NEVER DELETE THIS I LOVE THIS SM
𝐦𝐚𝐦𝐚 ‧₊˚ ✧
Summary: you've loved Daryl's daughter since you met her, but becoming her mama is only recent. Warnings: TWD violence, blood & gore, character deaths, mildly explicit language, implications of sex (kinda), not really proof-read. Pairing: Daryl Dixon x Greene! reader (fluff, angst if you squint, kinda). Setting: Terminus. Credits to: @louifaith for the amazing plot idea, hope you like this! A/N: My first post so please be kind. I tried to keep Daryl's character but it was hard. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed writing it, and I appreciate constructive criticism. ♡
It started on your dad's farm when Daryl got shot by Andrea. Heather, his daughter, was younger then, almost two years old, and to keep her from seeing her daddy in the state he arrived that day, you showed her your childhood dollhouse, playing with her until your dad let you know Daryl was better and resting in the guest room.
You went to visit him, baby in arms, and she immediately jumped into her daddy's arms when she saw him. He invited you to stay a little that night, not even knowing why he did that. You became Heather's (and Daryl's) favorite person since then, and when her daddy was gone she pretty much demanded to be babysat by you and only you.
Then you lost the farm and spent months on the road. Heather became more and more attached to you during this time, who would try to keep her positive and happy by telling her you were all looking for a treasure together. She believed you when you found the prison, where you helped her decorate her and Carl's cell with colored chalks you found.
One day you came back from a run with Glenn and Rick, happy and smiley as you handed Heather the coloring book and crayons you found for her. Glenn told Daryl that the gift almost cost you your life that day.
Too focused on the girl, you missed Daryl's adoring eyes when he looked at you or how he was so protective of you. How he always made sure you and Heather were fed and safe, the subtle blush on his cheeks when you complimented him, or how his eyes never left you if you weren't next to each other.
"I didn't even know 'er," Daryl started. You were sitting next to him on a bench outside the prison watching the sunset as Heather sat on your lap, fighting a nap as she played with the buttons of your shirt. "Her mom," he added, stroking his daughter's downy cheek softly.
Your eyes met his stormy ones, and after staring at each other shortly, he looked away, suddenly interested in the fences.
"Me and Merle had been holed up in our trailer as usual, him bitchin' about how I never wanted to go out no more. Jus' to shut him up, I agreed to hit the bar with him one night," he explained, nervously chewing on his bottom lip.
He didn't even know why he was opening up to you. But there was something about you—something beautiful. His daughter was a shy little girl with most, but she seemed right at home with you, bubbly and happy in your arms.
And his father was no different. His walls came down in your presence, even if he tried to avoid or deny it. And there was something between you and the hunter, everybody knew. Everybody saw it but you two. Idiots.
He believed you only liked him because he was Heather's dad, and because he provided for the group. There could be no other reason. And you believed firmly he was only grateful that you took care of Heather, so he was your friend in return.
"I knew it was a mistake as soon as we walked in. Place was too damn loud, too many people. But Merle shoved a beer in my hand, said I needed to "loosen up." So I started drinkin'," now the nap had won over Heather and she was peacefully resting on your chest. "Merle kept passing me drinks, an' I got real drunk."
"Next thing I know, Merle's leadin' me outside, sayin' he's got a 'surprise.' Turns out the damn fool hired some lady, had her waitin' round back. I told him no way but he kept calling names, tellin' me I wasn't a man…" Daryl talked and lowered his volume as he stared at the girl in your arms, eyes always softer when he looked at her. "Woke up in the mornin' feelin' lower than shit."
"'Bout nine months later there's a knock at the door. This girl's standin' there with a pink blanket inside was the tiniest baby I ever saw. Pink lil' face scrunched up, fists balled at her sides. Couldn't believe somethin' so fragile was spawned from my sorry ass," he chuckled, but it was almost pained.
You wanted to speak, to tell him he was an amazing man, but you knew that right now he needed just you to listen.
"The woman told me if I didn't keep her she was gon' throw her in sum dumpster. I wasn't sure she was mine but I didn't care then," he added, eyes finally making contact with yours again, slightly squinted but as if he was about to tell a joke. "Then she grew into her face and…"
"She's your twin," you giggled and he nodded, his gaze finding his shoes. If only you knew what the sound of your laugh did to him. "How did you choose her name?"
He chuckled again, meeting your gaze again, "she didn' have a name for a month," he explained with a smile. "Then ma uncle said she needed one, and I called her all the girl names I could think of until she smiled at one."
"She named herself," you said with a breathy laugh, placing a kiss on the head of the adorable girl holding you while she slept and his eyes while looking at you were this close to turning into hearts.
The memories seemed too distant now.
The second prison attack seemed like a blur. One moment Hershel was dead, and then Daryl was ordering you to get Heather and leave. Now you both were camping in a makeshift tent five days later, the almost-three-year-old blissfully unaware of the stressful situation, for all she knew, you two were on a little vacation. A girls' trip.
Maybe keeping the girl in such a state of ignorance was foolish, knowing the chances of never seeing her dad again were high, but she was a toddler, a baby, and you'd keep her unaware and happy as long as you possibly could.
Sleep claimed you at some moment of the late night, much to your dismay, since you had been trying to keep watch every night.
"Mama, mama, maaaama," Heather called you in a sweet, sing-songy voice as she cradled your face with her tiny hands, shaking your face gently. You opened your eyes quickly, instantly searching for dangers, but there was none nearby. It was now morning, though.
Then you realized what she called you, and your heart skipped a bit. She considered you her mom.
"Hey baby," you softly cooed.
"When we gonna eat?" Heather spoke letting go of your face to play with the her bunny plushie. A gift by Daryl last winter.
"Oh, you're hungry? We still got an apple left, let me slice it for you," you said, moving her off you to go get the apple and knife from your bag, and beginning to slice it. A grumble was heard from your stomach, reminding you that you hadn't eaten in 3 days. All the food was for Heather now since it was getting harder to find it.
"Mama hungry," Heather giggled as she took the napkin with the apple slices and started munching on it. You hummed, not wanting to deny or confirm it as you sat next to her. Heather handed you a slice, and even though you wanted her to remain fed, you figured you'd find more food today and took the slice from her hand, eating it slowly to make it last.
Yes, you knew it didn't work like that.
"You know what we're doing today?" You started as you got the baby wipes you found in the last drugstore you came by, cleaning her face and hands. Oh, how you missed showers.
Her cute face lit up with excitement, she had already complained of being bored in the trailer. "We're going on an expedition today!" you explained, eyeing the stain on Heather's shirt she had been wearing for the past couple of days. "We're gonna find food, and maybe new clothes, perhaps a toy, how does that sound?"
"I'm not busy," Heather replied casually, making you laugh, "and we gonna find daddy!" she added with a gasp, beaming excitedly. Your heart dropped, but you didn't let it show, simply faking your best smile.
"Oh, but we're on a girls' trip, honey, daddy will have to wait a little longer."
Heather nodded and you got your bag ready, although it was almost empty. You got your quiver on and held your bow with your right hand, Heather holding the other hand. "Now, remember the rules? If I say yellow…"
"I hide, close my eyes, and be quiet," Heather said, skipping as she walked next to you, "and if you say red we run," she added, looking all adorably serious.
"Perfect," you praised her. "We're also looking for a new place to sleep, would you like that?" She nodded, crouching down to pick up a rock she found pretty.
In the trunk of a car of a man who opted out with a headshot, which Heather was thankfully too short to notice, you were lucky enough to find two bags of chips on the verge of expiring, but still good, along with a bottle of water—it was hot but it was good too. The girl happily helped you put the stuff in your bag before you both, quietly continued your journey in search of somewhere to camp.
On your way, you found a sign with a map. Some place called Terminus seemed to offer shelter for anyone, it claimed to be a sanctuary.
It seemed too good to be true, but it was also too dangerous to stay out here with Heather another night, so you decided to give it a shot.
You walked almost all day, holding Heather when she was too tired, and boy, was she getting heavier, but at last, you found Terminus that night. There, the people seemed kind and attentive, perhaps too much so. Obsessed, almost. Mentioning how rare it was to see a little kid lately, and going on and on about how sweet kids are.
Your gut was telling you to run, to take Heather far from this place, so kindly declining the food they were offering, you took your girl in your arms and told them you still had to find her father, as an excuse.
This infuriated these weird people, making them point their guns at you and the sleeping child in your arms as they threatened you to try and move. Your heart was beating fast you thought Heather would be able to feel it. You begged them to let you go, holding your kid as tight as you could as she stirred away so she wouldn't see what was happening.
"Oh, don't worry, we'll keep you together. Kids and women taste good together," she whispered in your ear as she dragged you to a sort of shipping container, locking you and Heather in there, taking your weapons and bags away.
Silently allowing yourself to cry, you told Heather you were in a cave and you'd be safe here until tomorrow. Rocking her back to sleep.
You got no sleep at night, expecting these cannibals to show up, ready to put up a fight. The kid woke up when you assumed morning came since it was dark inside this place.
To keep Heather from being afraid, you played with her to guess the number, letter, or word you spelled on her back with your fingers, thankfully earning a bunch of laughs from her. But all too soon, one of the men who welcomed you suddenly opened the door ordering both to come with him, dragging you when you begged him to let you go.
He took you to a room with tables that had all kinds of stuff, from toys to jewelry, to clothes and shoes. They were belongings of other people.
The man's voice interrupted your thoughts. "First, take your earrings, necklace, and shoes off, and put them where they belong," he instructed. "The kid can put the toy over there," he pointed at the pile of plushies and toys. Your heart ached for the kids that you assumed died here.
"Mama?" Heather spoke to you, hugging your leg. "Why mama?" You could tell she was getting scared, and you didn't know how to turn this into a game or a story, and only a nervous stammer left your lips.
"I'll come back to let you know when you can take your clothes off," the man said, eyeing you in a way that made you want to poke his eyes out. "Try anything funny and I'll make you watch as we eat her," he whispered in your ear, almost making you gag from the way his hot, stinky breath hit your neck. You gulped, staring dagger at him as he laughed and left through the back door. "I'll be right outside," he said all too cheery.
You felt grossed out. The only difference between these people and walkers was that they were alive and aware, and that thought alone made you feel more uneasy.
"Daddy!" Heather squealed happily, making you turn your head so fast, but you only found her reaching for the crossbow on the table that had weapons. How did you miss it? It was Daryl's crossbow, no doubt. With the little stick figures that Heather drew on one side. "Mama, Daddy's here!"
"Yeah," you said almost breathlessly as you grabbed the weapon. "He is," you said, still processing the new information.
"Let's go get him!" Heather declared, but a loud explosion made both of you jump, Heather let out a little scream, hugging you again before she started crying. You held her as you slowly approached the door to hear the commotion outside, hearing the guys that were outside the door rush away.
You opened the door, seeing nothing but chaos outside.
You closed it again, setting Heather down and kneeling to talk to her. "Okay, baby, right now we're going to get away, okay? We're going to run. It's red, got it, honey?" you tried to say as calmly as you could. Between subsiding tears, she nodded, saying okay in a whisper.
"I trust you, mama," she said holding you tightly.
After a few seconds, you rushed to grab your bow and arrows, as well as Daryl's crossbow, slinging both on your shoulder before grabbing a machete there was on the table. You held Heather and told her to hold onto you no matter what, hiding her face on your neck so she wouldn't have to see anything.
Everything felt in slow motion when you stepped outside, stabbing in the head the walkers you came across, and trying to find a way out without being bitten. Though a gap in the fence you managed to get Heather through, and you carefully climbed over it.
You walked for about ten minutes until you heard voices. Daryl's voice among them. "Heather and (Y/N)?" he asked. You set Heather down as the two of you approached them, her tiny hand in yours.
"Yeah! I saw them, I thought they were behind us. I called them. They probably didn't hear me!" Carl explained, a hint of stress and sadness in his voice.
"They gotta be still there, I'm goin' back for 'em," Daryl announced.
"You're probably gonna need this!" Heather repeated what you told her to say, as you held the crossbow in your hand. All eyes turned to look at you immediately. There were some new faces, but you were focused on Daryl.
His teary eyes made contact with yours, his breathing was heavy, and his lip trembled. You stared at each other for a minute until his gaze dropped to Heather and he finally broke down. Heather and you ran to him, he and you kneeling for a family hug. "Daddy!" Heather called happily, eyes closed from the big smile she wore.
You were finally home—the three of you were. His arms protectively around his two girls as Heather beamed peppering his father's and mother's face with sweet kisses, drying your tears too. She didn't understand why you cried when she was so happy, but she didn't question it.
Impulsively, he held your face softly with his free hand and his lips met yours. It was a peck, quick so he could pull away before you reacted in case it wasn't a welcomed action. But you grabbed the back of his neck and pulled him in again, pouring all the emotion both had been too blind to notice before into the kiss. You only pulled away when you heard Heather giggle next to you.
Taking a proper look at her daddy now up close, she gasped, looking at his blackeye. "Mama, Daddy got a owie," she pouted, "mama gonna make it better," she told her father, placing a hand on his shoulder in utter seriousness.
"I'm sure mama will," Daryl hugged his daughter, meeting your gaze again, but this time his eyes were softer, adoring, and loving, and yours were just the same. Heather nodded before his dad tickled her with his beard, making her laugh loudly, which made the rest of the group smile as well.
Maybe things weren't perfect yet. Life was not perfect. But this moment absolutely was.

UM? ACTING LIKE THIS ISNT THE BEST DARYL FIC I HAVE EVER READ???
Girlfriend
Daryl Dixon x Reader | Some smut at the end
Daryl is in a sucky relationship but doesn't see it at first. Reader helps him see and later shows him how a good partnership works.
💘 💘 💘
With another invite turned down, you had set out on your own. Not that you enjoyed hunting without Daryl, but he seemed to be preoccupied with his girlfriend.
Again.
It was annoyingly quiet out there, nothing that indicated any animal being near..
Only ..rustling plants. Low, no wind in the trees. You followed the sound, staying low and undetected like Daryl taught you until-
Plap. Plap. Plap. "Hahh please~" Plap. Plap. "Quiet." Followed by a grunt and more skin on skin noise.
You recognized that barked command, having heard it a million times before during Daryl's hunting lessons. Was he really out here fucking his gross girlfriend? That preppy lady wouldn't even know how to function out here let alone be comfortable on the forest floor. Why the hell would he fuck that annoying bitch out here but not you during all those times spent together on your own?
But that's how it was these days. Your dear friend always being followed by that hag of a woman and you being sidelined.
On days it could get so bad you ended up in tears, begging Carol to explain why he was being so weird all of a sudden. She knew you cared deeply for him and didn't like Daryl's lady either and when you returned from your cut short hunting trip you told her about your findings. And of course about Daryl's clearly visible annoyance surrounding the act. You ended up being able to laugh about it all, laying back in a fit of giggles just as Daryl came back home and upon seeing him crying out laughter even harder.
"Ahw pookie, did a walker snag you?" She spoke through the snickering, pointing at her neck and back at him which had him look in the mirror and spot a dark red spot on his neck, immediately turning a deep shade of red in the face as he mumbled a response you couldn't make out.
As he stomped up the stairs, grumbling about a shower you gave each other a look and went back to laughing.
"Man, it's sad. Really." Your words brought some seriousness back into the conversation, seeing your friend was still being tortured on a daily basis but never seeming to be doing anything about it.
You all saw it. He was unhappy. But the majority of the community didn't see that. They didn't know him and only saw their happy friend with her quiet, grumbly boyfriend. The man you wanted to be your quiet, grumbly boyfriend.
Even Rick had tried to get his brother alone for even a short moment to make it clear she was bad for him but no matter where he found the archer, the woman was there too.
Everybody knew when Daryl was working in the garage you left him be, emergencies were fine, and leaving him some lunch with minimal interaction was appreciated but those were his moments to unwind. He needed those and you respected it. He'd make sure to let at least someone know so the word spread amongst his friends who all knew he'd come say hi when he was good to socialize again.
But these last weeks someone apparently didn't feel like those rules applied to her. The garage door was opened, allowing a view of Daryl sitting cross-legged on an old blanket and tinkering on his bike. And then behind him on the toolbox, the top cleared off for her to sit on and her legs resting on the bike's front wheel was the missus. You ever so slowly walked past, having Dog spot you and come up for some attention that he never got from the other one which you found more than sad.
You crouched down and lovingly cuddled up with the canine and ruffled his fur, smiling into his neck and listening in on the endless chattering that came from the woman currently disturbing Daryl's much needed alone time.
'Alright fuck this' you thought to yourself before standing up straight and calling out to her. "I heard you bake some amazing apple treats. Wanna show me how to make them?" Daryl gave you the most shocked look ever, but the feet touching the ground behind him made him smile ever so slightly. The one thing she was almost more fond of than Daryl was her baking. Clearly Carol must have told her.
But nothing beat the relief he felt when the two women walked off and Dog came to rest at his side again. He was gonna have to thank you for that later.
Back in the kitchen you suffered through the endless yapping beside you, barely telling you steps for baking and more bragging about her adventurous time in the woods. As you tried to follow her progress you tried your best to twist her words into your favor, and send away any snarky remarks on what you saw in reality.
All you had to do was survive this ordeal and think about Daryl having some time to clear his head.
And clearing his head he did. He felt refreshed after being left alone with his dog and bike for so long. He missed the quiet, started to hate the sound of his lady's voice almost.
But he couldn't tell her that. It was something he'd have to live with, something to get used to about relationships. Just like she had to live with him having Dog and dragging mud into the house.
That was all normal stuff, right? He had no clue so rolling with it until that warm, happy feeling Glenn and Maggie shared showed up. It was only a matter of time, it was gonna happen soon.
Except it didn't, and Daryl got worse so now it was Rick's turn.
He ran out to where Daryl was following around his woman like a lost puppy through the pantry, grabbing him by the shoulders in fake panic and dragging him along, something with trouble, and Carol, and hurry.
So he followed him into his house, where he stopped in the middle of the room and stared at you and Carol on the couch, and Rick behind him.
"Feeling those butterflies yet?" There was clear mockery in her tone, referring to their argument from a while ago about his lady. About how Carol felt he wasn't happy, and he called it none of her business and going on about how everyone had annoyances from time to time and they'd be fine soon. "Ya can't tell me ev'ryones got them butterflies all'a the time."
"Daryl, she doesn't even look at you." Well, she looked, but not in the way it mattered. Stared, gawked and drooled. He was nothing but a piece in her picture of a fake perfect life. And now was the time for truth. "I saw you with her in the woods." Eyes wide he stared at you, discomfort clear on his face. "You hated it, it was clear on your face, you barely even finished before you were up and away from her."
"Whuh-- why'd ya stay?" He stumbled over every word, his mind blank as he heard your reply. "Needed to know if you loved her for real. To move on, get you out of my mind."
He tried to place your words somewhere they made sense, but he got stuck again like he always did.
"Sideline that for a moment. We're talking about the other issue right now." Rick's order helped to get the conversation back on track, looking his dearest friend in the eyes before he spoke the harsh truth.
"Daryl, I know you don't want to hear this from us, but we're worried and you have to understand.." He needed a breath in preparation. "You're never going to be happy with her."
The front door had opened and closed during his sentence, a clearly angry girlfriend rounding the corner. One who had heard his words.
"What the hell are you saying? That's a lie and you know it!" She was face to face with Rick now, giving Daryl a stern look to help defend her. "Who do you think you are to make that assumption! Of course he's happy, he'd tell me if he wasn't!" She went from screaming to pointing aggressively as well. First at Carol. "She's probably just jealous that he likes my baked goods more!"
And then you. "And she.. She's just jealous of what me and Daryl have! You need to mind your own business, all of you!!" She huffed in annoyance.
"Wow." You spoke in the short moment of silence. "Can't believe you can fuck someone with a voice like that. Instant turn off for me."
Now there were four pairs of wide eyes staring at you. Two trying their hardest not to laugh, one in utter shock and one red-faced and ready to throw hands. Not that she'd win against someone who had trained to fight with a cop and a hunter.
She took one step towards you, hands balled into tight fists and brows furrowed in anger when a hand stopped her. "Touch 'er and yer walker bait."
Daryl had stopped her from approaching you. She'd ways obey her loving boyfriend, he loved her for that. "Daryl, honey she-" "Quiet!" He barked the order loud enough to startle everyone in the room, tears slowly forming in the offended woman's eyes. "Why would you let her say that?" She still continued. "You love my voice, my stories when we cuddle.." God, imagine loving your voice that goddamn much. "You said so when we visite--" "I said QUIET. Ya never fuckin' listen do ya?" The initial shock brought the tears to spill. Pressing her lips in a thin line as she sniffled.
You took the opportunity to speak up. "The only reason I asked you about those bland, boring pastries of yours was to give him-" You pointed at Daryl who kept his position in the middle of the group." "-some goddamn peace and quiet. You know, the only thing he actually wants when he's working in the garage." You scoffed at her ignorance. "Funny how everyone here knows, except for his Girlfriend. who loves him 'so, so much'." She went from angry glaring at you to staring at her boyfriend with her best sad eyes. "D.. Daryl? She's lying.. right? Y.. You love me."
No. No he didn't. He realized that now, he only thought he did when she showed him kindness and interest.
He opened his mouth to respond but no word came out. None that went through his head would end this conversation without conflict.
"She's.. I uh." He looked around as if words would appear is he searched hard enough but he quickly realized there was only one clear answer to be given.
The truth.
"Nah, I don'. M'sorry." He had turned back to face her but still hadn't found the courage to look her in the eye, the guilt eating him alive. He didn't want to hurt her. Hurt anyone, but in the process he was hurting himself.
"Liar." Her voice cracked, spirit broken and defeated. "Don't lie to me you love me!"
In her yelling she took a step forward, face now inches away from Daryl's.
"Nah." He repeated again. It stung but she needed to hear him and there it was again, right in front of him but not registering his words. She never truly saw him, heard him, loved him like his found family loved him.
"I don' love ya." Only now did he lift his gaze to meet hers, seeing the tears, the sadness and the anger.
"M'sorry."
She just stared, shaking her head, words lost for once as she cried.
The whole room felt heavy with emotion. It was never the plan to have this talk turn into what it was quickly becoming.
"A- are you.." her words barely came out between sniffs and hiccups. "Leaving me..? Y- you can't.."
"Look," Daryl had to dig deep for the right words, and begged they would work. "I never wanted ta hurtya, s'just.. We jus' ain't a match." He had kept his gaze on her, hoping his eyes would speak what his mouth couldn't. "This.. Us. It ain't workin' fer me." A sigh left him at her silence. He stepped past her, finding the large chair in the corner of the room and sitting down, needing a serious break with how his head was close to overflowing.
A loud sniff left her as she mumbled an okay and left. No further words, just an okay and out she went. Rick made a mental note then to send someone to check on her later. He suggested Daryl to go rest downstairs and take some time off jobs to clear his mind before wishing you and Carol a good day and heading off as well.
"Well, come on." You got a pat on the shoulder from Carol, who lead you off the couch. "You go take Dog for a nice long walk around the community while I go make some comfort food, alright?"
With a nod you retreated downstairs to find Dog napping on Daryl's bed, having to wake him to come with you to get some much needed fresh air for you, and some exercise for Dog.
The community was quiet around dinnertime, having everyone inside with their family, friends and housemates. It was perfect for thinking, commenting on stuff to Dog who padded alongside of you. You should have brought a ball to play with.
Back home Carol was busying herself in the kitchen, all her focus on cooking this meal to keep her from talking to Daryl. He needed the quiet so his head could do some serious sorting out.
You returned to Carol finishing up dinner and watched as Dog quickly made his way over to Daryl and rest his head in his lap.
You joined Carol in the kitchen and helped with plating the food and rinsing pans before leaving for the living room, handing Daryl a plate and eating in silence.
It was clear you weren't talking today and each went on with their lives.
It took a week for Daryl to be back in his usual routine, not avoiding people who could ask questions but just doing his jobs and runs like he normally would.
So now it was time for that talk.
Surprisingly he was the one that came yo you over dinner, having Carol as a buffer to fill in when he'd fall silent made it a bit easier to initiate the conversation.
Of course he had talked to Carol before alone, not knowing how to respond to your words in the first place he wanted some knowledge up front.
"Ya like me, in a boyfriend-girlfriend way?" Daryl's sudden words had you almost choke on your food, giving yourself a moment to breathe before nodding. "Yeah I do." It was no use denying it after what you said last time. And it probably took.him a lot to even start this conversation.
"Can ya tell me how tha' would work." He played around with the food on his plate, needing to keep his hands somehow busy. "If I said yes to it, I mean."
Now you gave him a sweet smile and happily told him. "I guess we'd share a bedroom, whenever you'd be ready for that. And I'd make sure to ask before I kiss you and all that."
"She'd also not kick Dog out and respect your alone time." Carol added with a fork pointed at you both, to which you agreed.
"I jus' ain't sure this is fer me, ya know. I'on wan' things ta get weird." Him admitting his fear was already an important part of any relationship, which you explained to him before adding, "we can give it a trial run, yeah? You can tap out whenever you feel like it's too much, yeah? We'll go at your pace." holding your hand out for him to take it.
Carol had snuck out while you talked and now busied herself in the kitchen to still listen and hop in when needed. She stared at your waiting hand, and Daryl's as he moved it ever so slow to rest it on top of yours. "I like ya too. Should've seen tha' earlier. An' m'sorry fer not seein' yer interest in me."
You gave his hand a little squeeze and so a relationship was started.
Very, very slowly.
Daryl now hovered around when you busied yourself in the kitchen, offered to help more just for the sake of being near you. He slowly worked up the courage to rest his hands on you as he stood around and realized quickly he loved to have his arms around you while you cooked, moving along with you across the counter.
"Daryl," His hands left you immediately, feeling like he overstepped. "Oh, no please, keep your hands on me I don't mind." You let out a laugh as you took his hands and placed them on the side of your ribs. "I just wanted to know if you enjoyed me returning the favor." You gave him a look over your shoulder and watched him as he faked deep thoughts. "I think I'd like yer hands on me, yeah."
You brought over some lunch in a basket. At Daryl's garage you whistled for Dog and gave the basket to him. He happily carried it over to Daryl, handle in his mouth and tail wagging.
Just as you wanted to walk off you were called back over. "Wanna share lunch?" His question shocked you, knowing he never liked people bothering him in the garage so being asked to stay was ..weird. But you stayed anyways and shared a peaceful lunch with Daryl.
You weren't sharing a bed yet. Taking things slow was your tactic, so you'd wait for Daryl to ask, or for him to mention it in conversation when the topic allowed it to be slipped in.
He hadn't yet so you were in bed alone, almost asleep when a knock woke you up. "Yeah?" You called out to whoever it was. The door opened to reveal Daryl in a pair of sweats and an old tee. "M'sorry fer wakin' ya. I wanna try'n sleep 'ere tonight."
His words were like a dream come true, almost literally with you so close to dozing off and scooted over to let him into the bed. The warmth that surrounded him felt good, and hearing your voice whisper a soft good night to him felt right. He returned the words and carefully took a hand to rest it on your side.
He slept through the entire night after years of waking at every creak or caw. When he woke up the first thing he saw was your sleeping form and he knew he wanted that every day. "G'morning, Dee." Your voice sounded like heaven, even in its groggy morning state. "Hmm mornin'." Hw grumbled with a smile. You loved that smile. You wanted to kiss that smile over and over again, but before you got the chance to finish that thought he had made the first move. He moved closer to you, face an inch away as he took a second to steady himself and ever so softly press his lips against yours.
The next night he only went downstairs to bring his pillow with him and moved to your room again, this time letting you settle against him as you got comfortable and again slept through the whole night.
Slowly your cabinet got rearranged to hold Daryl's clothes as well, he'd pull you against him as you both slept.
But maybe tonight he'd try something more than sleeping.
Daryl wasn't a stranger to sex these days, he just wasn't a big fan of it. Sure, it felt nice and he'd get the job done but it never felt like he thought it'd feel.
He hoped it would feel different with you.
You were already in bed when he came out of the shower, wanting to be clean if you were going to be intimate tonight. His arms snaked around yours and pulled your body against his under the covers, pressing the effects of his shower thoughts against your backside as he softly kissed the back of your neck.
"Dee?" You let out a content sigh at his eagerness all of a sudden. "Hmhm. Wanna touch ya." You responded by pressing your ass harder against his cock, grinding against him in slow but steady motions. "I'd love that, please." Words were important to Daryl, he needed his yes's and no's to make sense of these type of situations. Now that he had his yes he slowly made progress by slipping one leg out of his boxers and pulling down your underwear as well.
His cock was back against your ass as his hand snuck down your front and found his way between your folds. His rough fingers felt so good, having you let out a soft gasp as he slipped two fingers into you. You moaned along with his movements, loving the feeling of his thick digits pumping in and out of you. Your hand made its way between the two of you to touch him, moving the hem of his shirt out of the way to take him into your hand properly. Your fingers curled around his cock and pump slowly, soft rhythmic squeezes and pumps had his breathing pick up, almost whining at the touch. After a bit of more lazy touches you started to want more, positioning his length between your legs. He removed his fingers to assist positioning himself at your entrance and carefully moving his his to push into you.
You moaned at the initial stretch, having missed the feeling of being with someone so long. Your hips moved back to meet his on their own and Daryl noticed, enjoying the welcome feeling of his partner joining in the movements. His hand slid underneath your hip as the other trailed up to your chest, lingering just off your breast. With a soft giggle you took his hand and moved it to where he wanted it to be and squeezed softly. Behind you Daryl let out a delicious sound, making you turn just enough so you could watch him. One of your hands reached to scratch at his chin fluff as the other went to cup his balls between your legs, softly kneading them with every thrust of his hips.
His pace picked up and his groans deepened. "This okay for you?" Your voice came out in huffs, watching his face contort in pleasure. "Yeah. Keep touchin', s'good."
You were more than happy to oblige and keep up your gently pawing at his balls and moved your other hand to tangle in his hair, softly scratching his scalp and moving in closer for a kiss. His lips slotted perfectly against yours now after nights of figuring each other out before sleep.
Daryl was enjoying himself. And if your sounds were anything to go by, you were too. Your moans were slowly turning into whines of 'more' and 'please'. The hand that held your breast before now slid further up to your throat as he angled your head by the jaw to deepen the kiss as the hand on your hips helped to roughen his pace. Your sounds, now muffled by his lips were music to his ears and the squeeze of your walls spurred him on more than anything.
"M'close.." You almost whined against his lips, having him double his efforts to make you finish. His hand moved away from your hip in search for your clit, not daring to admit he needed guidance. Your hand moved from between his legs atop of his for a short moment to press the pad of his fingers at the right spot before going back to squeezing at him. It took only a couple more thrusts, rubs and squeezes before you both finished, your walls tightening around his length as he spilled inside of you.
He slumped onto his back, pulling out and putting his underwear back on.
"You good?" You turned to fully face him, "hmhm, yeah tha' was way more fun than I thought." He gave you a soft smile as you wormed your underwear back on too. "S'nice when the lady touches me too." You took his words as an invite and rested your hand on his hip and squeezed. His body was just so perfect for squeezing in any and all places, you loved it. "I'll always happily touch you, just lemme know when you don't like something." He gave a grunt in agreement and suggested sleep for now, continuing the talk in the morning.
So sleep you did, even better now being all tired out.
Breakfast tasted better after that, the air was fresher and the residents were less annoying.
That was of course until the one they didn't want to run into saw them holding hands on the way to the pantry.
"I hope you like sloppy seconds." One voice commented from behind you. "Yeah, sloppy for sure. Horrible lay, that guy." The women giggled among themselves, staring you down. Where Daryl tried to ignore his ex's stupid remarks, you weren't going to leave without snapping back. "Sloppy? Maybe when the chick he fucks squeals like a dying hog! Fucked me so good I could barely walk last night." You sent them a smug look, the women in the background giggling softly as she colored beet red and crossed her arms with a huff, turning away from the two of you in shame. "Ya done makin' a scene now? We gotta grab food." You proudly nodded, a wide smile on your face on your way into the pantry to pick out dinner food.
Daryl might not have shown it on the outside, but he was damn proud of his lady. And hearing you defend him like that made him live you even more.

THIS IS TOO CUTE
Midnight Refreshments
A Daryl Dixon Drabble
wordcount: 0.6k
no warnings, just fluffy sleepy daryl <3

To say you were restless was an understatement.
You had been tossing and turning for what felt like an eternity, flipping your pillow a million times over in search of a cold compress against your flushed cheeks. It was the dead of summer in butt-fuck Nowheresville, Georgia, and even in the middle of the night, the heat was enough to have you sweating bullets and extremely claustrophobic.
Daryl however, seemed to be sleeping like a baby beside you, blissfully unaware of your insomnia. Not that you wanted to bother him. He deserved his rest with all he did for the community. You, on the other hand, had been bed-bound for the last week, having sprained your ankle on a run and unable to move around without sharp pains shooting up your calf. The lack of exercise only pushing sleep further and further from your grasp.
With a huff, you sit up in your shared bed, tossing your legs over the edge carefully to not disturb Daryl, and tip-hobble your way down the stairs, hoping a cold glass of water would help cool your system. The luxury of running taps in Alexandria was still so foreign to you, having grown accustomed to muddy streams and rain as your sources of hydration. You grab a clean glass from the cupboard above you and fill it up as quietly as you can, leaning over the counter as you guzzle the liquid to take some weight off your swollen foot.
"What'ya doin' outta bed, hun?"
Startled, you nearly drop your glass as you whip around to find a shirtless, and very sleepy Daryl, leaning up against the doorframe. His eyes are hardly open, scratching at them with the palms of his hands. "Ya heard the Doc, ain't s'pose to be movin' around."
You can't help but smile, he was so cute without even trying. It wasn't a surprise he followed you out here. He had been doing it since you met him; would somehow notice as soon as your warmth was missing, and come searching, just to pick you up and bring you back where you belonged. With him, in his arms.
"Just couldn't sleep," you mumble, suppressing a giggle at how adorable he looked when he was tired. "I thought maybe some cold water would help."
He doesn't respond. Just lazily pads forward, wrapping his arms around your waist, watching over your shoulder as you refill your glass to bring back to bed. When you finish, he leans down picking you up bridal style, and this time you can't contain the soft laughter that falls past your lips. "D, I'm perfectly capable of hobbling myself back to bed," You chuckle, only receiving a disapproving grunt in return.
He makes his way up the stairs with you in his strong arms and plops you back onto the bed, climbing in right beside you. He pulls you to his chest, nuzzling his head against yours softly, searching for a comfortable spot to rest it. "I love you," you whisper, snuggling into him and closing your eyes, with hopes sleep will find you soon. Daryl's eyes though, blink open, taking a long moment to simply gaze at you. Scanning over each feature on your soft, beautiful face.
You're finally about to doze off when you hear him speak quietly, almost unintelligible, "You too sunshine... always."

I LOVE THIS.
Daryl x reader - out my sight
A/N: this is my first time writing for TWD and for Daryl so have fun ahah
You were looking for food, and you found a bit, so you made your way back to the highway you were walking along.
Maybe it wasn’t the best idea, but it was the safest one, rather than trees, you had open space you could see walkers for miles on, and it was safer, with more supplies available when you needed it, and you had your trusted pointy stick.
You did have a machete as well, but you preferred being able to keep those freaks at a distance, you didn’t want them to get too close.
You moved slowly and quietly, keeping an eye out for any hiding spaces or places that seemed a little too dangerous to for you to go too close to.
Every day, three times a day you would stop, climbing into the nearest available tree.
That’s what you did now, you found a good tree to climb and you climbed up it, resting your back on the bark, looking around.
Reaching into the jacket, you pulled out a photo, and unfolded it, smiling you folded it in half the other way, running your thumb along the forever memory of the man.
“You better be alive you dumb bastard…” you whispered.
You wondered if he had made it, if he was nearby or if he was safe, if he wasn’t even still in the state.
You didn’t know if he was looking for you, part of you hoped he was, but the other part hoped that he had just forgotten about you, and that he was focusing on his own safety.
The thought of your boyfriend from days gone by was the only thing that kept you going, the memories that you had of the pair of you before the world suddenly went to shit.
They kept you alive.
Kept you fighting.
Putting the photo away into the pocket of the jacket you were wearing, you sat there for a shot while, taking a break.
It was safe in the trees, away from the walkers and you had learnt that pretty quickly.
Clasping your hands together, you brought them to to your mouth and blew air into your hallowed palms, letting out a deep whistle, and you extended your fingers to make it higher pitched.
You stopped and listened.
At this point you weren’t expecting a reply, but three times a day you did this in the hopes that you would get one, but you never did.
You saw a few walkers perk up at the sound, but they carried on about their own business, the sound mimicking natural sounds in a way.
Taking a breath, you stayed there for maybe an hour before you carried on walking, checking car for anything that may be of use, but you didn’t want to stray too far from your camp.
You checked a few cars briefly, and made a mental note of what they had in them and if it was of use before trudging back towards your camp, and you sat between the circle of cars, cooking something to eat.
You had to eat during the day when it safer, and during the evenings you slept, in the night you stayed awake, keeping watch over the road, noting how many walkers there were if you saw any.
Early morning came, and you took a quick nap before making your way down to the cars from the day before.
Grabbing anything you could out of them, you jogged your way back towards your camp.
Climbing up your tree, you grabbed one of the bags you had in there and split the medicines and foods between them.
That’s when you heard it, the sound of vehicles moving and you climbed to a slightly lower branch, sitting down.
They came to a stop a little way up the road and began to search the cars you had already searched.
“Dumbasses… what the fuck are they doing…” you whispered.
You quietly jumped down, walking over to a car you hid behind it, gripping your machete this time.
You didn’t know who they were or what they wanted, so you had to be cautious.
You crept around them, weaving in and out of the cars, and you watched them, not wanting to get any closer.
They seemed like a large group, you couldn’t see them all, a couple of kids, some women, a man with them, but you still kept your distance, they could still be dangerous.
You backed away as they got closer, and ran back into the cover of the trees and up your tree to watch.
You could see more, and more people.
You wondered if he was there, and there was only one way for you to find out, at least up there through the branches and leaves they wouldn’t be able to find you.
You went to raised your hands, but stopped when you saw the horde, and you kept yourself hidden.
You watched as everybody scrambled to find a place to hide.
They weren’t going to last with the walkers and you knew that, and as much as you didn’t want to trust them, you couldn’t let anybody else die.
So you raised your hands and whistled again, leaving it as a long, deep whistle this time.
It drew the attention of the walkers and they kept moving.
Taking a deep breath, you whistled again, keeping them coming towards you, and when they were close enough you stopped.
They weren’t as stupid as they looked, but you knew they were going to keep going up the highway, so you waited.
Everything seemed so tense, so quiet.
“What the fuck was that?” Shane whispered.
Daryl stood up, helping get T-Dog to safety and he looked out on to the road.
“There ain’t no way…”
“What?” Rick asked.
Daryl let out a low and quiet whistle, pushing back Rick and Dale who tried to stop him.
“Just shut the fuck up and listen!” Daryl hissed.
You heard the low whistle, and you whistled again, seeing if it would happen once more.
If it was who you thought it was then he would know the pattern, but if it wasn’t then you knew to stay hiding.
A response came in a slightly shorter, lower whistle.
Climbing down from the tree you walked on to the road, standing on one of the cars to stare at the group.
They all saw you, and raised their guns but nobody moved.
Daryl raised his crossbow, and he whistled again, only a short one this time, maybe a second long.
You jumped down from the car, walking a little closer to get a better view, hand covering your eyes.
“Holy fuckin’ shit…”
Daryl set his crossbow aside and he raised his hands to the others.
“Don’t shoot, she’s human.”
“How the hell can you be so sure?!” Lori hissed.
“You ever heard one of them fuckers whistle? No, so she’s fucking human I swear to god you hurt her I’ll put an arrow straight through your fucking eyes bitch.”
He shoved past T-Dog and Rick, making his way carefully through the cars, just like you were doing.
You stopped, pointing the stick and he stopped as well.
“Are you bit?”
“No dumbass I ain’t bit, you think I’d still be here if I were?”
You shrugged a little.
“Maybe, you smell dead enough.”
“You asshole you can’t smell me from that far away, and you know they can’t talk neither, get over here.” He scoffed.
You lowered the stick and walked over a closer, getting a better look at him and you smiled softly, a few tears brimming your eyes.
“I can’t believe you’re still alive…” you whispered.
“Nah come on, seriously don’t start crying.”
He walked over, taking your weapon he set it aside and wrapped his arm around your shoulders, pulling you into him.
You balled your hands into the back of his shirt, closing your eyes as you tried to fight the tears.
“Come on darl… you know I don’t deal with the crying… I don’t like the crying…”
You sniffled a little, pulling away and draped his arms on your shoulders, clasping his hands together behind your head.
You sniffled a little, locking eyes with him.
“You smell like ass Daryl…”
“Well I’m sorry, I’ll just whip a shower out my ass and clean.”
You laughed a little and he smirked a little bit.
“You don’t smell all too good either you know, I’m pretty sure you could rival the dead with that damn smell.”
“Shut up.” You said.
You sighed, resting your head on his chest again and he placed his hand on the back of your head, kissing your head.
He rested his chin there, eyes scanning over the surrounding areas.
He pulled away and then smacked you upside the head and you smacked his arm.
“Ow! Daryl what the fuck?!”
“The fuck were you thinking running off huh? You fucking stupid or something?”
You rolled your eyes.
“Well I’m sorry, I didn’t exactly plan on a world ending apocalypse you dumbass, I just wanted some space.”
“You ran off you moron! Didn’t even leave a note!”
“I’m sorry! God! Don’t get so pissy about it, you told me to leave.”
“Jesus Christ (Y/N), we had an argument, course I told you to leave, I didn’t think you actually would.”
You shrugged a little, putting your hands in your pockets as you grinned sheepishly up at your boyfriend.
He rose a brow, crossing his arms as he looked down at you unamused.
“I love you?”
“Damn straight you better, now where’s your crap? You’re coming with me.”
He grabbed your weapon and you led him back towards your tree so you could grab everything you were stashing.
Daryl kept his eyes glued to you, making sure you didn’t vanish again, because he wasn’t all that sure you were actually there, and that it wasn’t his mind playing tricks on him.
While he was staring at you he clicked on to the familiar jacket you were wearing.
“Dammit (Y/N), you’re the reason my jacket went missin’? Seriously?”
“Oh pipe down.” You laughed.
Daryl shook his head, but he did smirk a little bit.
It was definitely you, because only you could piss him off that much and he still have a soft spot for you, just like he always had.
He was going to make sure you went everywhere with him this time, even if he had to handcuff you both together he wasn’t about to let you out of his sight again

I LOVE THIS💋
Hello my sweet lovelies. I’ve been trying to write some more Daryl X Y/N and thought what better way to get started than doing the Fluffy and Naughty Alphabet HCs! 😊 so please enjoy the start to my little 52 HC journey!
Daryl Dixon’s Fluffy Hc Alphabet:
A - Attractive (what about their partner do they like most?)
Daryl loves a partner that cares a lot about other people. Those who put themselves before the betterment of the group are not people who Daryl can ever get along with. He finds kindness, compassion, honesty, and openness attractive in particular.
B - Banter (How do they tease each other? Is it always friendly/ flirtatious or does it turn nasty?)
Daryl doesn’t conventionally tease his partner. But in an unconventional world he thinks their version of teasing fits right in. Instead of the jovial picking other couples do, Daryl will often come over and say nothing but simply take a bite out of his partner’s food, smiling devilishly as he continues on his duties. While walking on patrol together, Daryl and his partner will go from walking hand in hand to playfully bumping each other to shoving each other off the path and into the plant life that lives along the side of the road. Neither partner can always read the other’s emotions so if Daryl is in a dark head space he will lash out if his partner tries to tease him. The same however can be said too for his partner.
C - Cute (Cuddles, Handholding, Sweet Touches, Caresses, Sneaky Moves)
Mr. Dixon is not into PDA. He doesn’t like people having the upper hand on him with information that could be used against him. Plus he’s really really busy a lot of the time. It’s not until the pair are alone either in the darkness of the night or shrouded in the forest that he allows himself to become more vulnerable. Taking his partner’s hand when there are no Walkers about he rubs his thumb over the back of their hand as he whispers plans about the day to come.
In the dead of night he’ll pull his lover close letting them cuddle close to his chest. He’d run his fingers through their hair. It would be a peaceful silence with a few shared kisses simply listening to their shared breaths and heartbeats. As sleep over takes them both and the last thing either of them hear is “I love you” from either partner.
But Daryl isn’t all innocent and shy all the time. Sometimes when things are good he’ll come around and smirk at his partner as they work. Walking up as they bed over he pinches their ass and covers their mouth telling them to meet him in the house in ten minutes.
D - Dates (What kind of dates do they like to take their partners on Are they creative with their date ideas?)
In the post apocalypse there isn’t really time for what we would consider real dates. There is no movie theater. No restaurants. No Pools. No beach. No hotels. Daryl couldn’t do the things he really desperately craved to do with his partner and it killed him. This topic has sparked more fights in your relationship than either of you would ever care to admit. Daryl wanted to provide for you and take you out on real dates. You however saw the sweet scenic bike rides you both took as date enough. His partner saw scouting ahead on a peaceful day as a date. Or even just doing nothing within the walls talking about everything. Eventually you both agree to disagree.
E - Eat (Do they have similar tastes in food or do they share food at the dinner table? I. E. Swapping the tomatoes on the burger for the pickles on their partner's chicken sandwich)
There is no room to be picky after the turn. With good food so scarce if someone didn’t like dinner that night they just didn’t eat. But Daryl hated it when his partner didn’t eat. So he went out of his way to find food they liked when dinner was something he knew they wouldn’t like. He’d offer them the stuff they like off his plate and took the food they didn’t like. No problems or fuss. He loved you.
F - Fire (What drives them the most in the relationship?)
Seeing you survive. Daryl couldn’t live with himself if he ever lost you. And he knew that it was unrealistic to try and expect that his partner would live well past when he would live. That he would die long before his partner and be waiting wherever it was on the other side for them. But it made him so sick thinking about the opposite so he simply did his best to keep you safe.
G - Generosity (How do they show their partner they care?)
Daryl was extremely caring in his love. He may not always show it or even say it but he is always thinking about his partner’s wellbeing. He looks for safer paths to take when they scout together, ones they can’t be ambushed on or that are easier to walk on. He always checks you over for cuts and bruises when he sees you before hugging you too tight or kissing you. He is on high alert outside of the camp at all times ready to protect. He gives his food to you when you need it.
H - Hot Head (Are they quick to anger? Are they spiteful in a fight? Will they say things they don't mean just to piss their partner off? Or are they easy going?)
Oh sweet lord. Yes. This man is a hot head. He is like a volcano. Full of anger and negative emotions that when placed under pressure will make him explode and cover other in the anger and negativity. But understand that this is a product of a horrifically broken home. He tries like hell to keep from erupting all over you. But sometimes it just happens and he never means for it to get as out of hand as it gets.
Daryl gets mean when he’s pissed. He gets nasty and spiteful. He will pull up shit from past fights just to fuel the fire of the argument and keep it going until he feels like you’re just as pissed off at him as he is at himself.
Whatever you do… do not give this man alcohol and expect him to be ok. He is an angry drunk and has no self control. He will get into an argument sometime into the night and it will be more than either of you can handle.
I - Interest (What are some of the interests they may share?)
Before the turn you both enjoyed bike rides and the occasional night out.
But now that the turn happened, you both like the time you spend together hunting and scouting. You both love providing for your camp. And you both still love riding.
J- Jealousy (Are they the Jealous type? How would they act if they were?)
Sweet God yes he’s very jealous! He trusts Rick more than anyone in the group but he looses his mind when you walk into Rick’s house alone to babysit Judith alone to just let the ex-cop sleep. One time when you all first moved to Alexandria a guy outside the walls approached you, Daryl, and Aaron asking if you wanted to go with two real men for a night of “fun”, Daryl beat him into a bloody pulp for thinking about it.
K- Kids (Do they want kids?)
Yes. If the world had never changed. If the dead never walked. He would give you all the children in the world, even though the thought of being a dad scared him more than anything. But now. He worried about the life his children would live. He worried for their safety. He wanted them so much but to put them through hell just because of his selfishness… he didn’t know if it was right.
L - Likes (Favorite things about relationship and partner)
Daryl loved waking up next to his partner each morning. He loved looking into his partner’s eyes and knowing that silent communication was all they needed. He loved the feel of their hand on his telling him it was ok. He loved knowing that without gaining to look you always had his back and he had yours. He loved feeling safe and secure for the first time in his life and he hoped with all he had he gave them the same feeling.
M- Marriage (Are they interested in getting married at all?)
At one point before the turn he actually bought a ring for his partner. He wanted to marry them and do the whole family thing. But once the turn happened that all got shoved onto the back burner. And while you and Daryl never really “got married” you both consider yourselves one step above boyfriend and girlfriend in this new life. Whatever that means to you both and no one opposed it.
N- No (Pet Peeves in a relationship)
Daryl refuses to tolerate a partner who intentionally hurts someone he loves. Betrayal is something he’d been through a lot in his life and he can’t imagine if his partner ever betrayed him.
Letting Daryl protect you is crucial. He can’t stand to loose you and if your constantly throwing yourself into harms way even when he advised you not to it will spark arguments
He must truly and fully trust his partner in their entirety. He wants full honesty from them. If they lie once he considers it a complete breach of trust and it will take a long time to heal that.
O - Orange (What color reminds them of their partner?)
Blue - he sees his partner as the color blue. They are truthful, merciful, loving, tranquil. They remind him of the sky on a clear day. They are calming and serine and they always manage to make him smile even when he wants to scream. He thought of you in his darkest times and felt the most free from all his problems.
P - Proposal (How would they or how did they propose?)
If Daryl would have gotten the chance he would have gotten down on one knee in your favorite spot after a long bike ride feeling you pressed up against his back.
But now it was in the Prison that you two talking jokingly about marriage. What it must have been like to do such a thing and have children. Daryl pulls an old ring on a chain out from behind his shirt. It’s aged. A little tarnished. He tells you about his failed plan. Smiling he tells you that he kept the ring as a piece of you to hold close you his heart.
Q - Queen (King) (What traits makes them a KING or a QUEEN?)
He is the ultimate King! Daryl goes out of his way to make sure that his partner is well taken care of and happy.
God forbid the day that the two of you are ever separated either by accident like at the Prison or by force. He will put his body through the ultimate test and hell in order to get back to you. Everything that stands in his way are simply obstacles to overcome. Day and night he will search until he finds you and if someone has you... god rest their soul.
He is always willing to share. Food, heat, shelter, water, medicine... whatever you need in order to survive.
Daryl can communicate with his partner with just a look. He loves them whole heartedly. He can just feel when something is wrong. It's like a sixth sense. No words are ever needed to be said. However he is always willing to listen if you need to talk.
Family is direly important to him. If you ever were to start one with him he would become all the more protective.
R - Rain (What was the most romantic gesture they have ever done for their partner?)
He made you a necklace...
The day that a good friend of yours turned...you were heartbroken and distraught. You refused to leave your cot in the prison for a full day. You had seen it before. You had even seen other friends turn and it affected you but never like this. Daryl hated seeing you like this. So taking a walk and giving you space he started looking. Looking for things that reminded him of you... Of brighter days. It was then he realized... that was exactly what you needed.
And so he started to look for things to brighten you. To make you smile. Things that reminded you of your lost friend based entirely off of stories you told of them. He found a shiny stone deep in a river bed recounting the tale you told him of the day you and your friend went tadpole hunting when you were young, splashing each other with the mud. A blueish black feather laid perfectly on a rock and reminded him of the myths his mother used to say about the crows and ravens bringing peace to those who grieve. A discarded bear tooth reminded him of the first time you had introduced him to your friend, the three of you hunting into the evening only to find a hare and two squirls.
Tying his treasures onto a long piece of twine he fashioned a necklace and brought it home to you placing it around your neck and telling you it would all be alright.
S- Smooches (Who gave the first kiss? When do they kiss their partner? How often do they kiss their partner?)
Having met Daryl before the turn, you both had more than your fair share of kisses. But your first one... well Daryl claims it was an accident. A heat of the moment reaction of passion.
Merle had been hounding you all day. He had known you were dating Daryl but to him it was just a word until he saw the proof. You were outside with Daryl at the time. Watching him work on Merle's POS truck when Merle came home from work on his bike. The older Dixon immediately swooped in and tried to get fresh. Playing grab ass and trying to get you to go inside with him. Daryl flipped his shit. Throwing the tools to the ground Daryl flew into a rage, pushing Merle away from you and into the house. He was still pacing for 20 minutes before you were able to get him to look at you. Before you could say anything he grabbed you by the hips and pulled you close, gripping your hair and kissing you deeply, muttering that you were his and his alone and if any man touched you like that again he'd cut their hand off. Needless to say he didn't get done with Merle's truck...
Now that the world is upside down Daryl tries to be more purposeful with his kisses, he wants them to mean something if they're the last they are ever to share as a couple. It was hard for his partner to understand at first... but he explained that he would hate it if he kissed his partner simply to end a fight no other meaning behind it and something happened. He wanted passion and romance behind his every action while they had the time.
T - Travel (Do they like to travel with their partner? Where do they dream of traveling to?)
God... does Daryl want to travel with his partner. He often dreams of the days before the turn. Dreams of taking you to far away places. Safe places. But the world is no longer that place... and so he tries to stay realistic in his waking life. Safety means stability. If he can have a stable life with you then he can start a family... He simply wants a safe stable place to settle... but he knows that may not always be possible. And so he roams looking for the perfect place for you both to live out your days.
U- Universal (How Public are they with their affection? Are they very open with PDA? Do they brag about their partner?)
Daryl is incredibly reserved. He always has been. He doesn't like the attention that PDA brings. He would much rather recede to the privacy of the forest or a darkened room/hallway than to make his move in front of the others. If Daryl was ever to talk about his personal life it would be to Carol (for advice and advice only about his partner's wellbeing) or Rick (To ask for dating advice/ and maybe to brag)
V- Valentines (First holiday together. How did they prepare? How did they celebrate?)
While holidays no longer exist and have no meaning after the turn, he often thinks to the only holiday he ever got to spend with his partner, properly.
It was Christmas. A holiday he and Merle had long since forgotten. One they had abandoned long before either of them were out of primary school but still knowledgeable enough to decipher that Santa Claus was a classist jackass. You had insisted they each give it a shot. For you. No religion involved just free shit. Daryl was hesitant. He didn't want to be disappointed again. Merle however was defensive. He wanted nothing to do with the holiday and often ridiculed the entire idea of it in it's entirety. But... the two relented after hearing that you would be cooking for them all weekend long. Merle complained and bitched the entire time you decked the halls of their trailer. "This sparkle shit better come out of my God damned carpets! I don't need ta find it in June!" You couldn't find a tree at a price any of you could afford but Daryl cut the biggest limb off a nearby pine and hoped it would be good enough. You were able to make stocking for each of the boys and on christmas eve you stuffed them with gifts and laid their presents under the makeshift tree. In the morning... they both stared at you nervous and akward. Like they both wanted to move and tear into shit but were scared they'd get in trouble. So you sat them down and handed them gifts. It wasn't much. You were working with a waiter's salary... but it was more meaningful to either of them than you ever knew. When Merle growled, embarrassed he didn't get you anything you simply said that spending the day with them meant more to you than any gift and you thought... for a second, that you watched both men's hearts grow three sizes that night.
W- Wicked (What do they do that purposely pushes their partner's buttons?)
Daryl will pull shit up from the past and use it against his partner to start a fight. He does this the most when he's feeling shitty about himself or a situation he's in and can't fix. He wants his partner to be just as upset and angry at him as he is with himself.
He has a really... really bad drinking problem. He is a mean drunk. If he wants he will find alcohol and drink in front of his partner knowing they hate it when he acts vindictive and hateful.
He gives the best silent treatment in the entire apocalypse. He could exist completely silent for literal weeks. (please do not mistake his need for space with the silent treatment. He gets over stimulated a lot and needs space)
Straight up disappears for days without ever telling his partner where he's going or when he'll be back. This gets worse after the Sanctuary.
Calls them pet names they despise (this is normally in retaliation to pet names they give him)
X- Xylophone (What song fits the relationship?)
Y- Yearning (When do they miss their partner the most? What do they do to placate themselves in the mean time?)
Daryl misses his partner so much when he's out on a run that lasts longer than a day. He worries about them constantly. If he can't bring them then he tries to bring a part of them, something to remind him of them. A trinket he can worry until he can get home. But if he can't or it's an emergency and he didn't have time. He always has a matching tattoo on his arm that you both got on your one year to remind him to come home to you...
Z- Zipper (Do they let their partner pick their outfits?)
If you find clothes that fit him out on runs he'll look at them and choose to wear them or not. Sometimes you bring home baby clothes to pick on him when he's being a big baby bitch. Other times you bring him clothes you know he's never going to wear just to fuck with him. He never says it out loud but he thinks this is funny.

STOP THIS IS ADORABLE
Let Your Heart Be Light
Pairing: Daryl Dixon x Fem!Reader
Setting: Alexandria Era
Warnings: None
Summary: You want to make the holidays something special for Daryl. Throw in a little Christmas magic and it just might mean something more to you too.
*Click here to be added to taglists.
This run hadn’t been about gathering supplies or intel. This run had been about making a holiday for Judith. The adults understood that just being alive and together were gifts. But little Jude? Smart as she was— and she was smart —hadn’t yet grasped that concept.
Things had already been gathered for her by everyone else, but Daryl had never really celebrated as a kid. Never gave gifts or received them. Before Alexandria, there was never a reasonable sense of safety that allowed for celebration. This would be a first for the archer. When you asked what he had found or made for the little girl he so obviously adored, he had appeared gutted. Of course, you had offered to go with him and help him find something.
The sky was thick with purple clouds as you burrowed into Daryl’s back and tilted your face upward just enough to watch the puffs of lavender magic float carelessly across the limitless expanse. The wind was icy but the elements never seemed to bother the hunter. You, on the other hand, were freezing your proverbial balls off. Your heavy jacket, gloves, scarf, and toboggan hat did little against the onslaught. You couldn’t help but wonder how Daryl hadn’t turned into an ice archer. You also weren’t above pondering why the fuck he had insisted on taking the motorcycle!
When the bike rolled to a stop outside a little strip mall, you could hardly wait to jump off. You squealed about your ass being numb and zipped past him and up to the first door. Daryl started to intervene but swiftly shut his mouth when you acted accordingly, tapping the blade of your knife against the window to lure any walkers.
When none shuffled forward, you gave him a thumbs up. “You start on that side, I’ll go here. Look for coloring books, crayons, stuffed animals. Nothing with small pieces that she could choke on.” You advised, watching him nod blankly. You smiled at his adorable cluelessness and ducked inside, willingly leaving him on his own. Usually you would pester him to stay together but you had your own search to conduct. Judith wasn’t the only one getting a gift this year.
You did intend to help Daryl as you’d promised, but you had some selfish reasons for coming along as well. You hadn’t heard if anyone else had come up with something for the archer, but you sure as shit would. He was your best friend. Your person. This would be the start of happy memories for the season.
None of you could be sure when Christmas actually was but hell, it didn’t really matter at the end of the world. Decorations had been found here and there, enough to decorate Rick and Michonne’s house. You’d all gather there so it made the most sense.
The store you had chosen appeared to have once been a pawn shop. Toys were in abundance so you took a moment to grab a babydoll and a stuffed monkey before heading to the display cases. The glass had long ago been broken and weapons all swiped. That wasn’t what you were looking for anyway. You wanted something less…violence oriented. No jewelry either. He wasn’t the type. You would know the perfect gift when you saw it.
And you did.
Grabbing it up, you stuffed it and the toys into your rucksack and headed to the next mall space, hoping it held what you needed to go along with the first present. Considering how certain items were treated like gold in those times, you didn’t hold your breath.
You had to be sneaky or Daryl might catch on, considering the type of store. You watched for him while repeating the process to check for walkers. Met with silence, you ducked inside. Pickings were slim— almost nonexistent —just as you’d expected. You had just allowed yourself to be bummed when you spotted one peeking out from beneath the counter. After a short happy dance, you hid this one in your bag as well. You grabbed a few newspaper pages to use as wrapping paper and started to open the door when you saw the archer walk by and into the pawn shop you had just vacated.
Perfect!
Stepping outside, you moved off the walkway and waited for him. He emerged a moment later, looking a little concerned.
“Thought ya’d still be in there.” He huffed, holding out two coloring books— one of safari animals and the other, Dora the Explorer —and a box of crayons with two missing.
“Were you worried, mister Dixon?” You smiled sweetly while taking the items to place in your bag. “Hey!” You dissolved into giggles when he pulled the front of your toboggan hat down over your face. He was already walking back toward the back by the time you fixed it. “I found a couple of toys too!”
“Got wha’ we came fer.” He swung a leg over to straddle the bike and waited for you to climb on. “Le’s head back. Snow’s comin’.” You grumbled and secured your scarf around the majority of your face. “S’the matter? Don’ like snow?”
“I love snow. Just not on a motorcycle.” Taking your place behind him, you wrapped your arms around his middle and went ahead with burying your face in his back. You felt more than heard his chuckling.
Without a way to predict the weather, there was no way of knowing that scattered flurries would soon turn into a complete whiteout. Daryl had pushed the bike as far as he could before the snow on the ground became too dense. You hated watching him leave it behind, but if he was distraught, he didn’t show it.
You both had your packs, yours full of gifts and Daryl’s stuffed with a little food, a canteen, and scant medical supplies. You’d be okay for a day or two until the weather cleared. You had radioed home while the archer brought the fireplace to life. Your signal was choppy but the message was received.
A little while later, the snow was surging down outside, making it impossible to see even the trees that were littered around the small cabin the two of you had stumbled upon. Literally. You’d almost walked into the side of it with the limited visibility.
Your coats were hanging up near the fire to dry. You had a small meal of jerky and an apple. Now the two of you sat quietly, the silence not uncomfortable. You were bummed that you couldn’t make it back for Daryl to give Judith the gifts. More disappointed for him, really. This was supposed to give him good memories.
Your gaze left the winter wonderland on steroids to shift over where the archer was perched by the fire. He was holding the stuffed monkey while he stared into the flames. Standing from the chair by the frosty window, your bare feet hardly made a sound as you padded across the room to sit cross-legged by his knees.
“Don’t be sad.” You folded your hands on his thigh and rested your chin on them, looking up at him from under your lashes.
Those ice blue eyes slid over to you and held your gaze before he looked away with a dismissive pfft’, tossing the stuffed animal on top of his rucksack. “Ain’t sad.”
The smile you gave him was soft, sympathetic. “Yeah, you are. But you shouldn’t be. She’ll be just as excited tomorrow as she would have been today.” Your head tilted, smile broadening. “Judith doesn’t care what day you give her a gift. You’re Uncle Daryl. She’ll beam at you like you hung the moon no matter what.”
One corner of his mouth ticked upward. He hummed and ruffled your hair, the other side of his lips mirroring its counterpart. Sitting back, you swatted his hands away with an exaggerated series of waves.
“We can still make this special.” Teeth worried your bottom lip but you fought to push down the anxiety slithering around in your tummy. When the archer tilted his head, waiting for an explanation, you crawled across the floor and reached into your bag. The newspaper wrapping was sloppy with no tape or bows to make it nice but it was the end of the world. You worked with what you had. Shuffling back to him on your knees, you sat back on your heels and held out the black and white papered mess. “Here.”
His face was unreadable, that scowl firmly in place as he stared at your offering. You would have felt dejected had you not seen the myriad of emotions steadily streaming through those pretty blue eyes. After what felt like hours, Daryl cleared his throat and reached for the wadded mess.
“Ya didn’… uh…ya didn’ hafta do nothin’ like this.” It was easy to discern the slight tremor in his hands.
“Yeah, I did. I wanted to.” You wiggled back and forth, both eager and nervous for him to unwrap it. When he just held it, you stilled. “What’s wrong?”
“I, uh…” The archer carefully lowered the gift to his lap but kept his hands around it, his thumb rubbed back and forth across the newspaper. “Never really had stuff like this growin’ up…presents n’ shit.”
Rubbing your lips together, you placed a hand on his knee, just beside the gift. He didn’t look away from it. “Just open it when you’re ready. I’m in no hurry.” Keeping your hand where it was, you maneuvered into your previous position: cross-legged with your chin on the very edge of his leg.
He was committing the moment to memory. You could tell by the way he studied the object, tilting it back and forth just so. But this is what you wanted; to break through the past he had suffered with thoughts of a future full of new memories to make. And to share.
He cleared his throat again. It was then that you noticed the shine of moisture holding steady on his waterline. “I… got ya, uh… I got ya somethin’ too.” He balanced the gift on his lap with one hand and dug around in his pocket before finally pulling out a small, blue drawstring bag. So much hesitance; he started to hand it over before pulling it back. He did that three more times before he allowed you to take it.
Now, your eyes began to leak. “Oh, Daryl.” You pulled the little bag toward you and pressed it against your chest. Whatever was concealed inside was hard and twisted but you didn’t venture to guess. You wanted complete surprise.
His eyes flitted between your gift and his. Still, he made no move to open his own. The present you’d given him was quite a bit larger. Maybe he was worried that that somehow bothered you. When he finally looked up at you, your heart clenched. He was adorably lost.
“Open it?” You suggested gently, lowering your hands to your lap with the small bag visible in your cupped palms. He was chewing on the inside of his bottom lip for several seconds before he slowly began to unfold the paper. You watched with bated breath as the items were revealed, studying his demeanor as discreetly as possible. If he didn’t like it, you wanted to know for next year.
Next year. A bittersweet thought. How many of you would even still be there to see it? You minutely shook away the distressing notion and just in time, too.
The corners of his mouth slowly lifted into the smallest yet most genuine smile you’d ever seen him wear. A calloused finger traced over the image of a motorcycle on the shiny Zippo. There was a carton of cigarettes and a small container of lighter fluid as well but the lighter had his complete attention.
“Now look, mister. I don’t condone your habit but I figure we all need our guilty pleasures now more than—”
“Thank you.” So soft that you barely heard it.
You melted in an instant into a gentle smile that he didn’t see, hiding behind a fringe of dark hair. “You’re welcome.” You waited him out. He was having a hard time with the entire concept and you may have heard a quiet sniffle but no, you didn’t.
“Ya gon’,” he cleared his throat and sniffed, “ya gon’ open yers?” You looked down at the bag, seeing him wipe his face on the back of his hand from the corner of your eye. You’d never tell him, though. You’d let him keep that one.
You were careful with your expression, keeping the excited gleam in your eye as you pulled the top of the bag open. It could be an acorn and you’d adore it because it was Daryl who went through the trouble of finding such a pretty little bag for it. Just for you.
You dipped two fingers inside, curling them around cold metal, prodding your curiosity. What you began to pull out was a thin, braided chain. It was still a shiny silver. You weren’t even sure what it was made from and it didn’t matter. It would remain around your neck even if your skin turned green. Still, once the entire thing was revealed, it wasn’t the chain that held your focus.
Your inquisitive gaze lifted to find his cheeks a shade of pink and one hand rubbing at the back of his neck.
“S’a…well, s’a hex nut.” Your head tilted. “From my bike.”
You stared at him in complete awe, knowing that when he finally looked at you, he was going to panic but you’d settle him once you worked through your own emotions. You carefully placed the chain over the edge of your hand so the nut laid in your palm. It was small with small knicks and dark areas, indicating use. You were so enthralled with it that you didn’t feel the tear escaping down your cheek.
“Know s’stupid but—”
His arms shot out to the side when you collided with him, your arms tight around his shoulders and face against his neck. Once the initial surprise had worn off, he wrapped one arm around you and then the other, his cheek against the top of your head.
“Thank you.” You whispered. “This is the best gift anyone’s ever given me.” When he huffed out a laugh, you sat back and wiped at your face with the tips of your fingers, the necklace he’d made for you still dangling from your hand. “Don’t say a word. I’m not just blowing smoke up your ass. It’s really the most thoughtful gift I’ve ever been given.” Your hand traveled out to rest against his cheek. “And I love it. Will you put it on me?”
“Um, okay.”
You beamed at him and held out the chain, spinning around and gathering your hair out of the way. Daryl was hesitant, you could just picture him trying to work through how to get it around your neck without invading your space. You knew it was impossible but you’d let him figure that out on his own.
Finally you felt him reach over your right shoulder, then your left, to part the two ends and pull them back to fasten against the back of your neck. Your breath hitched when his fingertips lingered against your skin for a moment longer than necessary.
“There ya go.”
Your skin felt colder when he pulled away but you didn’t linger on it. You turned to face him, holding the piece out so you could look down at it with a brilliant smile.
“Thank you.” You said again, twisting the gift back and forth.
“Yer welcome.” He mumbled.
Shimmying closer, you laid your head against his leg and looked at the fire, fingertips still brushing against the cool metal hanging from your neck. Above you, he was flipping the lid of the Zippo open and closing it repeatedly, as if it was the first one he’d ever seen. You were admittedly surprised he hadn’t already lit up at least three cigarettes.
“You did replace the nut you took from the bike, right?” You erupted into giggles when he bounced his leg and jostled your head.
It was almost comical to you that Daryl was this tough badass but so shy when it came to even someone as close as you were to him. It was incredibly endearing. Tilting your head back, you smiled up at him. He responded by placing his hand over the entirety of your face, his expression remaining neutral. You still saw the twinkle in his eye when you freed yourself.
Then your smile disappeared, replaced with a sudden look of bewilderment. The archer noticed immediately, brow drawing in concern.
“Wha’?”
You weren’t looking at him though. You were looking past him, at the ceiling. Slowly you sat up straight, tilting your head while holding your gaze steady. Daryl finally followed your line of sight to the area above your heads.
There, hanging from the wooden rafters, was a branch of what appeared to be fresh mistletoe. A red bow was tied prettily around the stem.
“Is that—” You began.
“—mistletoe.” Daryl finished.
Both your heads lowered, your eyes meeting. You could tell from the way he looked at you that he wasn’t ignorant of the tradition. Your own cheeks had grown warm just as you watched the subtle flush settle over his.
You should have been questioning the presence of the plant. How it got there. Why it looked new in an otherwise desolate, dusty cabin.
But those inquiries paled in comparison to the way Daryl’s eyes flitted down to your lips and back up.
“Be a shame to go against tradition.” You reasoned.
“Yer the expert.” He gave a single-shouldered shrug.
With a soft breath past your lips, you sat up on your knees, inching a little closer. Daryl moved toward the edge of the chair, leaning down slightly. You were so close that you could feel his breath against your lips.
“Merry Christmas, Daryl.”
A beat.
“Merry Christmas, Y/N.”
When your lips met, nothing else mattered.
Not the snow that now fell in gentle flurries.
Not the motorcycle that now leaned against the wall just outside.
And certainly not the bare rafters above your heads where nothing was hanging.

This is amazing 🥹
Space (Daryl's POV) - D.D.
part one
pairing: daryl dixon x reader
summary: things aren't the same between you and daryl.
warning: still sad
a/n: i am planning on doing a part 2 but i needed to give you daryl's side first (also, I know this is in 3rd person, but it's giving a bit of insight on Daryl's thought process so I'm labeling it as his POV)
Daryl sat outside on the porch, staring into the sunset, his mind lost in a maze of thoughts and responsibilities. He pulls the cigarette snug between his fingers to his lips. As he took a drag, the smoke curled into the air, surrounding him before disappearing into nothing.
You were inside the house, with RJ and Judith, the sounds of laughter and the occasional clanging of pans echoed from inside the house. RJ and Judith were a constant reminder of the world they were trying to preserve, but the weight of responsibility had carved a gap between you and him.
Daryl knew things haven't been right between him and his lover. He's known for a long time now, but he doesn't know how to fix it. Daryl couldn't pinpoint the exact moment things took a turn, the exact moment he started to pull away from you. It just sort of happened. Things would be easier if he simply just stopped loving you, but that wasn't the case.
In reality, Daryl loved you so much that it hurt him. He loved you so much that he didn't know what to do with it, he'd never loved anyone like this before.
The absence of Rick and Michonne took a toll on Daryl. He's the one that took the biggest hit, for obvious reasons. Suddenly he had two kids, suddenly everyone was asking him the important questions. Suddenly he wasn't just a redneck with a crossbow, he was a leader- the leader. He could feel the weight of everyone's expectations, the burden of leadership now resting solely on his shoulders. He was a tracker, a survivor, but a leader – that was a role he never asked for, a role that felt like an ill-fitting mask.
The pressure was suffocating, and he couldn't shake the feeling that he was failing, not just as a leader but as a partner.
There were too many things that needed to be fixed, too many people to please, too many walkers to be killed. Daryl felt like everything he was doing just wasn't good enough.
He knew it wasn't fair. He knew the community deserved a good leader. A leader that knew what he was doing, someone that was a natural born leader, someone like Rick Grimes. Daryl knew he wasn't no Rick Grimes. Daryl knew it wasn't fair to the kids. They deserve to be raised and loved on by their parents.
Most importantly, he knew it wasn't fair to you. You, who had stood by his side through thick and thin, weathering the storms of this apocalyptic world together. You deserved more than a love burdened by the weight of his insecurities and doubts.
Even knowing that, Daryl couldn't bring himself to take action in his own home. So the gap between the two of you grew with every passing day.
The front door swings open, "Dinner's ready!" RJ sticks his head out of the doorway, sending Daryl a toothy smile.
Daryl grunts, "Be right there." RJ runs back inside, leaving the door open. With one more drag, he snuffed out the cigarette and heads inside.
Judith is setting out plates while you bring the food to the table. Your eyes meet his and it's almost instinct for you to immediately look elsewhere. Everyone takes their place around the table, Daryl taps the top of the kids heads as he passes. With a slight hesitation, Daryl places a small kiss to the top of your head before settling in his own seat.
"Thanks for cookin," Daryl mumbles to you. You're looking at him with slightly wide eyes before you nod at him with a small smile.
After dinner Daryl volunteered to clean up around the house, relieving you from your regular routine so you could relax a bit before bed. Admittedly, Daryl took his time, not exactly rushing to get everything in order.
Daryl locks all the doors and turns off all the lights before entering the bedroom. The bed was empty and the bathroom door was wide open. Daryl pauses in his place for a moment, debating whether or not he should go back downstairs and wait for another hour.
Daryl shakes his head, stepping towards the bathroom before he could psych himself out. You were laying in the bathtub with your eyes closed, completely relaxed in the warm water.
Your head turns at the sound of his footsteps and your eyes lazily open to see Daryl leaning against the bathroom doorway. He offers a a half smile, feeling a twinge of guilt for intruding on your relaxing time.
You close your eyes again, resting your head back on the rolled up towel. Daryl shifts towards the sink, starting his nighttime routine.
"Do you want to join me?" Your voice cuts through the silence. Daryl glances over his shoulder towards you, who still kept your eyes closed. Daryl stood up straight, clearing his throat slightly.
"Yuh want meh to?"
"Wouldn't ask if I didn't want you to, hotshot." The nickname that you coined him early in your friendship tugged at Daryl's heart. Without a second thought, Daryl rid himself of his clothes.
You sat up in the tub, allowing room for Daryl to slide in behind you. It was strange for the both of you, being so close, so intimate. You let yourself settle into his body, as stiff as you both might be in this moment.
You rested your head back onto his shoulder, soaking in this rare moment between the two of you.
"Y/N... We should t-"
You shake your head, quickly shushing him.
"We do." You agree with him. "But not right now. Just want to enjoy this."
Daryl hums lowly, before allowing his body to relax. With unsureness, his hands wrap around you, landing on your stomach and pulling you close to him.
This is the closest the two of you have been in months, yet it still felt like you were miles apart.

Best story ever.
How could you!?
Daryl tells you about Leah, now you don't know how to tell him about your surprise

"Hi D, I have your supplies here!" You say to your fiance, pulling him into a hug with a giddy smile. "Hmm" he replied back not really returning the hug. You pulled back with your brows slightly furrowed "Whats got your panties in a bunch?"
"Nothin' ". "Honey it's obvious somethings wrong, but I do have something for you". You reached into your bag and pulled out a box, but before you could say anything else he stopped you. "Y/N there's somethin' I've gotta tell yea' ". The look on his face made your heart beat faster. Anticipation was taking over your body as you were waiting for him to tell you what he needed to say.
"I met someone out' here".
"Oh... that's nice I'm glad that you're not out here all alone at least you'll have some company" you say relieved he didn't say he got bitten.
" Tha's not wha' I mean... y/n I'm sorry" . It took you a moment to comprehend what he meant, it finally clicked in your head what he meant, tears brimmed in your eyes as you looked at him in disbelief . Your heart felt like it was shattering into pieces, everything you did together, all the sweet talk about you being the only one for him was gone in the wind like dust, it meant nothing to him and that made your blood boil.
You immediately got up to leave but he followed quickly grabbing you by the waist. You turned around and pushed his chest back hard "How could you!?" Streams of tears started falling down your face waiting for him to answer. You pushed him again "HUH! Was I not good enough, why Daryl, why did you do this!?"
"Yea' are good enough, I jus' wasn't thinkin' "
"Oh please if i was good enough for you, you wouldn't have went out there seeking warmth from another woman!, matter of fact"
"Did you like it?
Was it good?
Was it worth it?
Tell me Dixon was it?" You asked getting close to his face with bitterness laced in your voice. He couldn't even meet your eyes as you scoffed "unbelievable you can't even say anything for yourself" "No it wasn't and I'm sorry"
"Sorry? That's all you have to say for yourself, no I'm sorry that I was an asshole and banged another chick for the fun of it even though I have someone back at home?" He didn't say anything.
You reached down and picked up everything you brought for him and threw it right at him earning an "oof" in return. "This is the last time I'm coming out here, someone else can bring this shit to you if you want to talk about this whole fucked up situation you know where to find me".
As soon as you turned around you let the tears you were holding back fall down your face. But before you left you realized there was something you didn't know, the chicks name. "Whats her name?"
"Leah" you nodded , you reached into your bag and pulled out the box "before I forget" you threw the box over and turned back around walking back to Alexandria not caring about the protests behind you.
