the wire upwards as this would warp the shape. The large hoops measure approx 3 cm long, 2 cm wide The small hoops measure approx 1 1/2 cm long, 1 cm wide https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/226849597/geometric-hoops-sterling-silver?ref=shop_home_active_18

My First Workshop!
My first ever proper paid workshop was at the Tiger Yard Southampton, a 'not for profit' pop up shop on east street.
The organisers set up the shop to sell local art, jewellery, ceramics, clothes etc with a books for free corner and lots of yummy crafty workshops for people to have a go at! The Tiger Yard project was only for a month leading up to Christmas, there was such a buzz going about the place, I wish they could have a permanent shop! It was a brilliant outlet for creative people to share their work with the people and community of Southampton. They had a huge amount of space and filled it with tonnes of awesome creativity.
So, I signed up to teach a class on how to make wire Christmas star. My workshop went very well despite how scared I was before we started!
I had met all the students before, most of which were close friends, this meant I was more at ease and could relax into teaching once I started. Each student had their own unique style and flair for wire working and came out at the end with lots of different decorations, we even had a wire spider!
Some of the students enjoyed following the pattern I made and creating the wire stars, others were much more happy to experiment and play with the wire, coming up with their own unique designs. I think it's very important to give everyone this option as it adds the element of creativity and fun!
By letting people experiment you will also learn new things in teaching others, for instance one of the students came up with a brilliant way of twisting two wires together using a pencil. I love the technique and will certainly use it in my jewellery making.
I feel so much better now I have got over my first hurdle and taught a proper lesson. This has spurred me into making some jewellery 'how to' videos, I hope these will be useful to beginner jewellery makers and spread my love of metalworking :)

How To Polish Metal
To maintain a beautiful shine on all your metal jewellery, ornaments etc. you can regularly polish them.
Now this is a bit of a time consuming task, so in the 1950’s the British Museum invented a micro-crystalline wax which helps retain the finish on metal articles for use in restoration and galleries.
This wax is called ‘Micro-crystalline Renaissance Wax’ and greatly reduces the time spent polishing your collections.
  HOW TO APPLY RENAISSANCE WAX:
Purchase a pot of Renaissance wax (easily found on many websites online, I bought mine on eBay for about a fiver) and a lint free cloth (also bought on eBay)
Make sure your chosen metal article(s) are clean and free from dust and have the desired patina effect (ie, treated with liver of sulphur for a dark patina or put in the tumbler for a bright shiny finish).
First you pick up the lint free cloth and dip it into the renaissance wax so that a space about as big as a fingertip is coated in the wax, and apply to one side of the metal loosely. The wax will look gooey and be quite thick at this stage, leave the piece to dry for a couple of minutes.
Pick up a dry corner of your lint free cloth and buff the metal gently until the wax has disappeared.
Now repeat all the steps on the other side of the metal, and depending on the size of the article you may need to add a second coating to both sides.
And voila!
You have a beautiful finish to your metal that will last for much longer than if you left the pieces to oxidize in the air. The wax has applied a very thin layer of protection and has been used by professionals and hobbyists since its invention.
It is by far the best wax out there so don’t settle for anything less than Micro-crystalline Renaissance Wax!
Of course there will eventually come a time when you need to polish your jewellery using a specialist silver cloth, these cloths can be used for silver, brass and copper jewellery and ornaments.
I find polishing jewellery very relaxing and therapeutic, I hope you do too :)

Thrifty!
There's something special about when you step into a second hand, vintage shop.... there is that musky smell and an air of mystery. I think to myself 'What on earth will I find today?' Every time you visit one of these quirky shops you find something different, I love finding unexpected treasures, like a beautiful old typewriter or a vintage camera or a dress that went out of fashion 40 years ago and has somehow made it back in....The beauty of the humble charity shop is you never know what you're going to find!
On Sunday I went upstairs in the Marlands (Southampton) to see Hannah at the RE:SO (a student run shop which sells handmade items from students and local crafts people as well as some gorgeous hand picked vintage attire) I left my collection of Tribal Turtle wire jewellery to be put on display and went for a stroll around the shops...
I didn't realise how much the Marlands has woken up since the last time I've been up there! (I hardly ever go shopping in town unless I specifically need something) The Bert's and Gert's vintage and craft fair was in full swing with people bustling around looking merry!
Just near the market  (upstairs) was a new shop called THE LOFT LADDER which was selling gorgeous sparkly Indian saris. When I got closer I noticed it was actually 3 shops in one! At the front they were selling Sari's / candles and further in was a section where a friendly man was selling second hand furniture and electronic gadgets. And at the back was gifts and jewellery.
Within a minute of stepping through the doors my eyes fell on this AWESOME dark wooden cabinet in the second hand section.... It was love at first sight! I just had to have this quirky unusual cabinet in which to display my jewellery. I didn’t have enough change for the £8 it cost so the kind man let me have it for £6.50! What a bargain. I love buying pre-loved as I feel certain it had a history, I like to imagine who might have owned it and what they put inside...
I can't wait till my next craft fair so I can show it off!
Let just hope it doesn’t out shine my jewellery! ;)
