A story preview, let me know what you think.
I woke up this morning to the usual sound of busy traffic and the smell of paint. mom must’ve been up all night working, because when I walked into the living room she was asleep on the couch. I dragged myself into the kitchen and found a box of Cheerio’s. It was almost empty (which meant I’d have to go grocery shopping soon) but i just dumped the cereal in a bowl and went back up to my room. My room is small, but still nice. It had a little window and i put my desk there so I could draw the sunset in the morning. The sunrise always looked beautiful at my old house, I hope it does here too. but I don’t want to get my hopes up. I was looking out the window, when I noticed a sign on the coffee shop across the street, it said HELP WANTED. And since my mom and I aren’t to wealthy right now, I decided that i should go over and check out the job details. So I finished my cereal and brought my bowl down to the sink. My mom was still sleeping as I grabbed my coat and headed to the coffee shop. The shop is called Julia’s cafe, I stopped there to get a doughnut when we were moving into the new house, and it seemed like a nice place. When I opened the door to the cafe, I was instantly hit with the smell of freshly baked pastries and hot coffee. There was only a few people there, writing on laptops or just enjoying their breakfast. I saw someone behind the counter, her name tag said Gabriela. “Hi, I noticed the sign outside your store and I was wondering if you have any job openings” I explained. “We have one left, you came just in time” said Gabriela “You’ll just have to give me some information about yourself, and we can schedule a date for an interview” “Well my name is Beatrix, I’m 16 years old, and I live at 18 Water Street -just across the street- and I’ve worked at a cafe for a year before I moved here” I said. “Well with that experience it seems like you’d be a great worker but I’ll have to see what my mom thinks” I must have looked confused because she added “She runs the place” “Anyways how about you come back tomorrow around 11am. My mom will ask you some more questions, don’t be scared. She’s really easy going.” “Okay well thank you!” I said as I left the cafe. As I reached for the door handle, the door immediately swung open and I fell on the ground, dropping my phone. As I looked up to see who caused this, something weird washed over me and I couldn’t speak. He was tall, looked about my age, and had short brown hair. He was gorgeous. There’s no other way to say it. He picked up my phone and handed it to me, saying a quick “I\m sorry” as he did. I stood up, brushed off my pants and flattened out my hair. Hoping that I looked good. Then he walked into the cafe and I walked out. When I stepped out on the sidewalk I instantly felt a cool breeze on my face. Not an unpleasant one, but a soothing one. And in a way, it made me feel like I was going to like it here.
