Here is some angst...
So I've been in a relationship for 8 yrs. I love my boyfriend. But I am also in deep like with a good friend. The bonus here is my good friend is gay which doesn't stop the very real yearning.
Why brain, why you gotta be like this?

Guys. Guys. G-U-Y-S.
I'm in way too many FB dog groups and the fucking NONSENSE I see has me just busting to vent today. Like esp what I see in the cane corso breed groups.
First off... all talking about dominance theory and how people need to be alpha while talking about resource guarding.
Second off... just telling people to slap a prong on a dog whether or not it walks nicely on a leash. My issue here is training tools need to be used APPROPRIATELY. And they never talk about that piece of it!

We visited the fenced 15 acre field again today and when I recalled the Big Terrible came galloping back, ever so pleased, because she managed to find an old deer skull!
What a happy girl ❤

I'm trying to make it a thing where I do a decompression walk with Lana a few times a week vs just once or twice a week. I've opted for the local park because 1. it's safe, 2. it's close by.
I take her on her longline and let her roam and try to make it as low pressure as possible and give her as much freedom as I can. I bring treats to reinforce all good choices, such as checking in and recalls and just kind of for anything that comes up.
I'm also hoping it'll help her get used to dogs and people - like I would like both things to become non-events. Dogs tend to immediately make her over aroused and people tend to make her worried. I'm hoping the more she sees them she comes to the realization that "ok, boring."

A breed’s history doesn’t start after standardization. When referring to historical use, that means what the breed’s forerunners did if it is not still the same. The jobs of the aboriginal population of dogs that founded the modern breed aren’t suddenly irrelevant or incorrect if the standardized breed’s main use ends up being different. It’s still the historical use.

So I made a comment that it's kind of sad that the Greyhound racing industry is being dismantled over the presumption that it's wholly terrible vs actually trying to make things safer for working/racing animals. As you may expect, a lot of people jumped on me for it.
But what's interesting (sad? annoying? disappointing?) to me is how few people actually 1. Comprehended what I said, 2. Understand dogs.
Like I really wonder if these people see dogs as the wonderful and varied animals with inherent drives and skills that they are. They think the breed won't change or be impacted by this. They think people are forcing greyhounds to race. They really don't understand the inherent instincts these dogs have.
